I have watched your videos on YT for quite a while now and can only think of one video that I did not finish watching because the conversation veered towards politics. I love your content and hope that it continues to be politics free because it would be a great loss to many viewers who enjoy the content because it is free of politics and full of all things space. I for one don't care what your politics are because it has no bearing on the quality of your reporting and I truly hope that your content continues to be politics free, especially since the only reason I created a patreon account was because of you.

Well done addressing the challenge of addressing politics while reporting on space. A plain explanation, a frank acknowledgement of your bias, delivered with a light touch; nothing less than I would expect from you (and so Canadian ;). I've been a fan since the Pamela Gay days.

I understand this is an economic decision for you as well but I'm pretty sure you'd lose the MAGA people eventually... or yourself. They have been anti-science for a long time.

Whatever your answer to this difficult question is, I actually do hope it involves your personal biases. There's so much mind blowing science happening outside of the insanity zone that you can get passionate about and take us with you.

Im from Europe and here as well is confusing. I hope EU will find the right answer for this situation.

Hey, Fraser. You’re a journalist, you’re allowed to editorialize. You declared your bias, so go ahead and speak your mind. I’m sure there are a large number of people who, like me, want to hear your viewpoint, and we want you to be a vocal advocate for science. If we become afraid of speaking our minds, we’re doomed.

Completely understand the difficulty and hey, more than 1 red flag has been raised times over with Elon so no one can judge you for saying 'it stops here, let's unequivocally defend science'. We're with you!

Hey Fraser and Co., I’m from the US and currently live in NJ. I love the space news I get here. If you believe that space news has to get a bit political because the US government is making it so, I don’t think you should feel uncomfortable about talking about it. As long as you’re stating when something is an objective truth based on evidence and what is your opinion, I think you’ll be fine. If the truth upsets some patrons enough that they leave, that’s on them. I do believe most space and science nerds tend to be reasonable. In the very least, I ain’t going nowhere! Keep up the amazing work Universe Today and do what you know is right. Everything else will figure itself out ✊🏼💪🏻

You have the respect and friendship of everyone here. Don't give up, Fraser. Ian Cooper just posted a wonderful quote to the effect that "all that evil needs to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Just as you always speak from your mind, it is equally necessary to feel free to speak from the heart. Your point of view is important to us!

Agree!

I
Ian Cooper · February 22, 2025

All that the triumph of evil requires is that good men do nothing (Edmund Burke), so Fraser don't give up.

I heard today that the budgets for Hubble and JWST may be cut by 20% to comply with an across the board request for budget cuts of the same amount. How wuld this affect our ability to do science on these platforms?

Hey Fraser, the guide to space does not open correctly

A

Can you pls be more specific so we can catch the problem?

As an LGBTQ person.... Being hyped for SpaceX while knowing he didn't like trans people, even while he went insane on twitter for a couple years, was the one cognitive dissonance I let myself have. He's 1.5 steps away from having people arrested if they don't use a name that matches their gender so I'm really done with him. All the respect for the insane amount of work and dedication of the SpaceX team, but I'm not gonna hoot and hollar for starship launches cus Nazis are back at the forefront of rocket technology.

“Nazis are back at the forefront of rocket technology” could be the quote of the year 👍

This is a difficult time for everyone, but your position is particularly difficult. Unfortunately, the current state of the world is exactly what we get when people of good will abandon engaging on issues related to politics. We, as a society, allowed the political space to become so toxic that it was easier to ignore, but by withdrawing we gave up a voice in the outcome. I have no easy answers to offer.
