Another one bites the dust
[Update Jan 20: the posts that contained (older versions of) the mod have been temporarily locked. I will need to go through them one by one and "sanitize" them. It's probably gonna take me a few days, so please be patient if you can't find the instructions for your favorite game right away. While I'm at it I will also check if the information is still up to date (broken links, workarounds no longer needed, and the such) so that it's not just a horrendous waste of time.]
Many of you have noticed that two of my recent posts disappeared about a week ago. I apologize that I could not comment personally about the fact, because there was an ongoing legal exchange.
Now that the dust has settled, I'm even more sorry to announce that we are leaving behind an adventure that so many of you deeply loved and enjoyed. CD PROJEKT S.A. decided that they would follow in Take-Two Interactive Software's steps and issued a DMCA notice against me for the removal of the Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod.
At least they were a little more open about it, and I could get a reply both from their legal department and from the VP of business development. But in the end it amounted to the same iron-clad corpo logic: every little action that a company takes is in the name of money, but everything that modders do must be absolutely for free.
As usual they stretch the concept of "derivative work" until it's paper-thin, as though a system that allows visualizing 40+ games in fully immersive 3D VR was somehow built making use of their intellectual property. And as usual they give absolutely zero f***s about how playing their game in VR made people happy, and they cannot just be grateful about the extra copies of the title they sold because of that—without ever having to pour money into producing an official conversion (no, they're not planning to release their own VR port, in case you were wondering).
The bottom line is all that matters, and gamers be damned.
Am I a little bitter about all of this? Yeah, you bet I am. Especially in the same week when Meta pulls the plug on three major VR studios. Especially after four years during which I (together with other modders) spent so much time keeping our mods alive in spite of CDPR's constant breaking updates. Especially when they never even knew or cared during all this time that the VR conversion was there, and are only knee-jerk reacting now because somebody reported to them that it existed and it was not free.
What really irks me is the duplicity with which the corpo mind thinks and reacts.
—"Are you considering an official VR port of your game?"
—"HAHAHA, you must be delusional, why would we spend our precious money building something only because gamers yearn for it, when there's no clear return on investment".
—"Are you allowing developers to be at least supported financially while they do the work you refuse to do?"
—"ABSOLUTELY NOT, we are okay with it if they give all their time and expertise for free, but it's downright shameful for them to ask for money".
Anyway. Dear Cyberpunk 2077: I've got one less problem without ya.
I'll republish here the content of the posts that were taken down, edited to keep the true money-makers and their lawyers happy. An amended mod release will follow later in the day.
But stay tuned!!! Despite everything, I really want to end this on a positive note, so I'll jump the gun and just release today the new conversion I have been working on, without going through the ordinary testing cycle. Maybe it will be a little rough around the edges, but we'll take care of that, as we always do ;-)
What game am I talking about? Well,
Gimme a B...
Gimme a G...
Gimme a 3!
Baldur's Gate 3!!!
See ya later []-D

Release 26.3.0 of the R.E.A.L. VR mod, attached below, [There will be a new release soon with CP2077 support removed, which] aims to fix a few long-standing problems that in various degrees have affected some of you when playing our VR conversions.
As you know, my goal has always been to allow us to experience all those beautiful virtual worlds "from the inside", but with a focus on preserving the original gameplay flow and making it possible to do a full playthrough in VR.
Sometimes a game lends itself to the conversion smoothly, with a uniformity of behavior that makes modding it a pleasant journey (in other words, "if the tutorial level works, the whole game works"). But most of the time there are dozens of quirks and corner cases that require special attention and demand much longer hours to fix, test, fix again.
Here are a few of those cases. You can expect more to come in the following months. Very special thanks to Brandon and to all of you who tested early access mods and wrote detailed bug reports; this kind of iterative, continuous improvement would be impossible without your help.
Days Gone: the fix I published for the twitchy "aiming with throwables" camera, while working perfectly for most people (including us during testing) still seemed to be only partially effective for some others. I have investigated further, and made more profound changes that should insure a smooth behavior when the throwables arc is displayed, no matter what version of the game you're using (Classic or Remastered) and even in cases when your frame rate is too low and irregular. Feedback always welcome!
Cyberpunk 2077: since official update 2.0, where vehicle combat was first introduced to the game, the VR mod has allowed you to shoot accurately from inside your vehicle. Actually, the precision and speed achievable with gaze-based aiming in VR was way higher than what you could get with gamepad alone, as happens with all our conversions. However, the animation of your character's arm and gun didn't follow the crosshair, which for some of you was a little immersion-breaking. I rewrote the in-vehicle shooting code from scratch, and now the animation should be correct at all times, making for a fun and seamless experience.[The previous v24.2.0 R.E.A.L. VR release] also improves Photo Mode for Cyberpunk 2077. The camera is now completely decoupled when Photo Mode is active, which means that you can freely look around without disturbing the shot, but the position of the grid (which can be rotated independently with your KB/M or gamepad) will determine the actual framing of the screenshot.
So long, and thanks for all the fish :'-(
Elden Ring: I didn't change anything with this one, but Brandon put in the time to test the Reforged mod (a free, extensive overhaul of the game) and it seems to be working flawlessly! So if you needed an excuse to start a new playthrough of the game in virtual reality, there you have it []-D
Additional instructions from Brandon: to get the overhaul working in VR, after installing the mod, rename RealVR64.dll in the ELDEN RING\Game folder to dxgi.dll. Then you'll be able to start the game from the Reforged launch options. You will need to create a new character and go through the tutorial section, which was redone to teach Reforged mechanics.
Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn, Far Cry 6: these three games offer co-op multiplayer, which has always been a sore point in VR because the multiplayer mode has just enough differences in the character rotation code that playing co-op in VR was basically impossible. With this release of R.E.A.L., all important issues should be sorted out: your view will no longer randomly become headlocked after loading a level or fast traveling, and the map in Far Cry 6 multiplayer will work as expected and no longer be all black. There might still be some jank when using the Ubisoft overlay (the chat for instance has a tendency to become headlocked and too big), but that can be worked around by temporarily switching to the 2D virtual screen. Chatting while playing co-op in VR is best done via mics anyway instead of textual input.

Doeeees ETS2 happen to work with RealVR? No worries, I'mma test it anyways :::)))
is the cp2077 completely gone?
Yes, unfortunately. They opted for an on-location VR experience instead.
