Could we develop an engine that just projects light from the back, or have an on board accelerator that speeds protons up to 99% the speed of light and chuck it out the back.. perhaps picking up interstellar material as fuel. I guess we would need some kind of fusion reaction to power the whole kit and caboodle..

Oh got a question. What are your thoughts on the spin of galaxies causing blue shift or red shift depending on the spins speed and direction in relation to our galaxy, perhaps making current observations on ages of galaxies innacurate?

Hey Fraser, have you stopped posting to Spotify now? There hasn't been any new posts on there since Feb 28th.

Halley’s Comet Trivia The British gentleman for whom it is named pronounced it “haw-lee”. The pronunciation you used comes from the band Bill Haley and His Comets who used “hay-lee”.

Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halley%27s_Comet#Pronunciation) seems to indicate that the contemporary pronunciation isn't clear. One of his biographers preferred /hɔːli/ (rhyming with "crawly"), but most modern usage uses /hæli/ (rhyming with "valley").

If the Chinese version of the Hubble is going to fly in formation with their space station, how are they going to handle station keeping or avoidance manoeuvres? Will they have to retrieve it every time they want to adjust the orbit of the station?

F
Fraser Cain · March 8, 2025

No, they'll only retrieve it when they want to make upgrades to it. The rest of the time it flies close, but like cosmically close.
