NASA Wants to Make Mars Less Toxic with this Clever Idea
Mars is full of toxic perchlorates that can be very harmful for future human missions. So, when people go to Mars, they will need to fix it. NASA has awarded a NIAC grant for a project that can help solving this problem. It's called Detoxifying Mars: the biocatalytic elimination of omnipresent perchlorates.

Dr. Lynn Rothschild is by far one of my top ten favorite scientists you have ever interviewed. THANK YOU for this!!!
And now she's got another NIAC grant to grow structures in space with mushrooms.
Hmm. Have any Mars mission / habitat simulations e.g., the Mars Dune Alpha experiment included having to cope with the known toxicity of Mars as part of their goals?
Wouldn't it be easier to scrap off the surface layer to find perchlorate free dirt underneath?
Mars is so toxic 😂
Interesting idea but it has the flavour of importing cane toads into Australia to solve a problem that then becomes a bigger problem!
