[Q&A+] My Problem with YouTube, Inter-Species Communication, Earth to Jupiter | Q&A 356

Could we turn Earth into Jupiter by just adding more atmosphere? Can we train to communicate with aliens by talking to animals? How's YouTube destroying itself and it's getting really dangerous? And in Q&A+ will Vera Rubin find an asteroid on a collision course with Earth?

Fraiser, the reason why YouTube are pushing for more AI videos is because they announced that they won’t be monetizing them. To be specific they will not monetize videos fully made with AI which don’t have any original content. Here is the crazy part - when I land on a AI video I still get commercials as am not a YouTube premium subscriber. So what this means? YouTube is making money on those videos, but not paying the creators, obviously because the claim is the creators didn’t create much. So YouTube is doubling down to showing us the AI slob videos because they make more money that way.

I asked a couple of questions in a comment to last week's Question Show. Am I correct that you will answer those questions in the upcoming Patrons' Question Show? I do not have to ask those questions again while the video is being recorded, right? Thanks.

I’ve watched you for nearly a decade on YouTube and completely agree with your take on AI. YouTube may have given you the audience you deserved but I subscribed here today to reinforce that your viewers are with you no matter what YouTube does (or doesn’t do) about AI. Thanks for the years of work I’ve been enjoying, you’ll never know how much it’s meant to me.

Have you considered Nebula or CuriosityStream or similar creator-owned platforms?

YES!: Nebula!

Sorry that you and other hard-working creators are the victim of idiotic algorithms. It will eventually self-destruct, the same way that search self-destructed with SEO and AI slop.

Once upon a time Spam was just chopped pork with ham. It came in rectangular tins that were sometimes dangerous to open due to sharp edges! Ah days of innocence now gone.

So if YouTube is so awful, why is it in the YouTube comments that you look for new questions to answer?

D
David L · September 23, 2025

Just because it’s becoming awful doesn’t mean it isn’t still the place where most of his viewership is. Why would he not use his most viewed platform to pull questions from? Seems pretty straightforward to me.
