Note: There is now the new Transcender Plugin that brings ingame live colorization of ships/multitools and the character plus many more features. Transcender is a partial replacement for Ship Editor for the colorization part at least. Transcender is also a requirement to get pitch black ships and sentinel custom colorizations since recent game patches made that impossible without the transcender tool that removes these limitations again.

Ship Editor

This tool allows you to customize your ship colors for all your ships in a convenient way. After you apply the changes you don't need the tool anymore and the custom colors will stick to your savegame until you change them again. The tool hereby only uses a natural game mechanic that hasn't been made accessible ingame for the player.

Necessary Operating System: At least Windows 10 or 11. Windows 7 won't work due to a python 3.9 restriction.

Fully supported game versions: Steam/GOG, PS4 SaveWizard Export
Experimental Support (no guarantee): WindowsStore/GamePass (not available anymore)

This tool also allows you to edit many more aspects of your ship plus extras (see preview images).

Main features that no other tool can deliver currently:

Ship Colorizer to apply any RGBA color including usually impossible colors like black
One click option to use any expedition and twitch reward ship including golden vector
One click option to use pre order ships
Conveniently copy a inventory from one ship to another
Ship slot operations to add ships to empty slots or remove ships, copy ship to another slot, rearrange your ship garage sorting
Universal ship import/export
supports all ship file formats: Goatfungus sh0 and NMSC's shp
Extended shp format ship export with custom colors
Export/Import your entire ship fleet to a file and reimport it to any other save
Export/Import your ship inventory
Ready to use "perfect stat upgrade" ship inventory presets
Squad ship/npc change option - including option for squad sentinel ships

New Features arrived with Update 1.8:

FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ - FAQ :
- What do I need to do to make Black and White work and when my ship truns out cyan ?
For Black and White to work you need to use the special "Black" and "White" buttons to force these colors. Then don't touch the black/white color boxes anymore. Reason is that the color wheel does not allow negative values and these are necessary for black because the game otherwise doesn't allow black. So reset the custom colors by unchecking and rechecking the custom color checkbox. Then click the "Black" button and save.

- My colors do not apply. The ship still keeps it's original colors on some or all areas.
This happens when your ship has certain texture mode overwrites (procedural textures) that overwrite normal palette color usage. So you need to create a seed with the customizer on nms.center that contains the proper texture modes in it's seed. For sentinels the best texture modes for custom color overrides with this tool is "Painted + Painted". On the other side the texture mode "Orange + White" completely overrides all palette colors and does not allow any custom color. SO be aware of that and create ship seeds with the right texture modes that make custom colors possible.

- How can I get a chrome/metallic/shiny or golden colored ship ?
To use chrome colors your ship seed needs to have the texture mode (procedural texture) "Chrome/Metallic" which can be selected on the customizer web app at least for some ships (fighters, solars, haulers) nms.center.

- Can others see my ship with custom colors in multiplayer ?
The most commonly asked question and the answer is no. Others will see a cyan ship (default uncolored ship state) because the multiplayer game code does not transfer custom colors for ships so only you can see the custom colors. BUT any ship customized on nms.center is like a normal ship and DOES show for others with it's colors you selected. The color range is more limited and no black available but in most cases it's enough and you don't need this tool. Personally I prefer a best of both worlds method: Custom colors with this tool but with a seed that has similiar colors made with the nms.center customizer.

- The options below the color boxes confuse me, what do I need to change there ?
You don't need to touch these at all and only change the color boxes by clicking on them. The options shown below the color boxes should be proeprly mapped for each ship type already and are just there for pro users that know what they are doing.

- As a pro noob what do I need to click to color a ship ?
After you have openend the tool click "Load", this will load your most recently used savegame. Then choose the right ship slot and click the checkbox "Custom Colors" which will give you some color boxes. Click on each color box and change the color with the color wheel that appears. When you are ready click "Save" on top of the app. If you did it one time you see how easy it is to use.

- How do I see what color changes what parts of the ship ?
I recommend to click the "Random" button in the custom color section and save. Then load into the game and you immediately see what color group refers to what part. After that go back to the tool and adapt the colors accordingly. Some color boxes also have descriptions if you hover your mouse above them.
