I'm not sure if subscription boxes were ever 'good', but the snack/food-based ones are usually superior. In the 'themed' product boxes, you'll *maybe* get 1 item that you would've never bought, but it feels like it almost justifies the monthly price.
Snack/food-based ones I can get with, bc at least they're consumable or you can give them away to friend and the office if you don't want them
