Yay, another FPI at the “FPI spot”!

Dear member,

Woke up this morning to another one of those nice emails from Purpleport informing me that an image I’m tagged in has been added to their Front Page Image (FPI) collection.

It’s an image shot in my home studio featuring British model Kelly Klein. It was shot on 19 September using natural light at the spot that I refer to as “the FPI spot”.

There’s a plain white wall in the background that becomes darker by moving the model forward, away from the wall. This is because much of the light from the floor to ceiling windows is on the model. So there’s no magic recipe there, it’s just how the light falls on the model.

In any case I’m including a screenshot with the unedited image containing camera settings. As you can see I under-exposed by one third of a stop, which again adds to the mood. Other than that I used an 85mm lens which is ideal for portraits as it separates the model nicely from the surroundings. I set aperture to f4.0 and shutter speed at 1/200, allowing the camera to set ISO automatically- it chose ISO320, which suggests there was plenty of natural light for an indoors shot - it was midday and a rather bright day.

This is my first ever FPI with Kelly and the fact that this was our first ever shoot together is testament, I feel, to how talented a model she is.

Kelly’s posing style is unique and often intense and impermeable - it does remind me of fashion super models I must admit. Not that I consider myself a fashion photographer but I do like to allow models to express themselves freely, however they’re comfortable, which helps get the most out of them, I feel.

Incidentally, Kelly loved this photo a lot - she has been using it as her Instagram profile photo, her WhatsApp profile photo and her Purpleport profile photo! Also take a look at how she titled it on Purpleport- I screenshot it for you.

Last but not least the FPI has been awarded to the photo posted by Kelly, in which I’m tagged as the photographer. I posted the same photo myself at more or less the same time but that has not been awarded FPI status and it is not in the FPI queue. Sometimes the same photo is awarded FPI to both the model and the photographer. It depends on how much it is liked as there’s a nomination and voting process behind the scenes involving around 100 people. But that’s how life works. Pretty young girls are way more popular than elderly men 😜

Anyways, this is the 106th FPI I’m tagged in so I shouldn’t really be complaining!

I’d love to have some comments.

Have a great day.

Ps: I managed to miss-time today’s two posts (behind the paywall) and they were both published at the same time. Sorry about that. I normally try to separate them by 8 hours.
