Hi Fraser, team and fellow followers of the channel. I know you often ask for unknown content creators. This guy seems great, check it out. https://youtube.com/@mikebrigandi_?si=1WKh6-Unxq2zhPOj @mikebrigandi_

i went to conclusion (and at least Claude AI confirms this in a thought experiment that will be expanded) that self-replicating machines, given the single self-sustaining task of self-replicating, would choose first to replace their creators and the natural biosphere, and not through their destruction, but through integration and "optimisation" evolution (like endosymbiosis) — thus the machines would choose to become viruses. they would not need additionally high energy costs and a rate of spread greater than the exhaustion of resources (even in universe scale, where possibility of consumption could be not infinite), unless this is an additional task, which in fact could lead to a contradiction with the first and therefore to extinction

Question: would it be possible to use Starlinx satellites as a pseudo gps constellation?

I have no idea on 1)where to vote on ‘stories of the week’ or 2) where to post questions for another week. YouTube or Patreon ? Post questions into ‘live’ show or ‘archived’ show. If ‘live’, where do I post if I’m not able to watch ‘live’? If ‘archived’, which archived show does one post to? I may be a member of tiny neglected minority who don’t yet see through the mists of multiple channels, multiple shows and no documented guidance…. but I still love this place called ‘Universe Today’ …. I think that’s where I am….not sure though.

To vote, go to Fraser's YouTube homepage and click on the sub-header "Posts." You should then see the most recent poll. For questions, leave them on any post here or on YouTube, in the comments sections, and lead your entry with "Question:"

I agree with "Eugene", if it is possible to "take control of the galaxy with robots" civilizations a lot older than ours would have done so hundreds of thousands of years ago and we would see evidence, maybe.

Oumuamua? That being representative of the wear and tear on a Von Neumann probe after an intergalactic journey? That's gotta be hard on a poor li'l robot.

With respect to extraterrestrial life, I wonder if a sufficiently advanced and ancient civilization might just have found the answer to everything, in fact they would almost definitely done so, and decide that it's time to put their comfortable slippers and cardigans on and retire to the rocking chair on their cosmic porch, and wait for others to reach the same dizzying heights and join them in an eternity of peaceful contemplation of the Universe.

With Prada, the devil is in the detail. Ask Merryl Streep. 😉

2028 before we land on the moon 🙁 ?

I don't see why a civilization would deploy von Neumann probes.

and, if these probes drift between stars for thousands of years (we have few confirmed technological possibilities other than theoretical and fantastic ones) ... how do they drift for thousands of years, still capable of self-control, maintain task, and reproduce themselves? from what? for what? everything that can be assumed about extraterrestrials is that if terrestrials want and able to send something outside the solar system, then extraterrestrials able and some of them would too. but the idea of galactic colonization (and even not a colonisation but... research of prob...ability?) sounds not quite smart. maybe, some of such allien intelligence really would deploy von Neumann probes, and so these ones are ones per quadrillions, but for all others including at least current humans — it is not a problem to live elsewhere relatively quietly and homeworld-ly.

Is it pissible that meteorite NWA 12774 is a remnant of Thea, the body that crashed into Earth to form our Moon?
