[Space Bites+] New Planet at Alpha Centauri // Webb Ultra Deep Field // Six Mars Helicopters

Coincidental to listening to this episode of Space Bites, I’m rereading the “When Worlds Collide” and “After Worlds Collide” series. Like your suggestion of exoplanets, even rogue ones, having habitable moons, as imagined in Avatar, these books describe a rogue gas giant with a habitable moon plowing into the solar system. The gas giant takes out the earth and a band of people escape with an ‘atomic’ rocket and land on the habitable moon. The interesting thing about this series is that it was written in serial form in 1932 and published in book form in the 1933, 1934. I first read them in the 1970’s. The writing style reminds me of H. G. Wells and they’re full of amazing new technology such as radio. There was also a movie made in 1951, but I’ve never seen it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_Worlds_Collide

I have a Question regarding the Deep Field redshift I never really understood. If the Milky Way galaxy travels through space with an insane speed of 1.3 million miles per hour, I would assume that every galaxy has a speed of its own. But how does this effect the redshift if one travels in our line of sight relatively towards us or even faster away from us compared to the expansion speed? Wouldn't this affect our distance calculations?

Question : With all the Cosmic and Sun rays and particules being redirected at the poles, isn't it dangerous to stay at or near the poles? Wouldn't we be more irradiated than elsewhere on the Earth?
