What could Starship launch with its 9 meter faring? How can we possibly be ready for Mars? What happens with information in a black hole? And in Q&A+, when can we be confident that Planet 9 doesn't exist?

  • 00:00 Intro

  • 00:24 [@EdSceptic-y2e] Biosphere 2 didn't work on our hospitable planet so how are they really gonna do it on the utterly inhospitable moon or Mars?

  • 06:38 [@brettostrander1031] What payloads will Starship be able to launch?

  • 09:42 [@doogle4144] Nancy Grace Roman being on schedule

  • 11:57 [@madmillion91920110] If Hawking radiation evaporates black holes, where does the information go?

  • 13:51 [@jonnywalker-74] When will we be able safely say that planet 9 doesn't exist if we don't find it?

  • 16:13 I need your suggestions

Rank breakfast cereals. Also space stuff

Idea for ranking show: hypotheses/theories of what came before the big expansion (big bang- dumb name) of our current universe? God did it - F rank…

The common assumption is that there is a singularity inside a black hole's event horizon, and nothing else... but is that so? Orbital velocity is less than escape velocity, so why not have particles, photons and the associated information still buzzing around just INSIDE the event horizon? And when particle decay occurs resulting in Hawking radiation, the "information" remains existing on the inside of the black hole? Just because we can't see it doesn't mean it ain't there... (yeah yeah yeah physicists actually thought about that about two billion years ago, but i want to feel smart) As for suggestions. Tier-rank official statements following space mission failures (but leave out fatals out of respect). Best for accuracy, transparency, and entertainment. Get some actual rocket scientists and Scott Manley in on it...

Ooo! Regarding the banter back-and-forth with a couple of guests! I’m not sure what the topic could be but I would love for you to have @JPMajor as a guest speaker because he knows so much about space and the universe! He’s my favorite space blogger that I follow. He’s even been on space tv shows! We’re not mutuals or anything and he probably doesn’t know I exist but I find him so inspiring! He’s great at debunking conspiracies as well!

Hi Fraser, How long much will the Curiosity rover last? Curiosity has driven 25 kilometers and the wheels are falling apart. With NASA always over engineering things, how is this happening? Thanks. JD

Why does information in a black have to be conserved? Is the information of a log conserved when it's consumed in a fire?

C
Cyrille Lewandowski · June 3, 2026

Theoritacally yes. When a log burns, you could in theory reconsttute the whole log as it was with all the products of the combustion, like a giant jigsaw puzzle. You'd have to know the pieces and their proprities, but no information was destroyed, it's all there. In real life it is not possible, but only because of the limitations of our brains and of the tools we have. But no information is lost. Actually, no information can be lost. Physics as we know it forbids it. For the black hole, information comes in and hawking radiations, without informations, comes out : it is not only practically impossible to put the jigsaw back, it is theoretically impossible. Hence the paradox.