Me today: "I haven't played Cyberpunk or VR for a while, and there's that Phantom Liberty DLC I never got around to buying. I wonder if I can get the latest Luke Ross mod and play it that way. Oh crap. They killed the mod? I guess I won't bother buying the DLC. I bet Pools will be fun." CD Projekt Red: *Shoots itself in the foot.*
I want to know where is all the mod up dates where are all the mods updates because I don't even have the latest updates this is getting ridiculous
1 month has passed, I wonder if luke has new plans, or he's gonna take another month to think ...
The pause ends the 22nd. So, a month has almost passed. But yeah, should be a post popping up any time.
Чел я только что заплатил тебе 10 евро за то, что бы скачать мод на 2077 ти натыкаюсь на вот это!!! И как мне вернуть деньги теперь !!!
There was a message presented to you before joining about the current situation. I can ask Luke about a refund for you.
my 5070ti is running CPVR almost 3x better then my 4070ti, I didn't think it was going to be that big of an improvement but I'm running 25ppd smoothly
Did you turn HAGS on or anything? 3x the performance seems like way too much of a jump to just be from the GPU 😋 Although the extra VRAM along with being GDDR 7 etc probably helps with stability, same as 5090 over 4090. Glad to hear you are enjoying the upgrade, seems like they are only going to get ridiculously more expensive from here on out 😒
any closer to access dude? I have paid and getting zero joy. I feel for ya but gonna have to ask for my coin back if there isnt access to kdc2 soon. I can't even try something else because there is nothing
Has anyone else noticed issues with 6dof in Indiana jones ? It works only in cutscenes but in regular game play only 3dof.
You need to enable 6dof in the REAL overlay for that game if you haven't. Otherwise, it is 3dof.
CD Projekt Red is showing me facebook advertisements for Cyberpunk 2077 XR glasses. So now we *really* know why they're axing this mod. Pure greed. They're as bad as the evil corpos they depict in game.
I just became your Patron again, for $20/month, because fuck CD Projekt S.A. with a sandpaper dildo. I'm glad I still have a copy of your mod before this happened. I love playing Cyberpunk in VR. Hopefully my version still works.... wish I had the newest version. :9 Anyone wanna hook me up? Obv not LukeRoss, that would be illegal.
I just became a new member because I wanted to play bg3 with my new glasses. I understand we are just in a specific moment of drama but I am a little bit confused. None of the mods are available? or just the cyberpunk one? Is there any timeline when the rest will be back? Thanks
It should have let you know what was happening in the section you read before joining. Luke is on a pause until February 22nd. Hopefully things will be back up at that point, but he is also figuring things out still. It should have warned you about this and that if you still chose to join it was purely to support Luke without the mods available currently. I can ask about a refund if you want.
I been supporting this patreon for a while now. But ill be damed if I didnt miss the best one! I really want the Baldurs Gate 3 version. If anyone could kindly email it to me that would be fanfuckintastic. Im not a pirate lol, I been a paid supporter for a while. In addition I have a few old editions of the mod with Cyber Punk still active if someone can trade. Mark02_02@yahoo.com
Just heard the news! Sorry that we are all going through this with you. We are here! We are behind you 100% !! We know you're extremely clever! Smart Ass! 🤣 You got this! This thing you got going here has boosted the VR players base! It's also opened up multiple ideas to the future of VR! Im very excited to be a part of the evolution of virtual realitywith you!
can't say i'm surprised by any of this. If it were me, i'd stop focusing on Ubislop trash, I can see them as pulling this kind of stuff at any time. Also their games are shit lately.
I played kcd2 last night with the mod. Like bring in 2035 and stepping into the game. I guess game devs want to keep creativity and innovation down. Wanting all monies and all credit. Jealous is lukeross and others get any creative credit for anything to do with their games. I've waited and wanted the just cause games ported to VR. I appreciate lukeross and have no problem paying or donating.
Just cause 2 would be absolutely glorious! I never got into jc3 for whatever reason. Just cause 2 I 100% many years ago. So many good memories of that game!
Seems like FB, Meta and Mark Zuckerberg are sorta abandoning VR. Instead of more innovating or planning on releasing another meta quest 4 or advanced PC VR unit. They want simpler ar convenient style glasses for young professionals. Even the big game devs are attacking lukeross. Looks like lukeross is getting frustrated and discouraged. Even abandoning his mod here. We'll see what the future has in store for VR. Hopefully not a full dropping or investing in VR and return back to 2d gaming. God has us and Jesus loves you !
nooo. Just bought Avatar today so I could play it with this mod : (
I heard the mod is ending. I read online lukeross is saying his customers are pirating his app now. Like a big war going on. I don't know what to believe. But I really appreciate lukeross and his work and contributions. Hope he doesn't stop working and releasing excellent VR mods. VR would really suck without lukeross and his work and mod.
Hasn't given up yet. He is taking a pause to see how things shake out for a bit and think things through. The future is uncertain, that is the situation for now.
I think an alternative is to offer the mod free but we can still financially contribute with donations. Have the faith, loyal contributions will provide. I'd probably give more than the usual $10.
Yeah, I would 100% sub to his Patreon or whatever in order to fund his coffee addiction if the mod was free.
It's ironic the game devs are coming after lukeross. Lukeross just makes the mod to appease to us. I don't think he even is much of a gamer. The gamers and supporters of the games are made to suffer...us,the players. We should personally contact these game devs. Requesting the mod be allowed and we prefer it. Perhaps boycott the game itself.
They are coming for him because according to their logic (I don't say I agree with this), he is making profit by exploiting their IP without their consent. It is true, that his software is useless without the games, so from that persppective I can see some merit in their approach.
The only way to get their attention is to call their bluff and take it to court. Then they will sit down and talk to you and settle and reach in agreement. Especially once they take the time to realize it is in their best financial interests.
If I were Luke I would have already consulted best lawyers who specialize in that kind of law. And I think you are too optmistic that he would won. Even it he is morally right, these corpos would hire the scummiest lawyers to destroy him, and losing such trial could mean financial ruin for Luke, so I can fully understand why he is not eager to take this to court. Especially an American court.
Dang. Literally planned on getting the config overhaul file today when I was at work and finally learned it existed, and just as I was about to clock out - ding! email from LukeRoss. So sad. I just wanted the config file! =( See ya in a month, my friend. I have a strong feeling things are gonna blow over and you'll be back to normal in no time.
