Act 6-56: Lesson in Ōboro Academy

TL: Cnine

ED/PF:

Classes at Ōboro Academy have begun.

That said, the unmotivated teacher was only reading aloud from what seemed to be a magic textbook—a dreadful example indeed. In this case, self-study might be a better option.

However, experiencing the dreadful practical training firsthand enlightened me to the fact that classroom lectures were still the better option.

During the joint practical training, which included upperclassmen, the magic instructor proudly demonstrated a basic spell once, instructed the students to imitate and practice it, and then went back into the school building.

When I tracked him using my Divine Eye, I found the instructor fooling around with women in his own office. It was beyond disgraceful. The issue wasn’t just a lack of motivation; the instructors in this academy were fundamentally unfit to be educators. If I were the headmaster, I would have fired them on the spot.

Anyhow, this practical training was essentially the same as self-study. As expected, most of the students weren’t even practicing seriously; they were only chatting with their friends. If the teachers were hopeless, the students were no better.

Ariel, Shikye, Seth, Kuski, Lumine, Rose, and a few others were seriously practicing by casting magic at the targets during this joint training.

In the first place, I couldn’t even use basic magic. Or, more precisely, it would be more accurate to say that I cannot use pure offensive spells. Of course, by using 【Magic Clad】, I could imbue a stone with magical power to enhance it and then propel it with the increased strength from 【Herculean Strength】, giving it a decent amount of destructive power. However, that only works when magical power is used to enhance a physical object, not when attacking with something purely created by magical power. Naturally, using my swordsmanship allows me to produce a similar effect more efficiently, but it still requires incorporating the technique of swordsmanship.

Therefore, I couldn’t participate in this kind of training. Since I disliked the idea of being on the same level as the teachers of this academy and those lazy students, I decided to spend my time training in manipulating magical power with my right hand to write letters. This, at least, could be considered a form of magic training.

Moreover, since I am concealing my magical power, it was invisible, making it appear that all I did was write letters in the air.

There were two types of magical power: visible magical power and invoked magical power.

Visible magical power was the energy emitted externally according to the strength of the magical power a person possesses, also known as aura. When this magical power exceeds a certain level, it could even affect physical matter through its presence alone. This magical power was visible during any action and became particularly prominent when using spells or skills. [TL: Like when Kai released his full power, the density of his magical power alone was enough to put cracks in Asura’s castle. Refer to Act 5 for details.]

On the other hand, magical power manipulation was the type of magical power necessary to produce the effects of spells, skills, or special abilities. This magical power created a certain flow, which enabled various effects to be realized. It seems that few people are able to see this type of magic.

Naturally, both Beelze and I could perceive magical power manipulation, and when I was talking about "invisible magical power," I referred to the invisibility of all magical power, including magical power manipulation. The flow of magical power I’m using to write in the air right now was something even Beelze likely couldn’t see through.

Therefore, what I’m doing right now was unrecognizable to anyone, and it likely appeared as though I was just playing around like the other students. Still, I couldn’t care less what others thought about me. That’s why I think this should be fine.

Lumine was currently learning about magic from Rose. She obediently followed Rose’s instructions, casting magic, and when she succeeded, she celebrated innocently. That might be Lumine’s true nature.

At any rate, there were a few other dedicated students at Ōboro Academy who gathered around Rose to seek her guidance. Rose didn’t seem to care about that, and more importantly, she seemed to know that teaching others was also a shortcut to improving oneself. This holds true for both martial arts and magic.

When I looked at her from a distance,

「Hey, move it! That’s our spot!」

A group of students who appeared to be upperclassmen arrived and sat down in the spot Rose and her group were using.

「You know, we were using this place first, you know, Muto-kun?」

It was rare for Rose to speak with an angry tone while glaring at the silver-haired boy with a two-block haircut.

Rose’s voice carried a significant amount of irritation. Given that she knew his name, Rose and the boy called Muto were likely acquaintances. However, judging from Rose’s attitude, their relationship was far from amicable.

「A~h, my bad, Your Highness. We’ve been using this place for a long time. Newcomers should go to the corner.」

Said Muto as he sat next to the broken target dummy.

Rose gritted her teeth, but just when she was about to move to the next dummy—

「We’re using that place too. You really should just huddle together in the corner.」

「You’re going too far!」

「I'm going too far? Your Highness, you should know what kind of person I am, right?」

Muto was laughing as if he found this matter extremely amusing.

「Why are you always doing something like this?」

Unable to hold back, Rose raised her voice.

「I’ll do things my own way, no matter where I am.」

I couldn't really grasp the situation, but that boy named Muto probably just wanted to impress Rose. He might be at that age when boys get caught up in their crush. Hmm, how adorable. Even so, Rose sure seemed to be quite popular—first that sage boy, and now this one.

While I was thinking about such trivial matters, the wild child next to me, who had turned bright red like a boiled octopus and was trembling all over, finally exploded.

「STOP SAYING WHATEVER YOU WANT!」

Lumine raised her voice in anger and approached Muto and his lackeys.

「Who are you?」

Muto tried to intimidate Lumine, but the girl was not the type to be bothered by such things. On the contrary, she started running and tried to punch him. Good grief... That tomboy.

「How dare you show hostility toward me!」

「LUMINE!」

Ignoring Rose, who was about to rush over, Muto clenched his right fist tightly as Lumine charged toward him.

I kicked the ground several times to move behind Muto, grabbing his right shoulder to restrain his movement. At the same time, I blocked Lumine's incoming right punch.

「Pipe down, both of you.」

I said those words with a smile.

「LET GO OF ME! LET GO OF ME!」

She tried to swing her right fist, trying to escape from my hold, but of course, I wasn’t so soft as to let myself be shaken off by Lumine.

「I'll release you once you calm down.」

Lumine, being hot-headed as usual, was reckless and unstoppable once she started running. Well, she probably got angry at Muto and the others because of their disrespectful attitude toward Rose.

「I'm... always calm.」

「It's good that you're being an obedient girl.」

I finally let go of Lumine's right hand after she stopped rampaging.

「Will you be a good child too?」

I whispered that question into Muto's ear.

「...」

He shook off my left hand,

「Let's go, guys.」

After stating that briefly, they vanished into the school building. The other followers exchanged glances and followed after him.

「Who is he?」

「He's a student at Saint Clan Academy like me, but after nearly beating an upperclassman half to death, he was expelled and transferred to Ouboro Academy. His followers also came along.」

I see. Young ones tend to act tough. As long as he didn’t cross the line, it would just be one of those bitter memories of youth.

「That matter aside, Lumine.」

I walked up to Lumine, grasped her shoulders, and crouched down to meet her gaze.

「W-What's the matter?」

For some reason, Lumine turned bright red.

「Listen, you must not resort to force so easily. Only use it when you truly feel it's necessary. Understand?」

And I told her so.

「I-I know that already!」

I patted her head a few times as she averted her face.

「Well then, let's continue.」

I urged Rose to continue.
