[Q&A+] Best Possible Space Mission, Sea Launches, Sun's Siblings | Q&A 337

What would be the best possible space mission if budget restrictions didn't exist? Why don't we launch all rockets from ships in the sea? Where are the stars that formed with our Sun? And in Q&A+ where is the center of the Universe?

About the center of the universe : even if the universe is not infinite, what you said is still valid but with a twist : the surface of a sphere (or an hypersphere) is finite but has no center. Consider the Earth : it is a finite sphere and yet there is no centre of this sphere on the surface of the sphere (expect Salvator Dali said it was the train station in the French city of Perpignan).

That is terrible news about Dr. Becky. I wish her a fast and complete recovery. As far as medical expenses, shouldn't she be able to get all her medical expenses paid for by the U.K. NHS? It is my understanding that is the major benefit of that kind of healthcare.

Scott Manley did this great video summarizing different orbit types… https://youtu.be/PZAkiXNJIqc (sorry for the YT ads, I couldn’t find it on Odysee where his videos are ad-free)

Half truth on the Sea Launches, Sea Launch was a conglomerate of Norwegian, Ukrainian , Russian and USA interest, GEO political tension, and de-allocation of funds were the main reasons for failure. Was a political mess to say at least. Was not SPACEX Hegemony as is put here that put SEA-LAUNCH out of business.

Another reason mid-ocean launches have trouble competing, is that fuel is the cheap part of launching. The vehicle, launch facilities and infrastructure, and other costs far outweigh the cost of propellant. The delta-V saved seems to be gobbled up by the costs of launching from a more challenging location. Great show, as usual, Fraser. Thank you for sharing your space addiction with us. We're hooked too...happily. I've been obsessed with anything space since before Alan Shepard's Mercury flight. The flow of information has transformed from a trickle to a torrent. It's' like trying to drink Niagara Falls. You are one of a few I turn to for my space geek information. Among them are Tim Dodd, NSF, Andre Petrov, Matt Dowd, and few others. It seem so me that this collection of content creators has been core to the change I've seen in how science and technology information has become more accessible. It's raining pie, folks. Grab buckets.