In a fair, honest and not self centered greedy world. Rockstar and cyberpunk studio could and should of offered to pay Lukeross or buy his digital properties. Like the way FB bought oculus from lucky palmer. I believe they want to keep their software dumbed down. Keeping games like GTA 5 and cyberpuke on game consoles solely. So everyone poor enough to play will not feel they need a PC and VR to get into it. Seeing what potential and is possible on a PC...may keep those with limited funds and limited tech knowledge away. Sorry they were threatened by lukeross instead of uplifted and inspired. Just buy his creative digital properties or offer to buy him out. The VR experience is so fluid and comfortable. The game devs of these bigger companies miss it. Rockstar release LA Noir with limited levels but incorporating motion controls. Which isn't needed or necessary and it takes away by adding to many VR elements. We don't need motion controls but just the 6fof tracking.
Agreed 100% on the motion controls. It IS cool to swing a sword in Skyrim and aim guns in Fallout 4 with your actual hands/arms but I think I've found over time that it really just doesn't increase my immersion factor that much in the end, and honestly, after a day of work the last thing I want to do is that. VR with a traditional gamepad is the best.
Legally speaking, I don't see how this mod is any different from apps like Dolby Access and DTSx? Those are paid, they take the game's audio output and represent it in "spatial" mode. I don't see them getting sued for using other companies IP. The way I see it, this mod is similar, but uses the game engine's output and represents it in VR. Also, I hate all those social media articles telling not even half the story. Making it look like the mod creators made one mod, for one game and now they just sit around doing nothing, getting rich and they are so greedy that they don't want to give it away for free.
Luke, you are obviously smarting about this but CDPR have no choice here. If they allow you to monetize your mod in the way you do they are, by law, implicitly endorsing your mod and become responsible for your mod to work correctly with their work. They accept a legal liability for something they have no control over. This is why they suggested to you to allow people to use the mod for free and accept donations. That way they have no liability for your work. This is not CDPR preventing you from making money by modding the game it is a business having to protect themselves from potential lawsuits.
What’s the legal precedent to this? That’s like if an auto shop modify’s my Tacoma and it explodes then Toyota is liable. Gladly to support Luke Ross. Rather pay 10 bucks for a good mod than free for a lot of crap. Game genie is the perfect example of its legality. This guy is holding VR on his shoulders.
It's getting ridiculous , people are putting it on nexus now , the same people complaining vr is dead are actively trying to kill realvr
Doesn't it just blow your mind! 🤦♂️ Do you have a link? Never mind, looks like it was taken down pretty quickly. If you see one still up, drop a link here please.
I’m curious does CDPR have any rules that prevent people from charging for something that does not contain their ip but does modify the game? If so Dreampunk Reshade would be under a microscope right now as it’s a paid mod. I’m betting Luke wins this one in court if they don’t have a rule for this.
There are still paid mods like that for GTA V as well. They seem to enforce them arbitrarily. TOS and Copyright are not the same thing. They may align but they also don't sometimes. I'm not a lawyer not sure exactly how it all works 100%. I'm sure there are lawyers that don't even know how it works 100% 😉
just tried days gone with latest 27.1 and throwables are still unuseable and getting me killed constantly, is this the version that was supposed to fix this ? please help
I haven't tried it with DG yet. I'll do that later.
There is another bulletproof "safe" option for Luke's business model: Offer the whole framework of the REAL mod for patreon subscribers and the bridges to the games for free or for donations. The only downside for you, the people are paying only once for the framework.
Subscribed for moral support. I hope this unfortunate situation will not deter Luke from doing more VR mods.
I hope Luke will be able to leave all this behind and continue to keep VR gaming alive. On another note, I am dying to play Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate in VR. I hope this will be R.E.A.L. one day.
I’ve just read the latest Rock Paper Shotgun article about this https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/cyberpunk-2077-vr-modder-doesnt-rule-out-releasing-it-for-free-after-dmca-claims-there-was-no-negotiation-with-cd-projekt and it mentions LR saying the possibility of a free version of REAL for Cyberpunk might not be popular with those of use who have paid for it. Well, I’ve paid $80 in total in subs for REAL over the last 2.5 years or so, and I’d be more than happy if you released a Cyberpunk-specific version for free. I’d rather have it coming from you (and hopefully pulling a few more subs once people see how good REAL can be) than all the piracy I’m seeing going on.
He also said that he hasn't ruled it out yet. But he brings up the same point I have with the open pirating. If people have taken to openly sharing it on places like YouTube and Discord, it is a bit of a moot point now. Unless people expect him to continually support it for free. But then they will probably expect him to then update and support the other DMCA'd mods for free as well. I don't think it would honestly be as simple as just dropping the last working version of CP on GitHub and then moving on. People have already gone from that idea to further supporting the other ones as well. What if people they try to make a point that some of these other mods have been around for a long time, why can't they go free at some point too? It is designed to be an expanding collection that gains value over time, not loses it. There would probably be a bunch more negative comments when it breaks and Luke chooses not to update it anymore. I think if people would have handled this situation better, he may have been open to the idea of further support with donations for that one, but I don't know that. Because it just accepts the premise that CDPR is totally fine in making him put it up for free while they only benefit financially from it. Remember, they could easily just give him permission. Hasn't hurt them in all the years it has been around. Quite the opposite.
The devs want to ban the mod because there's a charge. Why don't they also go after those youtubers that make money sharing the video of gameplay ? Those YouTubers are making big money for streaming gameplay of GTA 5, rdr2 and cyberskunk.
He needs to get an IP lawyer and sue, he will win. Terms of service don't override copy right laws
Courage Luke! I'll never buy another game developed or published by CD Projekt again.
Hello, new here and it is my understanding all downloads have been locked? Anyway to get a copy of the mod for playing Avatar?
Just download the latest version, which is attached to this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/looking-down-at-148469092 It is one version that should work with all supported games. Man did you come at a tumultuous time. But welcome! Hope you enjoy the mod :)
I hope these games didn't get reported from imposters and spies amongst us. Meaning why would big game devs even care ? I thought cyberpunk was drm free...so I guess we don't really own the game. It would be sad if this lukeross mod got reported but its own community. Either by someone who won't pay or upset there's a charge. Sometime the origin of the trouble is within. Well, God sees the heart. Didn't we once have the mafia games too ? If it wasn't for the lukeross mod, I doubt I'd even be into vr still.
