Zurg's Internal Rclone with Docker works now
I'm aware that users are frustrated with zurg's internal rclone with problems like ghost mounts and empty folders. Many of you went back to external rclone, but I found the fix.
The old way of "/mnt/zurg:/mnt/zurg:rshared" does not work because of how Linux handles FUSE. For the mount to show on your host, it must be a subdirectory of the bind. When you bind the exact path, the mount stays inside the container only. Now to fix this:
One-time host setup: "sudo mkdir -p /zurg_mnt && sudo mount --bind /zurg_mnt /zurg_mnt && sudo mount --make-rshared /zurg_mnt" This makes it a mount point in the kernel's mount table and enables propagation so FUSE mounts inside the container become visible on the host.
In Docker (compose file or your docker run command), mount "/zurg_mnt:/zurg_mnt:rshared".
Set your mount_path to "/zurg_mnt/zurg" in zurg's config.yml
This propagates the mount to your host automatically. Plex library would then point to (just an example) "/zurg_mnt/zurg/movies". See the Docker guide for how to persist the bind mount across reboots. You can also check the updated docker-compose.yml here.
Other improvements added:
zurg now tells you exactly if mount propagation is wrong
The Docker image already has user_allow_other configured to make it FUSE ready
Fixed the weird :union: folder name; it is now just zurg
You only need cap_add: SYS_ADMIN now. No more privileged mode.
If you are happy with your external rclone, you don't need to change. But if you want a simple, single-container setup, this one actually works now.

UPDATE: some users are curious about how to setup zurg in macos, I created a tutorial here with AI's help https://github.com/debridmediamanager/zurg/blob/main/docs/macos-tutorial.md

Subject: Page Not Found Error on Latest Nightly and macOS Tutorial Links Hi, When I click on the links provided in the post: • https://github.com/debridmediamanager/zurg/releases/tag/2026.02.23.0055-nightly • https://github.com/debridmediamanager/zurg/blob/main/docs/macos-tutorial.md I receive a “Page not found” (404) error. Could you please confirm whether: • The release tag has been removed or renamed? • The macOS tutorial file was moved to a different path? • The repository visibility or branch structure has changed? I would appreciate it if you could share the updated links. Thank you!

Has this been tested with Docker Desktop?
docker desktop running where?
This is really bad advice. By mounting / to /host you basically give the container access to everything on the host. Try mounting /mnt/docker to /docker and set the mount_path to /docker/zurg or something. Better to add a level than mount your root.
Thanks. Updated the text to address your concern.
