[Space Bites+] 3I/ATLAS Turns BLUE // Crew Stranded in Space // Isaacman Is Back
Comet 3I/ATLAS brightens and shifts into the blue, China releases its images of 3I/ATLAS, space debris delays a Chinese return flight from the Chinese Space Station, Jared Isaacman gets another shot at being NASA’s administrator. And in Space Bites+, how could we find Von Neumann probes in the Solar System right now?

I witnessed 31/Atlas wen it spun past earth, got some good photos as well.
Hey Fraser, perhaps we're not seeing von Neumann probes because the alien civilisations are stuck with the same wait equation we apply to interstellar travel. One could develop and launch a fleet now, but if waiting another 5000 years would result in faster exploration overall then they'd wait. And perhaps forget about the project altogether..
Sorry, this is NOT a 3I/ATLAS question. During a classical nova, why doesn't the ejected atmosphere affect the companion star? Is the runaway fusion reaction that expels the hydrogen atmosphere not intense enough? Is the hydrogen that isn't part of the fusion too diffuse to impact the companion star? Also, I propose changing the term "stellar novae' to 'stellar burps' to help engage the younger, future scientists.
I have a technical question about Patreon comments. Is there a way to create paragraph breaks? I am used to hitting the enter key twice for that in word processors and other commenting platforms, but, of course, hitting enter just posts the comment. I keep forgetting that and have to go and edit the premature posting. Is there a way? Or is not allowing paragraph breaks meant to persuade people to be pithy in their prose?
On Windows at least, and not just in Patreon, use shift-enter, like this shift-enter Paragraph shift-enter shift-enter Paragraph
Fraser, I saw a story this morning (11/8) in the NY Post that claimed that in new images taken by the R. Naves Observatory in Spain on Nov. 5, 3I/ATLAS appears to have no cometary tail and that "would eliminate the conventional explanation for the surprising 'non-gravitational acceleration' it exhibited last week." The story goes on to quote Avi Loeb, who, believe it or not, claims that the lack of a tail is yet more evidence that 3I/Atlas is an alien probe. (If it turns out Loeb is right about that, I am going to need to apologize for snarky sarcasm.) The NY Post is a tabloid, so I hardly consider it an authority on astronomical objects. You, on the other hand, I do consider an authority, or at least a clearinghouse of information from authorities. This video shows images that were taken of the 3I/Atlas tale. Is there any truth to the Post story? If so, did the story only break after this video was published? Thanks in advance for explaining.
Michael. The tail of a Comet is comprised of debris loosened from the comet by the bombardment of the sun's radiation. The tail at this time will be directed away from the sun where we on Earth cannot see it.
TV in I'm
I think he means rrrriiiigggghhhhttttt….
Thank you sir!
And how is Avi Loeb ‘right’
It was a joke. :-D
I'm sure Fraser is embarrassed now, since Avi Loeb is right and he was wrong! /sarcasm
I can't wait to be wrong.
Thanks