Just wanted to offer my support to Luke with all of the negativity out there. There is so little true AAA VR development happening in the world. The last thing we need to do is to attack the guy that's doing as much as anyone to give us these experiences. I'm sad that CDPR, who I respect a ton as a developer, feels that someone offering to enhance the experience their own game without altering the IP itself doesn't deserve to be paid for their work. The dev's work, when combined with what I paid Luke for, has provided maybe my all time favorite gaming experience. This isn't just a hobby for Luke, it's a livelihood. I can't even say how much I would've played through CP2077 without Luke's work. Luke didn't get a dime from me that should've gone to CDPR. I bought the game and the expansion from CDPR. I could understand if CDPR developed their own VR version, which would've put Luke in direct competition with them. If they're going to make Luke give his hard work away for free, then they should put their money where their mouth is and make their own VR version. They will not be doing so. This seems like such a symbiotic relationship that CDPR is ruining because someone in corporate made a pointless decision. To those telling Luke to just release it for free, I am completely opposed to that. That is a selfish demand from people who only care about themselves and their own experience, rather than the person who poured his time and effort into making this happen for all of us in the first place. Luke deserves to get paid for his work, just like the rest of people who work for a living.
I'm reading online news that the takedown is only because the vr mod isn't free and the maker of the VR mod won't release it for free. Again...if lukeross will just make a separate free mod available to let people play. Cyber, GTA 5 and rdr2. Stop charging for these games but make the mod available still free. Fine if you want to charge for the mod that covers other games. But to say it's the game developers which are tyrants and treating lawsuits. Rekease for free a separate mod to cover those games. Everyone will be happy and instead of being stubborn. Gamers miss out and the devs are made to look like the enemy.
Yeah, release the mod for free... and then who's gonna make VR mods full time ? He will look for a job and then show's over. Happy ?
'Cyberpunk 2077' VR Mod Taken Down Following Legal Complaint, But There May Still Be Hope https://share.google/SPI1rErdL9EdiXe7u
Why do these guys just keep dumping on VR? What you and other modders have done is the ONLY thing that has kept VR breathing these last few years!
can anyone hook me up with the most recent mod that has support for the removed game? I don't download every mod, only when there's one for a game I want to play. The most recent one I have was from back in October, V24.0
That should still work with the current version of CP. The last fix Luke had to do was back in June.
Would this free cp2077 be such a big deal? (I have it and it works), but would it really take days to release a free mod just for cp2077? You would win more than you would lose, but you can see that from the number of unsubscribes.
I'm amazed at the number of people who have sided with the huge corporation over this, as if their only motive for anything isn't profit. They won't give us a VR mode because as a niche, VR gamers aren't profitable so they do not care enough to make that happen. Luke has come along and, at no expense to them, opened up a whole (albeit small) new market to them. And they demand that it has to be free, even though they don't care enough to give us a free VR mode themselves. After replaying CP2077 through the mod, I then went and bought Phantom Liberty, and I've read others bought CP2077 due to the mod, so it's literally made CDPR money. If it's a full time job to add new games and update, then wtf shouldn't he expect to earn a living. I'll bet none of you demanding it should be free would consider working for free yourselves or have released free mods to the community. Everyone expects everything should be free when giving nothing back yourselves.
That’s what shocks me the most. So much bootlicking for our own IRL Arasaka corpo group. “I know it’s a lot of work, but you should have caved and gave it away for free and kept updating it for us!” Or other modders taking pot shots like there’s some moral high ground. These are the same people that would likely cry about artists not getting paid for their work, but it’s fine to not pay Luke since it’s some legal team bullying him. Really sad to see.
this is certainly unfortunate. I wonder if you could just make the mod free instead of scrapping it completely.
Although I love Luke Ross's mods. Releasing the RDR2, Cyberpunk, and BioShock VR mods would help reset the tone around all of this. VR modding has always been about sharing and accessibility. Keeping finished mods private feeds the idea that fan-made content is being paywalled, which is why press coverage has turned negative. The Cyberpunk DMCA shows legal risk exists either way, so transparency and free release is the safer path. BioShock wasn’t held back by choice, but because of 2K’s position, which most supporters understand. Patreon should continue as support for Luke’s work and skills, not as a gate to withheld mods. A Few free releases would protect his reputation and keep community support positive and sustainable.
Completely agree with this. I'm a patreon of NoClip. They publish whether I am or not. Better concept IMHO but both have their merits.
Luke, can you post here some management emails so we can tell them what we think about this ?!
Make GTA5 / RDR2 / Cyberpunk 2077 free. This entire debacle will end as soon as you do that.
Already done, is the debacle over? You can get the mod for GTA V an RDR2 for free and have been able to for a long time. People are passing around the framework in its entirety pretty much in the open right now. Are we all good now? Perhaps there are more expectations attached?
Many of us bought games due to the release of the VR mod and I don't understand CD projekt decision, company from my country where I live. They have very incompetent management and many key programmers have already left this company."
Just make GTA 5, rdr2 and cyberpuke free. That's the solution. It's fine you choose to charge and want money for your mod. But those devs don't want you charging...make a separate site or page or YouTube with link for GTA 5, rdr2 and cyberskunk. We've supported your work and mod. I thought the game devs were the bullies but they just want you to not charge for mods for their particular games. We both win if you'll release those mods for those particular games free of charge. Jesus loves you !
He doesn't want to mod to be free under any circumstances. CDPR not only told him he could keep the mod up if it were for free they also had no issue with him taking donations. I get the desire to make money off of your work but the attempt to spin it as a big bad corporation stepping on the little guy is such a disingenuous take. CDPR have clearly been aware of this mod for a long time and didn't make a move until now and clearly stated their reasoning, so this guy has already made a significant amount of money from this mod anyway.
Hello, I copied the Cyberpunk folder to another SSD (to avoid automatic updates), so logically I should be able to continue playing CP2077 in VR indefinitely ?
If it is for Steam, that is not entirely full proof but you should be able to update the game in your Steam folder and then replace with the copy and launch from the exe file. That has worked for me. There are other ways around it if that failed to work but they are a bit more complicated. The fullest proof way would be to grab it on GOG and then use their option of downloading it to a separate location to play offline. Same as RDR2, there will still be ways to get it to work regardless. The GOG route seems like the easiest overall solution long term.
hey brandon , consider locking the comments and migrate supporters to private discord for support and access for patreons , too many bad people here looking for any excuse to hurt the project , please consider
Don't think that is gonna happen :) People are upset, some of them will be supportive, some of them will not. Some people will wait and see what happens before forming conclusions. Some people will jump to their own conclusions that fit however they feel/think. The internet is going to internet :) No stopping that. Thank you though for trying to help :)
I’ve given Luke like 5x the money that I paid all of CD Projekt Red to play cyberpunk2077 in VR And he thinks he deserves to make more money per customer than the companies that actually make the games…? Look in a mirror brother. You’re being a pig.
disgusting comment, shame on you.
