To be fair my first few times doing the sync I was so confused because when you said press pause, I would, but because as you don’t say ‘starting now’ I didn’t realise you had started the commentary track lmfao

I have a habit of overthinking things, so I've been thinking about this. At this point the press pause spiel is probably a deeply ingrained habit so I don't expect it to change, but maybe you could say "pause THIS TRACK when i say pause, and press play again when your copy of __ reaches ___." For some reason, the way you say it is very confusing to dummies like me, idk why. It's not like you're not describing it accurately lol I suspect that in your head, the person's copy of the thing is already playing, so you don't need to specify pressing play on the show/movie. But for me, the way that it actually works is your track is the one that's playing, the content needs to be queued up, and my intuitive understanding is pressing play on the tv/show when the commentary hits a particular point. because it took me a second to react to the point you describe. In my head, if press pause is the exact sync point, then I must be behind now. Pause commentary>>>>let content reach sync point described>>>rewind commentary>>> press play on content when you say press pause in the commentary. Basically, there are two things that can be paused/played, but your instructions are for the commentary track, and for some people the intuition is that pausing/playing the media must be involved in the process in some way. So some people like myself get confused because "press pause" is actually when they press play on the movie. You describe pausing the track, playing the movie, then playing the track. Which, to be clear, makes sense and is the only way to bring the tracks with you to a theater, where you can't pause the movie. The way you describe it is just not intuitive for a minority of morons like myself. It's not helped by the fact that obviously you can't play the movie from the start of the track because there's usually chatting for a couple minutes. So the movie starts off paused, and you can't play it until you listen and hear the description of the synchronizing point. It creates some confusion about what needs to be played when. And i can't stress enough that I know this is not confusing for most people. But I do think it's interesting to think about why it's such a common source of confusion

I think what causes the intuition issue is that usually, the sync instructions do involve pressing play at a particular point. But you're not describing pressing play on the media. You're describing pressing pause on the commentary. It's kinda the complete opposite of what people have been trained to look for i guess

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who couldn't understand wtf you were instructing me to do to sync the track for the longest time. Obviously I figured it out eventually because it isn't complicated, but i felt sooooo stupid lol
