[Q&A+] Mystery of Little Red Dots, Renaming Uranus, Why Fund Science? | Q&A 314
Should we really be renaming Uranus and stop making fun of its name? How will astronomers deal with the floods of data when Vera Rubin comes online? Do little red dots found by Webb solve the mystery of supermassive black hole formation? And in our free Q&A+ on patreon, what are my personal space obsessions right now? Answering all these questions and more in this question show.

+1 for NOT renaming things and being youthful giggly people sometimes to break up the serious moments in life 😊
Uranus sounds funny only in English.
Bonus question is at 16:40
Uranus needs multiple probes if we really want to enjoy all it offers! Mom! I’m talking about Uranus! It needs more probes. What? It’s not bad. What are you talking about? It’s Uranus! She doesn’t get space stuff.
You say "your-anus," I say "urine-us." Let's call the whole thing off.
Also, the planet Uranus is named after the Greek primordial deity Ouranos (in its Latin form), the personification of the sky, so renaming it due to it sounding funny in one modern language makes no sense unless you're obsessed with renaming all words in all languages that sound funny in any other language... good luck with that!
Just a small note about what would happen if the supermassive BH in the centre of the galaxy suddenly disappeared: while the BH doesn't anchor the galaxy, it does have a significant effect on its local neighbourhood (due to the shell theorem), so while most of the galaxy would be largely unaffected, the stars around where the BH was would have their orbits significantly affected. I'm not sure how big that local neighbourhood would be, but I would expect it would include a mass of stars of roughly the same order of magnitude as that of the BH, so not insignificant.
Thanks for the answer Fraser! I can never learn enough about JWST and black holes. EVER!
Uranus is fundamental.
I propose leaning farther into it by changing the spelling to Youranus.
Aastro biscuit is a guy I like to watch maybe check him out
The red dots thing is crazy I love what we are finding with jwst I feel bad about saying we should just cancel it. You think people got mad about Pluto? Don't rename Uranus.
ha ha )) first time ever I came from youtube to check out the bonus questions just to learn that the answer is: I don't know ))) i doubt I come again ))) anyway by the way, you guys always say that we can watch videos without ads here but did it occur to you that millions of people already watching youtube without ads anyway... so yes, I get you and see what you are doing trying to redirect traffic here but i just guess that "no ads" and "I don't know" answers are not enough... + too much redirecting can potentially lead to youtube channel downgrade.. do you really want it? yes it is great to be free from algorithms and ads etc... and you already free financially and self sufficient just by patreon support, but am I right or wrong, that most of the people you got found you on yutube first place, so on one hand it is a fair tribute and win-win, and on the other hand having strong yourube presense you can continue getting new people... it is of course up to you to decided but I would rather not puting different versions of the videos here and there, but just different videos altogether... as you originally did... so this way you kind of have 3 tiers of videos, 1 is for paid patreons (like extra bonus videos etc), 1 is for all patreons (which will also include all long videso from youtube but will have some unique only to patreons videos as well), and finally 1 on youtube with some overlaping with patreon ones and some unique for youtube (mostly shorts and some teasers maybe for some patreon ones). then production also will be easier, you can just say inside of the video that you can watch this one AND SOME OTHER COOL ones on patreons... and those made just for youtube can be still optimized for algorythm (which I remember you hate))) but still) so it can bring you new followers first to youtube and then here. take care and hi from Halifax, Nova Scotia ))
Hi Fraser are you not putting the live stream link up for these anymore?
I do, I just forgot today. Here's the link: https://youtube.com/live/ejChPU280H0
One of my favorite science YouTubers is Myron Cook. It’s geology, and it taught slowly, calmly, and most importantly along a path of discovery. He really brings the viewer along with him. He’s wonderful.
Don't we really need two LSST / Vera Rubins one of each side of Earth? We're only looking one way otherwise..