I used to work in the video game industry, making VR games. Started out as a QA member, then tried hard enough (and annoyed enough people:D), so I can start work as a Junior Game Designer. I had my talk with one of the CEO-s that "I know that I am now in this position, but I am with the company for long, give me more money please." He wanted to see some proof that I am able to pull my weight before giving me a raise. Fair enough. So I spoke with my Team Lead, who basicly said "Do whatever you want bro", and I started working. Since I worked as a QA for more than a year, I know our game, I know what was an issue, what was boring and now had the tools to improve on them. So I redesign two levels, made new map and game elements with the limited tools we had, wrote new detailed documents for requested features, while keeping touch with the QA team for constant feedbacks for my changes. During this time we started to work on our game PVP release too, and since I had the most experience with competitive shooters, I kind of took lead several aspect of the PVP mode. 3 months pass, we release a big update, with new trailer. At least half the trailer consist of the stuff I redesigned or invented. So after my probation period I go to the CEO, telling them that since there is this new trailer which showcases my work AND I work as kind of a project lead on the PVP release, I think I proved that I can pull my weight and give me the money. After a little pause, he said "Naaah, we don't think so. Maybe next time." After a year or a little more, I got laid off because there were some company politics and I was loud with my opinions. I was the youngest Game Designer there (everyone was at least 15-20 year older, which is great for experience, but bad for not understanding new trends). I tried to stand my ground telling them, that I am doing a lot of stuff and firing me will backfire on the project on a lot of areas, but they did not listen. After this the original release date was delayed several times, and more employee was fired. The company is half the size when I worked there. What I want to tell you all with this: Fighting the Corpos ain't worth it sadly. They will deny facts just to prove their right, and since they are led by humans(who are usually full of EGO), they will make mistakes. A lot. But they can't take away my achievemnts. This trailer will be on youtube forever, proving that I did my part and I was right. I did something amazing and I enjoyed doing it and other people had the chance to enjoy it too. Luke had a lot of work with these mods, taking down them completly would be a mistake I think, because it would nullify your work, while taking away the chance from the people to enjoy the fruit of your labor. Plenty of people said before me that you should make this mod free, then it would be legal. I think they are right. Who follows you, will still follow you, and your legacy will live under your name and banner, instead of some reddit site, with sketchy download links.
Upon reading more about this case: they gave you a way to keep it alive, and you decided to be a greedy little bish about it so I'm cancelling my patreon subscription to you and giving all your mods to anyone I know for free from now on (also there's places online to find all your mods immediately after release for free, I was choosing to pay you, but now you're being a dickhead so I'll just steal your mods from now on and tell everyone where to find them) you've made 20k a month for years, for modding these games - they're asking you to make ONE OF THEM free - for a game which is largely done updating and would be version locked really gross by CD Project Red, and by you - shows where your priorities are you greedy little proud man.
Dear Luke Ross, I am thankful for all your hard work and full time dedication. Without your contribution to VR modding, PCVR would not be where it is today. I hope you will continue your incredible endeavor and keep the PCVR community alive with your amazing VR mods. No matter how you decide to move forward, I will be a big supporter of your work. Thank you and please keep up the good work.
I think the biggest reason why they struck you was due to the pricing structure. I have always thought that 10 a month was outrageous. Which is why I have only done it twice just when I needed to update. I think it is weird that you have to pay the same prices for essentially a software update. I'm all for supporting a creator but the pricing structure just doesn't make sense to me at all. I think that is a big reason why they did this to you. That and because they are not making money from it. There is that angle. But the blame shift is a bit crazy. Just taking it off your platform completely for people who have spent years is crazy. The main reason why I never stayed subscribed. That might sound mean but look where we are. Idk you do you. But if you keep going at this rate, and you lose more and more games, will you lower the price?
Let me put it like this. Imagine if every time call of duty updates, you have to spend $60 to continue playing the game.
Luke buddy I've been paying you for months and months even though I haven't played vr in this time (which is why im so miffed I dont have the updated version lol). Consider letting CP be the sample to your amazing work. Whatever you decide, seeing BG3 was exciting. It was like losing a close friend and finding another. Sorry everyone's dogging on you for not making it free, we just all love your work and are a bit heartbroken as well.
You can’t just keep saying the blame is on them nobody is buying it everyone on the online discourse overwhelmingly agrees you should put it for free with donations especially after many of us have paid months if not years into your patreon. All respect lost.
You can just put it on patron no need for other sites , pin it , and done free demo for the real vr project , or leave Patreon and host your own site and servers
Well, crap. I just learned about this mod today from a YouTube video that said the CP2020 support hadn't been pulled yet, so I *just* joined and found that it's gone. I don't play any of the other games. $10 bucks wasted. Unsubscribing. But I want to be clear that I will HAPPILY donate another $10 if you release this for free but take donations. I truly hope you do so.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make cyberpunk a free version of the mod, I'd make a monthly tip donation to the mod just to keep playing it, I logged over 350 hours in cyberpunk vr and Its the greatest gaming experience ive ever had, nothing has even come close to the level of realism and immersivness that the mod gives you. It's not worth it to lose out on such an incredible mod, please dont let cyberpunk get taken away.
It still works! 😉
Man; at the very least, CP2077 is almost definitely finished updating, so the last few versions of the REAL mod should work just fine, indefinitely. As someone who's put in about 700 hours of CP2077 in VR, I honestly think that a standalone free CP2077 version would make an excellent "free trial" sort of thing, giving people interested in REAL a taste of what they could get on all the other games it covers. VorpX has done exactly that with their own free CP2077 VR injector, after all!
