BOUND, an RPG I wrote 5 years ago

Hello lovelies,

There's no new one-pager this month, I'm afraid - I've rather let things get ahead of me, and with a few other commitments on my plate I'll have to skip September's game.

This isn't quite in lieu of a game, but something that I thought that you might enjoy. I've been fairly lax on offering unique content to my backers, and apologies on that front. Hopefully this is the sort of thing that will make up for it.

Back before I started this Patreon - before I released my first game, really - I had a bash at writing a system that would allow me to release something sizeable with an eye to writing sourcebooks and releasing them over a number of years. That game was called BOUND, and it's attached.

It didn't work, as eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed, as this is the first that you're hearing of it. I didn't have the nous, or the confidence, to make the system work - and the core identities of the player characters was rather up in the air, too. There wasn't a clear story that the game was trying to tell.

BUT I wrote it, or at least a playtest version of it, and it's... playable? Kind of. But it's definitely interesting, and as fans of my work I thought you'd be interested in taking a look. The vision of Hell it presents would go on to form the basis for God in the Attic, a novel I wrote in 2013 when I moved to Australia and didn't have a job or an internet connection.

(God in the Attic is about two alcoholic wizards who beat up a Jesus golem and huff an angel to save East Anglia.)

I think it's also really forged my ideas around the supernatural - that supernatural beings are often named and unique, rather than one of a subset of monsters - that's come through in Spire with regards to the hundred or so different gods (of all sizes) we've detailed in the book.

If you enjoy the idea of Bound, I'll see if I can dig out the rest of my notes; I went into a lot of detail on the different hierarchies of Hell, even if I didn't do as much towards making it a playable game.

Much love, and as ever thank you so much for your ongoing support,

- Grant
