Lust Theory Season 2 STEAM RELEASE QUESTION

Hi, sooo.....

Lust Theory Season 2, once finished, will have around 40.000 IMAGES and 800 ANIMATIONS while Season 1 of the game had 8.300 IMAGES and 190 ANIMATIONS. Like you can see from these numbers, Season 2 is a bit bigger 🤣

However, there is a problem... To be more precise, it's the "Voice acting". With such a huge game, recording and implemnting it into the game will take a few months so our question to you is:

Do you want us to release the game on STEAM without the voice acting and then add it in a few months once it's done? Or wait for the voice acting and then release it on STEAM?

We expect to have Lust theory S2 Episode 9 finished by the end July and we will need a month, at least, to polish it for STEAM so the earliest possible release date on STEAM would be around September (without voice acting) and the voice acting version would probably be released around New Year.

Best regards,
Inceton

I deal with both steam and patreon. Most of interviews on steam is very positive and I gave very positive review on steam

I do believe that a game should be realease once is complited becouse the only people that will understand the fact that is lacking something is us (the patreon members) but on steam you will get a lot of people that will stop playing the game, give you a bad review and stop others from trying you and avoid you into making more money and that will cost you to stop giving us more.

I'm happy to have my team help with the Voice Overs. I own a media production studio with very low noise floor for world class quality.

voice is my only reason for patreon support. still waiting for voice before I start season 2. This may just be me but if I had any say voice would be a MUCH bigger priority but i totally get if the majority disagrees.

The voices are what made this game for me to be honest, dont get me wrong leaving the voice to imagination is cool and all but having an actual voice leaves more to ur imagination to play with i suppose

A question around voice acting : do you plan to change voice actresses for season 2 ? Megan's one is top notch, but Jessica's (my favorite) does not match with her character...

As someone who only discovered this game genre this year, Lust Theory was the 4th game I played. The first 3 were all silent apart from the “action” scenes and hearing the characters speak for the first time was amazing. It made the game much more engaging. I don’t want to wait for the next episode, but knowing the finished product will so much more polished will make it easier to bear. In an ideal world - Ryan Reynolds as the main character, with Morgan Freeman as the narrator? :D

Well a tough question but a good one. Voice acting can only make and already good game a great one and to be honest most people won’t give the game a chance without it. But speaking from someone who has played it 3 times to get as many of the special events to spawn as possible. I can wait for the voice acting. Honestly my only real problem is the mouse clicking gets really tiring after a while. You might consider controller support in the future as well.

I think there will be no problems if you release the game before the voice acting is ready. It's hard to wait until the new year...

I agree with Nate Adams. It would give so much more to the game with a beautiful voice over. I am looking forward to it

The Voice Acting just adds so much to the game

I need option 3: Steam doesn't allow adult games in Germany at all, because anything that's not rated by the German version of the ESRB needs a functioning age verification system and Steam refuses to implement one.

If i recall it right: Every high enough backer was able to get a free steam key for season 1. Not sure how this will be handled with Season 2.

For the players who play the patreon version I'd say most are ok with voice acting coming later as that's what we know, but for the Steam players new or returning from season 1 the voice acting may bring a more unique polished experience to stand apart from the usual voiceless adult visual novel. If season 1 had voice acting right out of gate I think it'd be granted that season 2 would also have voice acting right of the gate as well.

Valid point

I also think that the game will only have one chance to make some impact on steam. And for that chance it is needed to have it in the best state as possible. Thats why i voted for adding voice acting first and release it after. And that argument will be even more heavy, wenn your old statement is still true, that patreon pays for the daily bills and steam pays the new homeplace. Aslong as you dont "need" that steam income that urgently, there is no reason to waste the first impression there.

Yup agreed with the above comment, waiting for the VO work would make this feel much better for the customers in my opinion. While I have enjoyed season 2 on Patreon so far, I started with season 1 on Steam and it is definitely missing that feeling of polish without the VO work.

Oh and the livestream was fun, good job with that! (I was glutenfreetv if anyone remembers haha)

I would play ASAP and then replay when the V.O. Comes out. And im sure I’m not the only one. Sure it would surprise some that it doesn’t have V.O. Right off the bat, but ~5 months is more than enough time to call for a replay.

B
Bodin · May 16, 2022

I think it's a wasted opportunity to show the game off in the best state possible if you release it prematurely. So many players that are not part of Patreon will play it before V.O., but not after. And perhaps even be disappointed that it doesn't include V.O. when the first season did.

From a sheer business perspective, I think it is better for Inceton to release it ASAP and patch it later so that those revenues can help you keep your team paid. The voice acting is done by a third party (correct?), so it does not tie your team up further. Just my own two cents - as a business owner, that is what I would do.

Agreed with Everything but the comment bellow also has a valid point. This is why we asked you guys what you think is best.
