[Bonus Question] Dying in Space, Cancelling SLS, Getting My Mind Blown | Q&A 297
What will we really lose in case SLS actually gets cancelled? Would nuclear rockets bring a significant enough improvement to space travel? Do we even know how to die in space? Answering all these questions and more in this Q&A show.

Dr Frase gave the information that with chemical rockets, we can reach Mars in 9 months, (only) nuclear rockets can make this journey reduced to 6 months. But we know that Mars flights by chemical rockets already take only 6 months. Why is this wrong information? what is the matter?
Hey there, Fraser if you’ve never tried the XCOM series of games that’s one of my favorites. It’s a turn based, tactical squad coy, protect the Earth from aliens game.
If you really need a space fix try elite dangerous but virtual reality mode. It’s really fun to zip through an asteroid belt or pass the sol system. Steep learning curve though.
Some time back, I was thinking about space travel taking many years. Everything has to be recycled 🤐, reused, including the astronauts themselves. Every bit of organic material would be essential to keep in use somewhere. You had the courage to say that would, or might, apply for a Mars mission, and I commend you for that. I'm sure you have heard the sad tale of the Donner party and what had to be done for a few to survive. We have to be aware that there may not be any survivors of a Mars mission with our current technology. We can't even do a sample return yet. The Soviets gave up on Mars because so many missions failed. There musk be something wrong with our current ideas about our capabilities to think these things are in our near future.
I see what you did there. Or I musk be mistaken 😀
love every bit of content you put out fraser! i have a crazy question: let’s say a rogue object of large mass comes through the solar system and disrupts the earths orbit significantly, is there any way we could affect the earths orbit to wrangle it back?
I believe you misspoke about ion engine exhaust velocities. The range of values you gave was roughly correct but in m/s, not km/s as you said. Thank you for all of your excellent reporting which I am happy to support!
