Re: 3I/Atlas slop "Social Media - the great dumbing down that both Sagan and Asimov warned us about. "
Re AI Slop (and Internet Alarmism generally): At the moment the most effective attention-grabbing model seems to be to cry "Wolf!" But, like the Boy Who Cried Wolf, (hopefully) eventually that will be ignored and we'll look for more reliable, genuinely informative sources. Of course the downside of this calm and reasonable approach is that an actual wolf did show up and no-one was paying any attention any more...
Does it really matter if China beats USA to the moon. As someone from England, I don't think I mind either to be honest
To be honest I don't think it matters. The USA got their first; we'll always have THOSE bragging rights. If China is determined to be there next, more power to them. As for Mars, the only thing to be gained, once again is bragging rights. As Fraser has explained, actually LIVING on Mars is going to be tremendously difficult. Without some new, utterly revolutionary way of getting around the Solar System faster, it will be hundreds of years before we can really call ourselves a truly spacefaring civilization.
The rot set in with the first interstellar object and when that clot Ave Loeb declared it to be an alien spaceship. I had the misfortune to listen to Matt Kaplan interview him on Planetary Radio. I felt really embarrassed for Matt having to listen to such utter drivel.
Man, your recommendation to search YT in a private window for "3I/ATLAS" was ... idk, "depressing" I guess. It is shocking how effective the all mighty algorithm is at separating viewers into completely different "filter-bubbles".
Are there any images or observations of a star igniting for the first time?
Got a question, revenue wise is it better for you we watch on Patreon or on YouTube?
I will gladly delete this if Fraser answers you directly later. AFAIK, Patreon does not pay for views. Only Patrons who contribute provide income from this platform. The reason Fraser directs viewers here (even free) is to better serve the viewing public w/o them having ads. And maybe later, when they are able, they can support directly as new Patrons.