Hey Luke. Longtime subscriber here and I’ll reiterate what everyone else has said. Cyberpunk should be a separate, free mod with optional donations. I’d like to say the same for RDR2 so we can finally have an updated version. The mod will still be shared and pirated by others. I understand you work incredibly hard to make these mods, but your subscribers will still be here for your other releases (like BG3)
It is truly fascinating to me. How Luke can be seen as the bad guy for an arbitrary TOS violation, which is not actually breaking a law, but then people use that to justify actually committing full on piracy and redistribution of something they don't have permission to. It blows my mind. Especially in places that are supposed to be against piracy. Basically, labeling Luke as a "bad guy" so they can try to justify their own criminal behavior. Where did all that gamer community outrage at companies not letting us own and play games the way we want go!? "Get used to not owning your games!" "Ok Mr. CEO, that is fine :)" "Now get used to only using mods in the exact way we want you to!" "Ok Mr. CEO, you are totally right"
So they replied to my email, which was decent of them. "Hi Anton, Thank you for taking the time to reach out and share your thoughts on this. We have issued a DMCA strike for the “Cyberpunk VR” mod created by Luke Ross, as it was available as a paid mod (only accessible to Patreon subscribers). This directly violates our Fan Content Guidelines: we never allow monetization of our IP without our direct permission and/or an agreement in place. We were in touch with Luke last week and informed him that he needs to make it free for everyone (with optional donations) or remove it. We are big fans of mods to our games. Some of the work out there from the community has been nothing short of amazing, including Luke’s mod for Cyberpunk 2077. We’d be happy to see it return as a free release. However, making a profit from our IP, in any form, always requires permission from CD PROJEKT RED. For more information on this, you can find our full Fan Content Guidelines here: www.cdprojektred.com/fan-content. Kind regards, Laura" Kind of hard to be mad about that. Make it free or donation only, then they dont care. Rather than scrapping it, the idea of making the cyberpunk mod a standalone mod thats donation only would no doubt get you more money than just putting it to bed 🤔
It already represents a shared profit for them. You could easily read this as; "We could give him permission, but we don't want to." It is an arbitrary choice that they create and make. They can put whatever they want in their terms of service and then enforce it at their whim. It is just a contract that they make up. TOS's get broken by free mods pretty regularly. Are they going to go after any other paid mods? What about free mods that have advertisements that generate money off their IP? The mod software itself doesn't use their IP at all. It just has the ability to work with their IP. It boils down to; "That is how it is, because that is how we say it is."
Hey Luke, greetings ! I've been a long time patreon member for years just to fund your work on making RDR2 and Cyberpunk2077 a living VR reality. I think I'm not the only one to be that supportive. As it's gaining popularity, big companies will react to it. So, at this point, why not make CP2077 and RDR2 Real VR a separate branch with no paywall ? I think this is the smartest move to make, considering this has been the two main drives to your recognition. I bet this attitude will be rewarded by gratitude, respect, and continued financial support for your past and futur work... plus it is likely to help to grow the REAL VR player base further and drive fresh new gamers to your Patreon.
As others mentioned, you could extract the CP2077 mod from the rest and offer it for free, a lot if us would like to donate a fee for every update.
Thanks for all the time you put into the CP mod Luke - like many have said the main driver for my continued enjoyment of CP and the catalyst for maxing out on spec. Can I suggest you decouple the mod from the main branch and publish for non-members to access? I personally commit to maintaining my paid subscription on that basis, for as long as the mod is maintained. Hoping this approach can be considered a win-win for all.
No CP2077 Mod ? No Patreon - I suggest you get off patreon - add a donate button somewhere and see how that goes for the next little while . Being stubborn is just going to lose you consumers - I Play VR for 3 things - Elite Dangerous ( Native ) , Star Citizen ( Native ) and CP2077 ( Your Mod ) . Good luck anyway and I appreciate the effort you put into the CP2077 VR Mod .
can anyone who owns it possibly send it to me?
I bought cyberpunk on steam and this patreon just for this vr mod is there any way you can get it back or anything
I bought cyberpunk on steam just for this why now of all times
I mean, I can ask Luke for a Refund for you if you want?
OFFER IT FOR FREE, THEN TELL THEM TO EAT SHIT
Seems like a chunk of the VR community has decided to offer it for free themselves. Have had a few conversations with people about Pirating Lukes work. usually goes the same way. They say it is not pirating, I prove that it certainly is. Then, they just have say they don't care and are fine with it. Interesting logic, right? Luke is at fault for breaking a TOS so they can just pirate it online..... Hypocrisy at its finest.
Been enjoying lukes mods for several months now and it has been worth every penny, I have backed up all my current games to external drive so if they do update I can still play in VR, keep going luke and Brandon, don't let the evil corpos get you down.
Hi! If I wanted the 26.3 cyberpunk mod how would I be able to privately reach out you?
Same.
I’ve just been reading the CD Projekt Red forum where someone posted their rules, and honestly it really pissed me off. The idea that if you’re a fan and you make a mod, your time and skill should automatically be free is complete bullshit. That’s not how the real world works. You can care about something and still deserve to be paid for creating something of value. Pretending otherwise is just disconnected from reality. These kinds of rules don’t protect VR. They shrink it. They push creators out, kill momentum, and reduce the number of ways people can experience games. That doesn’t help players, it doesn’t help the medium, and it sure as hell doesn’t help VR grow. That’s why this whole thing feels wrong. some projects operate at a scale closer to full product development than a hobby tweak, and clearly deliver real value to players. From a player’s perspective, losing something valuable with no alternative offered still feels wrong. And VR is a different case altogether. Add-ons are optional. VR isn’t. Without the VR mod, there is no way to experience the game in VR at all.
Totally. Imagine a home developer building a house and then saying nobody can make modifications unless they do it for free! VR mods are particularly mind blowing on games that the developers have made no effort to support. They have completely abandoned an entire market segment that is small but growing. That might make sense if there were a large financial barrier, but clearly enabling basic VR support is not that expensive.
Welp... only reason I was here was for CP77. I don't play any of those other games. So farewell chooms. I can't justify paying anymore, especially since I'm unemployed.
Thanks for the support. Hopefully you find some other VR experiences to enjoy :)
This sucks. I only got Cyberpunk on PC explicitly for VR.
