[Q&A+] Confidence in SpaceX, New Pale Blue Dot, A Day on Gas Giants | Q&A 332
Did the recent streak of Starship failures change my confidence is SpaceX's future success? How can we measure the rotation of gas giant planets? Is there a chance Voyagers can make another Pale Blue Dot image? And in our Q&A+ extended version, do we have a moral obligation to spread life in the Universe?

Our moral duty to spread life into the universe. I think the virus doesn't think about its moral duty when it infects a cell. I think the cosmos doesn't care one way or the other. Infecting the universe with life or not doesn't change a thing to the heat death in the end. My thinking is whatever. Would I like personnally to infect the universe? Yes of course! But it still doesn't matter in the end.
I read Project Hail Mary when it came out. What a fun read. Little Jimmy couldn’t put it down.
They may want to eat us? Yikes!
There is a very specific point in the Project Hail Mary trailer that if they just stopped, right there and did nothing else, people who have not read the book but are seeing the movie would have had excitement for the movie and then their heads blown off by the surprises the trailer pretty much ruins. That said, Ill still re read and then see the movie.

Thanks
"The CEO of SpaceX" is really, really good at crafting narratives that convinces certain personality types to invest Time, Effort, and most importantly Money into the attempt to make those stories come true. Like many in both sales and politics he tells his target audience whatever it is that they hope to hear.
The problem is that if Elon wasn't as eccentric and crazy as he is, you wouldn't have SpaceX at all. Many of the most brilliant people who've created some of the greatest things in history were eccentric, distracted, and oftentimes even depressed. Like it or not, we don't get SpaceX without Elon being exactly who he is
lead engineer, not CEO.
I think it matters if you submit a paper without listing that you've used an LLM to write some of it. If you don't list all of the authors, that's bad. And if you don't think it changed anything enough to disclose it, it wasn't worth using. I have no confidence in someone who does that.
Wonderfully honest perspective on Starship, I feel exactly the same. At the beginning I was super excited by every launch, but Elon's nonsense since has really detracted from it all. I wish them all the best but it doesn't excite me any more either 😐
