IMPORT MANAGER ADD-IN: EARLY ACCESS & DOWNLOADS [Silver Members]

Hello friends, great to have you here as a Silver Member. This week's training is on Import Manager Add-in.

In this training, I will share a simple way to import data from any workbook into another workbook. Select the source, destination, and options, then map the columns & formats. Watch the entire video to see how you can use this as well.

▶️ Feel free to watch the full training video right here on YouTube.

As a Silver Member, you can also participate in our Feature, Fix or Focus Program, in which each week I will add a feature, fix an issue, or focus on a specific part of the current week’s training. This Feature, Fix, or Focus will be entirely based on your requests and ideas in the comments below. Based on those suggestions, I will then create another short video, along with an updated workbook and make them available exclusively to you, right here on Patreon. I look forward to reading your comments below.

👉 Make sure you download the workbook, PDF codebook, and the training resources in the files below.

I would love to hear your feedback, ideas, and suggestions on any upcoming videos as well, so make sure to comment below as I read every comment.

I look forward to hearing from you and I hope you enjoy the training. Thank you.

This is timely. This Add-in can help me streamline my code (my need is to load dynamic data from multiple global repository Tables\Database\workbooks each time my workbook is open (to get the most current data). is it possible to 1. search one or two key fields - if same update data in my workbook otherwise append the data (at present I delete the data in the workbook incase the source has deleted row - your add-in is better), 2. is it possible to save import field mapping instructions and schedule a refresh data periodically i.e. every 3 hrs (target data always start in F7), 3. some people may have a need for the option to update the source data: Add, Delete, Update (this option would be cool if possible - when data update authorization is not an issue).

HI and thanks so much. The idea of an import came up as well so i would explore that. Recurring imports would also be so nice. The idea of a recurring import would be to check the 'source data file' and store the last row imported. If there are rows beyond this last row, then another import can be done. If no new rows have been added, then no import is needed. I will try to work in as much as possible in the update. Thanks again for your continued support

HI Ajay, thanks for the suggestion. Its a great idea that I did not think of and certainly would save a ton of time. I will do my best to get that idea into the update. Thanks again for your continued support

Thought I would use this to ask a question not directly related to the video and that has to do with Excel/VBA compatablility wiht Mac versons since I know issues exist. Have you ever done a survey of your apps, more generally a coding sequence shared amonst apps that doesn't work with Mac. Haave you identified libraries that are just not compaatible? I would thing the Micosoft File structure related ones are maybe in this category? How about the add-in where you edit the ribbon menus? I think this is an area to explore. I would like to buy a MacBook but I don't want my VBA endeavors to go to waste. Also may be an interesting subtect to explore conditional VBA code like you would use for Excel version but extended to operating system options as well when alternativeds to the Windows Excel code are known to exist.

HI Malcolm, thank so much for the comment. While I myself have not taken the dive into the comparison, others have done a great deal of work in this area. Have a look at Ron Debruin's website https://www.macexcel.com/examples/ He has a great amount of content on Excel for Mac as well as the comparisons Having a Mac can be great, however if you do, get something like Parallels https://www.excelforfreelancers.com/go/run-windows-on-YTComnty This will allow you to seamlessly run WIndows applications on a Mac. I hope this helps and thanks so much.

I’m looking forward to this video. I must be missing something as I can’t get into select merge columns due to debug error in first column. Maybe it doesn’t like commas or spaces? I have lastname, first and some have hyphens or (French) apostrophes. I would definitely use this!

I am sure it can work for you. It may have something to dow ith the data. It depends on the cause of the error. Maybe you can take a screenshot of the error and also when you hover over the variables so i know what is going on and the data (basically as much information as possible) Feel free to email me here Randy@ExcelForFreelancers.com Thanks Dawn

I hope we will also have Column mapping from one workbook to columns of other workbook in form of userform list so data is copied easily, for now I cant see any such feature in it, but this project is very interesting can save tons of time ,Great idea Randy.

Hi Ajay thanks very much for your comment. The 3rd column in the userform is the mapping column from the destination workbook. This will tell the application which column to place the imported data. The 4th column is for the format. Please make sure to watch the entire training as I explain it. I hope this helps and thanks so much.
