Wow, Abby Lowe is a big one. Please if you are actually that interested, read the papers, the intermission and I don’t mean crap you see on the Internet and if you’re gonna look at crap on the Internet, three rule, and at least two of them have to be legitimate and one of them hast to be Fraser. Mic drop

I would love for it to be that this is an alien alien, but at the end of the day we would have found so many other logistic scientific commonsense things that would allow us to figure that out but fingers crossed lol

How do I get a job with SETI? Do I need to fight for government contracts like many other scientists? Or can I just be hired to assist/work the signals like more of a regular job?

With how underfunded SETI is, you'd almost certainly have to be "hired" as an unpaid volunteer for several years before any paying job would come about. Many of the actual scientists who do SETI only do it on the side, unpaid, because they want to do it.

I love this style of video and would love to see more!

Great overview with published papers behind each discussion point. Thanks so much for this. My favorite "bit" is "Where is the tail?" with a cameo role from Eeyore and the Owl....

The object did not “choose” its path. This implies intent. The objects path is surely random

Of course. :-) I was being poetic.

Great info Fraser. Did not know: Flying within 5° of ecliptic plane, Outgassing in a forward direction initially which would make it appear it has its "headlights on" (read that from Avi), and its really big. I still hope that Juno could go look at it but Juno has no big telescope onboard. But it would give Juno something big to do before they crash Juno. And the Juice mission looking at it, I did not know that at all. Juice should have some great cameras. That will be cool. Keep up the updates, this is fascinating.

Great post Fraser. I think there is a history going back at least to the late 19th Century where invasion literature made an entry on the public back then. HG Wells the War of the Worlds has had impact on the public several times and I think there is a notion of 1. wanting to find Alien life and 2. this notion that aliens will be unfriendly and 3. we love being scared of the unknown instead of being curious and being critical in learning all we an of these objects. In terms of 3iAtlas I have never believed it was an alien ship. I do believe it is alien to our solar system and I think that is a message that we can take away. It comes from outside the solar system and thus is alien to our system. That is exciting and provides us for further opportunities to learn and grow IF we choose to be curious and think critcailly about both 3iAtlas and our universe.

I've become a member today, Fraser. As an astronomy and astrophysics enthusiast, I care deeply about excellent channels like yours, Cool Worlds, Anton Petrov, Event Horizon, SEA, Astrum, PBS Space Time etc. The AI slob needs to be counteracted, so I'm gonna support you. Avi Loeb likes to poke. It's stirs the debate, unfortunately it's the algorithm and unscientific moneymaking grabbers that produce and prioritize the garbage content.

John Sullivan · October 11, 2025

I wish Avi Loeb would keep his comments to, "Here's something weird about omuamua, atlas, etc. And who knows! Here's a bit of fun speculation about it being artificial" But in moments he gets way too excited and says much more

S
SaxSQL · October 11, 2025

But that's exactly what he's saying. He clearly states that there is a minor possibility. He even adds in a probability of 30 percent.

Thanks for bringing this all down to earth. I really do not know what to believe anymore, mostly because of AI generated videos. Sad times we are in.

UT bringing space down to earth for everyday people without accidentally getting sucked into the world of extreme political ideology and having to dance around certain topics (I love Tim, too, btw. He's just gotten himself into a weird position.)
