[Space Bites+] 3I/ATLAS Closest Approach // Rock Giants // New NASA Administrator
3I/ATLAS makes its closest approach to Earth, a new independent way to measure the Hubble constant, are Uranus and Neptune actually rock giants? Jared Isaacman is the new NASA administrator. And in Space Bites+, astronomers search for the black hole in the Omega Centauri cluster.

Passing all those planets and the sun, did 3Iatlas gain speed versus when it arrived in our solar system?
Hi Frasier. I’ve been getting all your videos from Patreon through email. I haven’t missed any of them. I’ve not watched one single of your videos on YouTube since I subscribed. YouTube is absolutely horrible.
Hi Fraser, question for your question show. You often talk about how if there was life or intelligent life in the universe then we should have seen von Neumann probes everywhere. With von Neumann probes I can’t understand the benefit of “self replicating”. To make something as simple as a pencil for example requires trees, chainsaws, rubber plants, mining of graphite and metal, building of factories which needs steel concrete etc. Surely it’s easier and quicker to build thousands of probes on your home planet and just send them off into space? Thanks and I really enjoy the show
Many thanks for sending such a lovely email after joining! There’s not a lot to tell you about how I came to join. I had a Patreon subscription to someone who sadly died in a car accident and was looking for another creator to support. I’m interested in space and when I did a search, I got a selection of creators, one of which was you. After listening to a Q & A session and a couple of news reports, I thought this would be an enjoyable, stimulating and affordable channel to join. It wasn’t expensive, which came into it as I accidentally subscribed to someone for a year as well as Astrum, which I follow on YouTube. Being a premium member there, ad free and “jump ahead” (to avoid creator sponsor ads) didn’t mean much, it was simply how interesting your content was. I ended up with far too many subscriptions and some that sounded interesting but weren’t what I thought they were. I kept relevant creators and subs that were either free or cheap to begin with plus channels I knew from YT. So here I am 😊.
Question for the next session: what if we use interstellar visitors as a Trojan Horse into the rest of the cosmos? Rather than intercept them, we could land our spacecraft on them and be one-way transported across the universe at great speeds while transmitting information back to mother-earth.
Hey Fraser, here's a question for your next Q&A show, so I hope you read this. QUESTION: If some creep decided to hijack your likeness and voice for the purpose of creating an AI "deep fake," would you have any legal recourse?
You would need to find the “creep” first of course. Then you’d have to say what harm you had suffered as a result. You wouldn’t find it worthwhile to sue if no harm had been done. You could prosecute if the impersonation was breaking the law (or rather the CPS could decide to prosecute). I don’t think it is against the law though.
I'm amazed that the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope hasn't been renamed the Trump Space Telescope yet. Perhaps that will be one of the first directions Jared gets.
I’ll add a like which might help you as well 😊. Err…. help your question I mean. If lots of people want it read out, then it might be.
Ah, Anton, loved the tiny joke of turning the vid upside down when Fraser talked about being to Australia 🤭❤️ My YouTube shows me most of your videos! Usually as soon as you publish. I trained my algorithm to choose you 🤷♀️ but I usually listen to Spotify's editions, on my way to/from work :) out on Spotify I trained myself to go check "what's new" tab and bam, I can bask in the glory of science 💪
YouTube subscription for me
i use subscription, also get the email notification when it is published here. i do sometimes go to the algo to find new content, although i am very critical of what i click on, and very quick to stop watching when i can see it is not good content, or will toxicify my algo. its a personal responsibility adjustment, which i don't mind making in order to find new content i am not aware of. found a couple good creators recently doing it this way, just being mindful and applying critical thinking skills. thanks for the solid, reliable content and evolution in style, this is what i seek. great work folks!
I use a Brave Internet Explorer which automatically blocks adverts on Youtube and trackers etc,
I agree 100% with Fraser's recommendation to bookmark your YouTube subscription page. For me it's https://www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions, and it should be the same for you. I've been doing this for several years and I only see videos from creators I've subscribed to, like "Fraser Cain" or "Astronomy Cast" or "Dr. Becky" or "Seti", latest on top. No AI slop! It's easy to add new ones, just click on Subscribe.
Thank you!
Do all telescopes have a fixed focal length? Are the images of the exoplanet around a binary star heavily cropped?
Such a great thumbnail :) Such a clickable title while being technically true I love it
I did my best :)
With a title like that I was hoping for more of a shocked expression as he pointed at the little green monster! Maybe he should just lean into 3I/Atlas outrageousness?
That would only be possible if we did those faces separately. But Fraser refuses to do that so I have to pull "the faces" as screenshots from videos :)
