Rereading that summary from the beginning reminded me of when the author specified that vampires couldn't die from having their wrists slit. Then everone was sad Draco the vampire killed himself by slitting his wrists. Then Draco was alive again.
Okay. Here's my insane crackpot theory: JK Rowling was the author of My Immortal. She was secretly using My Immortal as a testing ground for her stupidest ideas, then finally settled on how she wanted the books to end.
The hilarious thing is that it's technically correct to use the word "ejaculated" in that context - to say something suddenly.
And that's the best kind of correct!

when did this come out? did the author actually predict the big end twist of harry potter? according to a net, ch 42 released on july 5, '07 and DH released at the end of july. instead of azkaban, we got azerbaijan...what in the, this is SO close to how the book ends, but it was released before hand? does that track?
Tbf careful readers could very easily figure out based on tropes where the story would go and what archetypes similar stories also had.

the last few sentences of my immortal actually got me. ebony just wanted to slit her wrists with her friends and bone draco and here she is, making a decision that changes the trajectory of all their lives. she only tortured but never killed up to that point. i cannot believe theres a loss of innocence and childlike wonder-trope here 😭😭😭😭
RIGHT? Ebony/Enoby hasn't been kind but she has never killed. She's begged over and over again how she doesn't want to kill, and doesn't want anyone to die because of her inaction, so for the fic to end as it does, you can either see her lose her innocence (killing Vampire) or realize that she has to put something else above her own desires, even if it's not an easy choice to make (saving preps and killing Satanmort).
im catching up with this extremely late but in case anybody is curious: a few different people have claimed to be the author of my immortal, all have been debunked but its generally agreed that there's enough proof that it was actually likely a teenage girl who wrote it. Strange Aeons on youtube has a fantastic massive deep dive on the history and authorship of the fic that I recommend if anybody wants more details.

I know! I was so disappointed they didn't notice. It's such a great self-insert slip-up. I wonder if they forgot the lore about the author's name.
I love this and I love how much they love it and I do dearly wish Dan didn't immediately assume every author he likes is a middle aged man.
i know your comment is old, but yeah i noticed that too. anytime someone is funny theyre male-coded to him, which a lot of other people of that generation fall into. interesting to see, and as a lady, a little sad, but thankfully we’ve gotten pretty far from the conditioning that shaped those assumptions :D

it's so impressive how the writing never improved, it's like the author wrote the whole story in the span of like three months, spelling never got fixed, the plot continued to be all over the place, I'm legitimately impressed at the consistent style and quality

I'm both relieved and honestly a little deprezzed that My Immortal is over. It was so pants-shittingly terrible and unbelievably hilarious at the same time and it will most likely never be matched

Is anyone else honestly feeling inspired to write fiction after My Immortal? Like...honestly, it brought back memories of when I was 13 or 14 and would write complete garbage *constantly*...and remembering how fun that was before I developed an inner critic. It's silly, but I legitimately feel inspired to write after My Immortal, hahahaha.
I had this thought too throughout the series! I wrote a HP fanfic around the same age and now I want to write just for the sake of writing, it was really fun! The inner critic be harsh sometimes, I think I'll approach it with "just write, don't even think" Thank you My Immortal for re-fanning the flames! I absolutely encourage you to write more! Let if be as silly as you want!
I think I'd actually prefer it if you read half as many chapters and read two or more different stories in the same episode. I feel like I'm missing the variety a little bit
As someone who had to do a ton of navigating and skipping around in order to enjoy My Immortal in its full uninterrupted glory, I have to disagree. 😂
The author was wrong about a lot of things, but she did predict that J.K Rowling did have a phobia towards certain people...just not the type she or any other fan expected 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
