CoreFX 1.4 (10-Day Early Access)

Available in our Discord for Tester tier patrons

Hello everyone, we were not too vocal about our next 1.4 update, so it's a small shadowdrop for you. This is our biggest complexity-wise release, so we need you to test it our for the next 10 days.
Please report bugs you find in our Discord, and we will try to get it fixed for a public release.

What's new for GTA V Legacy and Enhanced:

FXPT (Enhanced)

CoreFX's own path tracing for GTA V Enhanced.

  • Global illumination: ReSTIR GI and a world-space radiance cache replace the game's baked ambient with traced light that keeps bouncing, so buildings pick up the glow of the streets around them.

  • Ray-traced local lights: lamps near the camera each cast their own soft ray-traced shadow. Neon signs, lit windows and car lamps light up the walls and roads around them.

  • Every light counts: whatever a GI ray hits is lit by the sun, the sky, lamps and glowing surfaces, and that light carries on through the radiance cache, so a whole street lifts out of the dark.

  • Path-traced reflections: two bounces, lit with ray-traced shadows instead of shadow maps, with a material table that makes metal look like metal.

  • Denoisers: NRD on any card, DLSS Ray Reconstruction on RTX cards, FSR Ray Regeneration on Radeon RX 9000 cards. If one can't start, NRD takes over.

  • Performance Mode: makes FXPT cheaper.

FXRT (Legacy)

Real ray tracing in GTA V Legacy, not a screen-space effect.

  • Rays run against the actual scene geometry, so sun and lamp shadows, ambient occlusion and global illumination keep working for everything the screen can't see.

  • NRD does the denoising.

  • Runs on RTX cards and Radeon RX 6000 or newer.

Volumetric Clouds (Legacy and Enhanced)

  • Real 3D clouds inspired by Microsoft Flight Simulator and Horizon Forbidden West, raymarched as volumes instead of painted on a flat sky.

  • Sunlight is marched through every cloud, so edges glow and the shaded sides fall away.

  • They cast shadows on the ground, send godrays through the gaps, light up with lightning and show in reflections.

  • Each weather has its own design from our CloudBuilder tool.

CloudBuilder (Legacy and Enhanced)

Our own app for designing clouds, included with CoreFX.

  • Build cloud designs and setups, choose which weather uses what, and preview them live at any time of day.

  • Install a pack into the game with one click. Setups show up in a running game at once.

Volumetric Smoke (Legacy and Enhanced)

  • A real-time simulation replaces the game's flat sprites. Smoke billows, rises, drifts with the wind, goes round the car and what stands near it, and is lit through its own depth.

  • Burnouts leave real smoke behind that piles up around the car.

  • With Smoke Source set to All Smoke, the volume also takes over exhaust, flares, smoke grenades, explosions, fires, dust and splashes. With Burnouts Only, it stays on the tyre smoke of burnouts, wheelspins and skids.

  • It only costs GPU time while there's smoke, and it's off by default.

Motion Blur (Legacy and Enhanced)

  • A dedicated wheel blur follows each wheel's rotation, so at speed it reads as a spinning disc instead of a frozen rim.

  • Enhanced's motion blur now runs at full resolution instead of half.

  • Legacy gets per-object motion blur, so cars and people blur with their own movement, not just the camera's.

Denoisers for Vanilla RT (Enhanced)

You don't need FXPT for cleaner ray tracing. The rays stay the game's own, but NRD, DLSS Ray Reconstruction or FSR Ray Regeneration can take over from its denoisers, so reflections keep their shape instead of blurring away.

Screen-Space Reflections (Legacy, and Enhanced without ray tracing)

Water, puddles, vehicles and every other reflective surface now reflect what's actually on screen instead of just the game's blurry reflection map, so reflections line up with the world around them.

TAA, FSR and DLSS (Legacy)

The game now has modern anti-aliasing: our own TAA, FSR 3.1 and DLSS, which runs as DLAA at native resolution and can upscale below it. Foliage and other fine detail stop breaking up into jagged pixels.

Smaller features

  • Physically Based Sky (Legacy and Enhanced): updated, with a soft glow around the sun and clean, dark nights.

  • Streetlight Specular (Legacy and Enhanced): lamps leave a streak on the road. In Enhanced it needs FXPT.

  • Contact Shadows (Legacy): fine shadows from small objects, in the shade and in direct sun.

  • Lens Ghosts and Halo (Legacy): bright lights get lens ghosts and a halo ring in the bloom.

  • New In-Game Menu (Legacy and Enhanced): tabs, search and simpler controls. Follows your ReShade theme.

  • Clearer Warnings (Legacy and Enhanced): if shaders aren't running, CoreFX says why and what to check.

Bug fixes

  • Post Effects (Legacy and Enhanced): colours, vignette and scanlines stay right on post effects CoreFX doesn't replace: night vision, thermal and Legacy's Normal Shader Quality.

  • Yellow Roads (Legacy): modded textures no longer turn distant roads yellow.

Hope you will enjoy the game one last time before Grand Theft Auto VI release.
