How to use Two Forks VR with the Xbox PC (Game Pass) version of Firewatch

  • Close the Xbox app (close it in the system tray too, to make sure it's gone completely).

  • Get the Xbox Insider Hub app.

  • Start the Xbox Insider Hub app.

  • Select "Previews", and then "Windows Gaming".

  • Click "Join" and wait for the process to finish.

  • At this point, you might need to let the Xbox app install some updates, I'm not sure. I opened the Windows App Store and let it install all pending updates just to be sure.

  • Open the Xbox app.

  • On the top right, click your avatar, then, "Settings".

  • Select "General".

  • Under "Game install options", check "Use advanced installation and management features".

  • Exit the settings menu.

  • Select Firewatch in your library.

  • Open the three dots menu, and select "Manage".

  • Under "Advanced management features", click "Enable".

  • Wait for the process to finish.

  • In the same "Manage" menu, go to the "Files" tab.

  • Click "Browse...". This should open a folder with your Xbox PC games.

  • Open the Firewatch folder, and then the Content folder.

  • You should now see the game files, including Firewatch.exe.

  • Drag Firewatch.exe on top of TwoForksVRInstaller.exe.

  • If everything went well, you should now be able to run the game in VR either by running Firewatch.exe, or starting the game normally via the Xbox app.

Wow AllenT thank you so much for this. I don’t know how you figured this out but I would have never gotten any of this without you. Totally had to repair my Xbox app to get it to use Advanced Management again AND had to use your safe mode fix. So odd.

Thanks for working on this! For those encountering this command prompt error upon dragging Firewatch.exe onto TwoForksVRInstaller.exe: Unhandled Exception: System.IO.IOException: The parameter is incorrect. Here is the solution that I found worked for me: 1. Open Windows Settings > Apps > Xbox > Advanced Options > Terminate, Repair, Reset. This prompted my Xbox app to update properly via Microsoft Store app. 2. Ensure you have a clean install of Firewatch and that you have launched the game at least once via the Xbox app. 3. Boot up Windows in Safe Mode (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234) 4. Within the Firewatch directory, drag Firewatch.exe onto TwoForksVRInstaller.exe. It should complete successfully now without permissions issues. 5. Since I have a Quest 2, I connected my Quest via Oculus Link, loaded up SteamVR onto my PC & Quest, and then launched Firewatch from the Xbox App which appeared on my Quest 2. I hope this helps anyone else that encountered some trouble. Additionally, I encountered instances where "Can't open this app" error would appear as well. This was caused by dragging Firewatch.exe onto TwoForksVRInstaller.exe without proper permissions, resulting in unclean install that deletes Firewatch.exe. This required uninstalling and reinstalling Firewatch as "Verify & Repair" option would error out constantly.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, I'm sure this will be useful to other people. I have never heard about the mod installer deleting Firewatch.exe, I can't imagine how this could happen (since the mod installer doesn't modify the exe). Are you sure you didn't accidentally move the game exe while dragging it? As in, you accidentally dropped it in a folder instead of on top of the installer exe. That's the only way I can imagine the exe being missing.