The previous versions of the mod still work if you downloaded any already. There just won't be updates is all
Worth a go i suppose. I sent them this. "Dear sir/madam, I just wanted to send an email regarding the recent cease and desist given to Luke Ross regarding his CyberPunk2077 VR mod. Respectfully, I struggle to see how his mod hurts your business interests. I, like many others, only play VR games. If it wasn't for Luke's mod I literally would not have purchased your game. Also, I dont mean this in an arrogant way, and its certainly not a challenge, but take2 took the same approach several years ago with Red Dead (another game i only bought for VR), but the game is still playable in VR with an older version of Luke's mod. People always find a way to make it work. I see no reason why CyberPunk would be any different. So it seems to me that all sending Ross the cease and desist achieves is it annoys some of your customer base, costs you potential future sales on this game and any others Luke very well may have modded for VR gamers like me, and the game will still be played in VR anyway. I cant actually see how it benefits your business. I send this as a genuine enquiry about your decision making, not just to moan about it, and any insight would be appreciated. Even better if you reconsider and realise that Luke isnt hinder your business, he's helping it. Ive literally got a list of games that Lukes mod works on, and I will likely end up purchasing a lot of them. Kind regards"
Their main site has different contact email addresses. I sent it to the business and the community ones
It's not a big problem for me, Luke. I had to change my name, but I've been with you for a long time now. They blocked RDR2..... (why don't they also block, for example, a certain site that SELLs mods, which are very nice by the way, but which heavily modify the visual appearance of GTAV?)? Screw them, I solved it another way. They don't want you to make money from your work for Cyberpunk? Screw them too... I'll manage another way! Keep it up, Luke, thanks to your work, all the problems in life, when I enter the worlds you've allowed us to explore, magically dissolve!
Yes, I believe there are still paid mods for GTA V as well as well as Cyberpunk.
There is a debate on official cdprojektred forum: https://forums.cdprojektred.com/index.php?threads/the-vr-mod-debate.11141852/#post-13853292
totally agreed in what you had to say mate, fair play!
Hey Luke and Brandon , you should consider releasing standalone cyberpunk vr mod for free on nexus or GitHub since it can't be here anymore, official release from you would be better than random people spreading it with possible viruses or god knows what
I was thinking this as well. Have one freebie that potential followers could try, with a high profile game like CP77. It gets around the hostile greedy corp issue, satisfies your client-base. Plus you've already done most of the work anyway. Just a thought.
Which Cyberpunk ver was compatible with V26_1_0 so I can LOCK my install down and NEVER update AGAIN
The current one :) 2.31
Damn that really sucks. I need to preserve the current working state of the game, cause I never want to play it "flat" again...
Bro, wtf! I haven’t played anything else! Oh well, I guess I can finally try Avatar. I’ve bought damn near every game you’ve announced support for, just couldn’t break free of Night City. Looks like the city broke free of me!
It still works! :)
Every single one of us should email cyberpunk corporate asking for our money back and tell them that we only bought the game because of this VR mod
They'll promptly respond with a message linking to their TOS that clearly states that *all mods are welcome unless they are behind a paywall*. I've gladly put almost $200 into the pocket of Luke because I love his work, but CDPR was explicitly clear about what is or isn't allowed, and charging money for mods within their ecosystem is against the TOS. If he makes the mod free, he can legally continue to work on the project. I'll continue to be a Patreon because I love these guys, but we should have all seen this coming, and it's not the fault of CDPR despite many jumping the gun and blaming them. We played a dangerous game, and this is the result.
How do I get 26.3.0 😭? This is what I get for procrastinating
... And I was waiting my new pc that I'll get in about two weeks partly for that. Damn.
If you downloaded the most recent version any time recently, you will still be able to use it in all likelihood.
But why dont make it free then?
Anyone who has downloaded version 26.1 anytime recently still has it :) There is no need to even release it for free right this second. Everyone who paid for it still has access to it. It doesn't just suddenly not work. All we know for now is that is no longer supported here and that any type of future support is uncertain at best.
For what it’s worth, I really do think the community should make its voice heard on this. contact.community@cdprojektred.com Ive sent mine. This mod added real value to CDPR. I bought Cyberpunk specifically because of VR, and for me it was one of the best full-length VR experiences available. It’s also hard to ignore how much this turned into pure revenue for CDPR. The amount of VR videos and coverage online acted as free advertising and clearly drove sales. I’m one of many people who wouldn’t have bought the game otherwise.
The only reason this mod is being killed is Luke’s own greed.
Please consider going open source with the CP2077, GTA5 and RDR2 mods and provide links to your preferred donation site. If you updated RDR2 and GTA5 to the latest AER2 version I would absolutely donate what ever you recommend for those mods.
Going the donation route for these games may be the answer! Yes, I would donate for those three games.
Can I play Cyberpunk 2077 in VR with v26_1_0?
Yeah, it's fantastic with 26.1 - that said, I'd still like 26.3 as it added some improved features (shooting from cars, etc).
Luke, I wanted to send you a message of support. Your work helped me immensely through the grieving of my mother. To me, what you do is true artistic work, and I’m proud to support your Patreon. I am fully satisfied with your work and deeply grateful for what you bring. Stay strong — you’re not alone.
maaannn thats the whole reason i subscribed in the first place
Well, if you grabbed version 26.1 it would still work.
Go open source and just get donations like preydog. I dont want to be paying 15$ a month plus get halfway through an 80$ game for the mod to just be removed. This is seriously making me consider staying subbed although id donate the same amount if you just went open source so we would have to deal with this... i support preydogs donations and I would you but this is ridiculous. Publishers are all gonan go after you if even cdproject red is who is very fine with mods if they are free...
We have you back luke
So the game wont work with the older versions? Gta 5 is still playable with workarounds. This is scaring me about staying in this community. Atleast UEVR is open source makes it alot harder for anyone to go after preydog as its just modifying unrealengine which they all chose to use. Its only really epic that could do anythung but he isnt charging for it so thats were this is coming from. If there isnt a free open source version of any games they make you stop updating I may have to unsub
Unless a company is working on their own vr implementation, its def an idiotic move. What about the money made from unit sales from people who bought just because it could be played in vr? Absolute cockery! The corporate world has gone bat shit crazy. Like cdpr is missing out on something? Like what? A chance to be aholes? Well cdpr you lost a lot of people's respect with this utter bs move! Greedy jealous pos! C old hearted D elusional P ricks R aping gamers fun.
Yet here you are, paying him money so you can talk shit about him? Gtfo! You may think his time and effort to provide vr for non vr games is not worth paying for, though I disagree. It is his choice to charge or not and if you don't like it, then you know where the exit door is. He has created a tool that enhances a products capabilities whilst retaining the originals order, generating sales for the products supported and here you are complaining like a spoilt corpo about a measly 10 bucks ever time you want an update to his realvr? What? Should he pay them royalties on top of the extra profit he is making them? You need to stfu!
