One of my absolute favorite movies of last year, and one that immediately became one of my favorite horror films of all time. I think it’s a magnificent exploration of motherhood and grief. It’s gut-wrenching, deeply unsettling, utterly painful, and absolutely heartbreaking. The cast is small, but the performances are phenomenal. The young actors playing Andy and Piper do a fantastic job of portraying their sibling dynamic and the love they have for each other. Sally Hawkins is always incredible, but personally, I think this is one of the finest performances of her entire career. On a side note, I did enjoy Weapons and think Amy Madigan was fantastic in it. However, in a fairer world, I would have given the Oscar to Sally for her performance in this film. Laura is such a layered, complex character, whereas Aunt Gladys is just evil for evil’s sake. There’s simply not much more to her than that. The fact that Sally was pretty much overlooked throughout awards season will never sit right with me.
This isn’t a sequel to Talk to Me, it’s just by the same directors
Great reaction!!
2:07:46 When it comes to Piper and her bond with Laura you can say that went out the window when she found her brother dead in the bathroom floor, and Laura’s attempt to kill her. If you go back to 57:50 when Laura tell Piper, she can call her Mum if she like. Piper responded with “Um, maybe,” which was just a friendly unsure. At 1:33:39 when Laura was drowning Piper, Piper then scratch Laura face and yelled out, Mum! I would say that’s not because she actually see her as her mom, but a survival tactic. Hearing that word shatters Laura causes her to hallucinate her daughter voice saying Mum which made her let Piper go
At 1:50:38 To explain how she put the angel in Oliver, after you finish the movie and you were wondering how she put the “Angel” in Oliver (Connor) if you go back to the beginning of the movie, at 2:30-3:22 that whole scene was showing you the whole beginning process of what she was doing with Oliver. You guys at 3:23 even point out that weird mark we see under that woman’s eye like we see under Oliver’s eye as well. You can also interpret that as the after effect of the completed beginning process of putting the so-called Angel in a host. While we didn’t see her do it. You can interpret the beginning scene of her doing it herself without us seeing the beginning process in her point of view, but of someone else’s.
Racka Racka !
This is my second rewatch, but this movie is so harrowing, it hurts my soul when Andy dies.
Justice for Andy!
Oak: "OHH UH-UH NO NO, TURN IT OFF! What are we watching? What are we doing here?" Also Oak: "4.9/5"
LMFAO i love him
I’m stressed. 😭😂
I hope they watch *Leviticus*; I think it could be considered the third installment in this series of films.
Regarding how Laura got the demon-angel inside Connor: in terms of cultural context, in Mexico, there is a lot of talk about how one might "invite" a demon. It is said that when a person experiences great pain, it acts like a beacon for these entities that seek to enter the earthly realm. These things enter one’s life by invitation. The film mentions a circle because Laura is inviting this creature—which had already been hovering around her, promising to return her daughter—to take possession of Connor. Personally, I do believe in these things, so I’m very glad that the way the demon possessed Connor wasn’t depicted in a graphic manner. I mean, I live in an area where, even today, people catch cats to sacrifice them and hang them on their doors—either for protection or to cast curses on others—and where people bury photographs of those they hate in cemeteries.
My daughter demanded we see this in theaters for her 23rd birthday, and I had my eyes covered at least 50% of the movie. I’ve been anticipating the guys’ reaction ever since and it did not disappoint, although I feel slightly bad for traumatizing Oak so deeply. 3 things remain are certain: 1) I’ll never be able to stomach some scenes, 2) I’m low-key nauseated after watch #2, and 3) there absolutely will not be a watch #3. Thank you for your service, gents. Let’s never do this again. 🫡
This movie is excellent but fuck man. I watched it when it came out & said this is one of those I’ll never watch again. Y’all just had to react to it huh 😂😂😂
Ya know it's a good horror movie when we get reactions like THESE, that 'Eating' Knife/Skin part got me as squeamish & as shocked as you guys were over what happened to Wendy. The sound design made the whole atmosphere of this movie even more eerie & feel even more uneasy watching. Liked the use of the word "Grapefruit" although it was never explained, we got an idea of the meaning behind it of their own secret way of saying "Be Honest" in situations. The Actors who played Laura/Pipe/Andy/"Ollie" absolutely crushed their roles & made the story really believable. Quinn "You're Always Touching Me, Touch Yourself" over Answer tap his face gave me such a big cheeky giggle. 😈
This was one of the most f'd movies I've seen in a while. Ickkk.
I’m only halfway through and Laura needs to drive off a cliff. I’ve never hated a character so bad. 🤬
I know it has probably been said but the reason when piper said “mom” it meant so much was because after the Dad’s funeral the night they got drunk and Andy and Laura were talking. Laura said she would give anything just to hear her daughter Call her mom again . so when Piper said that it truly gave her what she wanted and snapped her out of her insanity for the moment
First time watch for me and this is such an interesting perspective. Thank you for sharing this
damn, Andy's voicemail to Piper was heartbreaking. Made me tear up
I got used to watch Badd Medicine to accompany my meal time this time, it's badd decision 😅
That knife scene gets me every damn time. My teeth hurt just watching it.
I absolutely hated this movie :(
I knew this film was gonna mess with oak real bad
Yall should watch Leviticus next!
Guys, now you need to watch The Shape of Water (2017) so you don't have (only) this film in mind when you see that actress somewhere else.
good movie but could never find myself to rewatch it. the ending was just DREADDDDD. glad u reacted to this guys!
I know I've been one of the ones that has requested this film, so it's easily one of my favorite reactions from y'all. The collective shock on those intense scenes is priceless. I personally like this one a little bit more than Talk to Me simply because I thought the emotional scenes worked better
awesome film, loved the reactions, especially oak haha
I wouldn't watch it again 😣
The actor playing Laura did a great job
Diamond Dave's reaction was me watching this 🤣
I saw a short clip of Laura hitting Piper on Instagram. I had no idea it was from this movie; I was shocked when I saw it
Since we’re getting into Australian horror y’all should watch Leviticus!!! Stars Joe bird who played riley in talk to me!
Oak asking if it's one of us who recommended this movie, is frying me 😂😂😂 (I certainly did not!) I think I'll need therapy and holy water after this! That movie was very good!
I'm ready to watch Oak freak out.
Knowing now they watched this because they thought it was the sequel to Talk to Me makes me feel so much worse for them 😂😂
It's not a sequel? I enjoyed talk to me but never got around to seeing this
Watching you all be so squeamish has me laughing. Loved this movie though, was excited to watch it again!
Oak always being so surprised that a Horror movie is F’d up never gets old 😂😂
“What are we doing here guys?!” 🤣
I was curious about this one, so I watched the trailer… and now I'm terrified! 😱 I'm not great with horror, so I might have to work up the courage to watch it later… preferably from behind a cushion! 🫣
I'm happy you guys reacted to this, cause I wanted to go back to it and mannnnnn I didnt want to rewatch it alone. This movie is brutal in many ways, but it is truly a good horror movie.
I'm just gonna close my eyes for the whole thing and just listen to yall scream 😌
I know all and especially Diamond Dave is going to hate this one 😭 especially the foster mom
I hate that manipulative bitch sooo much, this gonna be a try not to rage challenge for me 😆
