[Interview+] Fighting Moon and Mars Dust with An Electric Shield
Dust is a big problem for Moon and Mars. It sticks to everything, breaks things, covers solar panels. So, how do you solve this problem? One possible solution is an electric shield that uses charged surfaces to repel the dust.

Ok, lets replace "Why don't they just..." with "What happened when they tried..." that is the question we want answered anyway!
I hate sand, etc
Thanks I enjoyed & learned a lot.
Amazing young man. Luca, and young people like him, give me so much hope for the world and man’s advancement of peaceful technology. Thanks UT for getting these interviews with those doing the cutting edge work!! 👏👏
Very interesting. Be nice to have a follow-up on the biological effects of the dust and methods to ameliorate them.
I think we are describing a linear motor for dust!
Can you make a smal vacumcleaner but then the other way around, so blow it of!! From the panels!!!
"Why don't they..." Valid. Actually asking about engineering. What am I missing here... "Why don't they JUST..." Assumption: what are THEY missing here. OK, engineering first principles might be good to brush up on, and a few assumptions re-examined.
There are animals which live in extremely dusty environments and manage to shed the dust due to the specific properties of their fur. Might this be a possible solution to mitigate the problem at least for the persons' suits.
As Luca Scifoni said the problem would be the flexing of the interlaced electorde matrix and the voltage required to make it work, he suggested that it is more practical to look at static surfaces that humans don’t interact with.
