Need help with international merch

Any of you folks have knowledge in how to ship internationally without a lot of hassle?  Jen and I have been trying to figure this out for some time now, and it seems crazy difficult.  It surprises me that so many youtubers ship internationally, so I feel like maybe we are missing something.  We have a shop set up with Shopify, and use mainly Printful to make the merch.  But as soon as you start selling across borders...customs, duties, VAT, paperwork, all different for each country...  I'd really like to make stuff available to fans from other countries, but yikes!
