The Future of Critical Crafting

Hi all!

Thank you to those of you who took the time to fill out our community survey; your responses were invaluable in helping us determine what you, as backers, want from us.

2024 5e

As a result of the survey, I am happy (and a bit anxious) to announce that we are moving future content to the 5e 2024 format, still largely compatible with 2014 but updated for an ever-growing audience. Our survey in 2024 vs 2026 shows an ever-growing community of people playing 2024 or a combination of 2014 and 2024, with the 2014-only audience shrinking over time. The first 2024 5e release will be September's upcoming In The Trenches release.

We will be creating new content each month as normal. In addition to this new content, we will also be converting some of our legacy 2014 content to 2024 for ease of use.

This shift also comes along with a potential opportunity to become an official, partnered creator with Wizards of the Coast, and able to host our content on D&D Beyond (more on that if and when it develops).

After several years of choppy waters, tariffs affecting production, and poor decisions on the part of the larger corporate entities in the TTRPG community (which resulted in a very large loss of income for me - Dillon - particularly), the recent announcements and changes in the TTRPG space are very encouraging. WotC is bringing back old favorites, creating new and exciting titles, changing leadership, unionizing the creative workforce, and bringing on new creatives, which has renewed our hope for the future of the hobby.

We are very excited about the reinvigoration of the TTRPG space with the latest announced titles from Wizards; retailers have been continually requesting 2024 5e content from us, and the survey results and potential Wizards partnership opportunity have only solidified the team's decision to make this shift.

If you are a 2014-only person, never fear! There is an official conversion document available here. In addition, we are planning to develop our own conversion document as time goes on. And our backlog will continue to host all of our previous content, and we are very close to rolling out our Weaver's Web officially, which will house all Critical Crafting content info in one place.

Printable Item and Spell Cards Phase Out

We also determined based on the survey results that we will be phasing out printable item and spell cards, as these were a very time-consuming portion of the monthly releases that most patrons had no interest in. Instead, we will dedicate this time to creating better content, more art, and more engagement with you.

The Weaver's Web

The Weaver's Web is a searchable document that will enable backers to find content across the many years we have operated. If you are interested in previewing the Weaver's Web you can check it out here! This has been a MASSIVE undertaking, and despite many delays, it should be going live beginning in September.

The Mages' War Delivered!

The Mages' War Kickstarter book has officially been shipped out, and roughly 94% of people have received their books at this point. All digital content was also delivered to backers! This was a huge milestone for us as our first Kickstarter, and one that presented many problems we had to overcome as a small company of family and friends. We are looking forward to more Mages' War content in the future! Which brings me to.

In the Trenches - of the Mages' War

For those who love the Mages' War, man, have we got some awesome stuff coming for you....

In the Trenches of the Mages' War plunges you headlong into the conflict between Magic and Machine, not sneaking through cities, casting spells from the safety of your tower, or commanding mechanical troops and advanced technology in the safety of a bunker, but trudging through the muck of the frontlines.

You chose your side during the Mages' War... now it's time to learn what that will cost.

(just a little WIP teaser)

Survey Sweepstakes Winner

We have emailed the winner of the Survey Sweepstakes! Be sure to check your emails! Once work begins on this winner's art we will be sharing that in here as well :)

Thanks again for all of your support; the team is hard at work making more awesome stuff :)
