New | I just saw my first opera...
... and I don't think I'm an opera guy! 😬
First of all, today is a Fifth Friday SORRYYY but we do have a unique new highlight video for both of my tracks for The Halloween Tree!
Second of all, check out the video above to hear some nonsense about the art form known as "opera" from someone whose only prior experience with it comes from that one episode of Hey Arnold! Opera heads PLEASE weigh in, especially if you've ALSO seen the new Lincoln in the Bardo opera in NYC. It's just the exact words from the book sung very slowly and very randomly?! HUH???
I'm mostly being facetious, don't get pissed pls 😇 should I go see it again now that I know what to expect? Or should I just move on from opera...
We've got one more little spooky season track for ya next Friday! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!

Hit me up for a Masquerade ticket if you’re ever interested in another type of opera, and I’ll get you one on the house (if we haven’t sold out that night)
LOVED Masquerade! thank you for the offer, very kind!
As someone who started college in the music department and ended in the theatre department, this was super validating to hear. I never really fit in with my music peers, who were like, horny for opera. And although I got to ASM a few of the operas, and it was so cool to see everything come together, opera was just never really my thing. I can’t say the BFA Acting route was always fun, but that was partially on me for being a character actor trying to fit the mold of an ingenue for so long. But I will say, the shows were always bangers, and musical theatre always feels like home to me. The issue I find in some of the operas I’ve seen, is that the emphasis is on the (absolutely stunning) vocal technique, but not always on the acting. I want to believe these characters are actually experiencing these things, not just wow-ing us with their voices.
Can you react to phantom of the opera sometime?
There's a Mario Brothers opera that's surprisingly good.
Sounds like a good motive to revisit the Phantom of the Opera with the showmen this spooky season if you ask me 👀 but on a more related note OperaVision is a great free resource to stream proshots of operas with subtitles online! It's what got me interested in the medium in an area that doesn't have so many accessible live showings
I’ve never been to an Opera but I’ve thought about how much of a fun bit (that dosent seem like the right word but I can’t think of a better one) it would be to suddenly get really into Opera. I’m a big production design gal so I’m always interested to see the practical effects whenever I see musicals so I should book tickets to one sometime soon.
lol I can pretty solidly say that Lincoln at the Bardo is not a good first opera (nor any contemporary opera for that matter). I love contemporary opera but it’s a very strange entrance to the medium. Try and catch a classic at some point if you can!!
That is the same Opera House my grandparents took me to see the Moby Dick opera when I was a kid. Blew my mind
