We say nothing moves faster than the speed of light, but then I hear the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light and is verified by galaxies movement. What fact am I missing here? I know I'm missing something. How can these galaxies or the universe expand faster than the speed of light but nothing is faster than the speed of light?

I think there is good reasons to colonize off Earth. It would prevent a cataclysmic event from eliminating the entire race. Asteroid strikes, and other events would only take out a portion of humanity if it happened. We could even extend our demise from when the sun turns into a red giant, if we were further out in the solar system.

Fraser, how can we determine the mass of a black hole? Is it by measuring the mass & movement of what’s nearby?

Hi Fraser, Do we know if Blackholes suck in dark matter a when they eat? What about Dark Energy? Do we know if it is produced when Blackholes are feasting? Thanks for all you do! JD

Fraser going full Stephan A Smith on super hero movies. Someone needs to crush these worthless money grabs. These movies are crap, all of them. How the hell did the Dylan movie get an R rating while these violent, plotless, humorless, self-referential garbage movies get PG13s or less?

I never got into Game of Thrones, and don't watch House of the Dragons. However, I would love it if one of these streaming services made a series out of Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. The dragons have telepathic connections to their riders, and riders are overcome with lust when their dragons mate. That should be enough for the mature rating HBO usually goes for.

Your response to the Mars with air question made me think of a new question. One proposed method to Terraform Venus is to construct a solar shade that would cool the planet until most/all of the CO2 in the atmosphere has frozen. We can be pretty certain that there is no life on Mars (other than perhaps some single-celled life underground). We don't know of any life that could exist on the surface of Venus, but the horrific conditions on that planet have made it very difficult for us to explore it the way we have Mars. Without such exploration, do we have the right to change its climate? Call this a bonus question if you like. Or ignore it. My first thought was that it would be cool if we could open a wormhole between Venus and Mars. If we left it open until the atmospheric pressure reached 14.7 PSI, could cyanobacteria convert the CO2 to O2 or would the sulfuric acid be bad for the little guys' health?

Is it possible that AI or YouTube is creating all these Slop videos themselves? Self replicating AI videos?

You failed to mention Arthur C. Clarke. Unsubscribed!!! Kidding. Enjoy your posts and reporting far too much. In fact I’ll be able to jump up to your next level of Patreon support after March! I don’t use YT at all (app or website). I only use Nebula, Odysee, Patreon (where I watch and support), Twitch, TED, and CuriosityStream.

I just try very hard to not click on any videos that appear to me to be slop as you say. I don't want the evil algorithm to think I would be interested in it. The downside is that I may be missing on some legit material because I am so hessitant on creators that I do not know.

Should we build a telescope in Antarctica?

C
Caerdwyn · February 28, 2025

We actually have several... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Pole_Telescope (optical, several generations, it's also a big'un at 10 meters) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctica_Schmidt_telescopes (several under construction) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IceCube_Neutrino_Observatory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BICEP_and_Keck_Array (microwave scope) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctic_Submillimeter_Telescope_and_Remote_Observatory (what it says on the tin) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Elevation_Antarctic_Terahertz_Telescope (far infrared) It's a great place to build. No light pollution, high altitude (South Pole is something like 2850 meters), no air pollution, southern skies where most of the cool stuff is, nighttime observation sessions last for six months, chilling sensors is ummmm easier :)

Great! You said it! I’m so sick of super heroes and Star Wars. The stories are out there ready to be made into great movies. Thank you.

To answer your question about AI, I ignore them. I don't watch a lot of shorts but if I get some sort of obvious AI short I skip over it quickly. I don't engage at all. As a result I don't get fed too much AI Slop. So my feed of regular vids and shorts are most of the time real genuine people, with faces... Or cats. 😂

The Venus question. Does Venus really have no water; what about the Sulfuric acid? That contains hydrogen and oxygen plus it's very hygroscopic and likes to dilute itself. Perhaps that's where Venus's water went?

AI slop? I suppose it should be possible to get ones own AI to recognize and filter out incoming slop, but eventually this would result in all the world's spare energy being wasted on a battle between AIs. Will there be enough energy left to charge my EV?