So they gave you the option to make the mod free and you declined? Bit slimy. Appreciate all the work you do but you’re still charging for assets that isn’t yours. Just make the Cyberpunk and GTA mod free. We all still pay for your other mod. Seems like you’re just spitting your dummy out .
Add the RDR2 mod to that list too, although I can still play it with version 5.0 of the mod. It would be great to bring it up to the standards of the others. I'd still pay to keep the new games coming and definitely donate to get the RDR2 and GTA5 mods upgraded to the latest AER2 alongside updates to CP2077.
Let's instead all sub up to 20 bucks/month to show support.
Here the guy who chose The Devil ending
This is tough. In an already tough beginning for the year, I also now lose one of my true pass times (though admittedly not immediately).. Anyway, what else can I say except Thank you for your service Luke. It's been a wild ride. I remember first trying the mod back when I had my 2070 super without any AER. Even back then it was like a dream come true. I remember I would occasionally crank the ppd to like 40 just to get a glimpse of what the game would look like at higher fidelity. It was the best looking slideshow I ever saw. Fast forward and I have an upgraded system now and have played through the game in VR about 25+ times now (on run 26), and i'm playing at smoothly at those same crazy resolutions. I regret taking my sub for granted and not downloading the 26.3 release when I had the chance, but that's life I guess. Have been a bit busy to check back. Again, thanks for all the work you've put into the mod for all these years when nobody else seemed to even try. Thank you for the many VR memories I've had in Night City...and thank you for the many other titles you pour your heart into.
Should we try to make a petition altogether to CDPR to stop 🛑 going after Luke - as we are the community? Or is this hopeless 😔
Genuinely devastated by this. Thank you for making it available while it lasted Luke, you gave me my favorite gaming experience ever. And you can add me to the list of people who never would have bought CP2077 without this mod. I was really looking forward to the eventual sequel, but if CDPR hasn’t changed their minds by 2032 or whenever, I won’t be buying it.
Amen. Cyberpunk 2077 VR is what I dreamed gaming would be like when I first player CyberMage: Darklight Awakening in 1995.
This is indeed infuriating. AND extra depressing, since I am spoiled by VR now and cannot enjoy games in flatscreen anymore. So I guess my time with this game I paid for and thoroughly, almost obsessively enjoyed is now over, too. *Mick Manchester, where you at??* Well... Thank you, Luke. Thank you for allowing me to experience Night City in a way I never could in flatscreen. I was at the end of my second playthrough, too - all primed and ready to actually get the Panam/Aldecados ending this time. Never forget, guys: millions have played CP2077 and experienced the game in unsatisfying flatscreen, exactly as intended, but, thanks to Luke, we were THERE.
Well.... you still have Girlz :)
Luke, thanks for putting in the long good fight on this. VR would genuinely be in a worse state without your efforts and the corpo suit action to takedown the 2077 mod is hugely ironic. This stings, but BG3 being the next mod is hugely exciting for me. Can't wait for the next one!!
EDIT: Solved. (see replies) Absolutely excellent mindblowing VR-mod work, btw! ------------------- Hello, reaching out hoping to get a bit of support. I was running one of the VR mods, when I tried to hit winkey/alt+f4/ctrl+alt+del... Once I finally got out of the application, my desktop is having strong visual glitches i.e. Lockscreen is Grey, Wallpaper is missing, Windows are outlined yellow, light blue highlights on browser tabs, weird white outlines around things. I have tried a clean install of Nvidia drivers. Also ran DISM + SFC scans with no luck. Is this something that you've had dealt with & resolved before? Any advice would help! Thank you.
Press Win + I Go to Accessibility Open Contrast themes Make sure it is set to None Apply, then sign out and back in
This is gut-wrenching. I'm not exaggerating whatsoever when I say that Cyberpunk 2077 in VR with R.E.A.L. Mod is easily the most immersive and breathtaking gaming experience I've ever had in my life. It got me through an extremely rough patch of my life, and I've spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours in it throughout the years. To this day, I still marvel at the fact that one man did all of this. It's savant-like work. LukeRoss, I'm pleading with you, man: don't drop support for it. If a free release of the Cyberpunk portion of R.E.A.L. Mod would save it, then please, please let it happen. I'm not sure about the logistics of whether donations are allowed or not in situations like this, but I'm sure a sizable portion of the community would be open to donate in lieu of paying for the mod if given the opportunity. All I know is that if it's a choice between letting a whole new audience people experience your incredible work or deleting it altogether due to lack of profit, then there's no question of which choice is most punk. Power to the people, man. 🤘 Either way, no matter how it turns out, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Cyberpunk VR changed my life, and I'm grateful to you for all the work you put in to let me experience it. Again, thank you.
Release a free add-on to your mod which adds support for CyberPunk. Then you get to keep publishing the mod, but don't make money off any CDPR products.
Please consider this Luke. Having it as a free single game fork of your main mod will get you a lot of conversions when they see how amazing the game feels to play in VR and they see the list of games supported by your patreon version 🙏🙏🙏
BG3 😳
Have they even tried the mod??
CDPR are not banning the mod, they simply don't want him paywalling it. If he kept it free and donation-based, there wouldn't be any issues, so don't rush to blame CDPR, their ToS are very clear on that.
Lukes VR mod was the ONLY reason i bought CP2077! CDPR shoud pay him for that! Corpo fckrs 🤬
Same here
Luke, put the Cyberpunk VR mod to good use, turn it into a demo of your amazing abilities, let more gamers experience it, keep developing it and turn it into a major win for the gaming community. Paywall the other mods, but keep this one free as a gesture of good will to show that you are the one who actually cares about the gamers, those who paid you all this time. If you decide not to do this and instead just kill it, then it's easy to see who's the real "greedy corp" here.
To all upset with this move. If you want to freeze Steam from updating the game CXL'ing RealVR mod all you need to do is make the appmanifest_1091500.acf file in steamapps folder "Read Only". this will prevent Steam from updating the game.
Would this technique work for all games in Steam? Unless there are bug fixes or additional story content, I wouldn't want to update any of my games if it means breaking the mod.
That is so fucked up. We need to shame CDPR on every social media site.
They think this way: I lose money if I invest in VR; VR doesn't pay me to improve their situation; there's someone who makes a little money, although obviously, and there's no conclusive data to prove they're responsible for selling more copies (although a video of Ace Combat 7 with a mod recently modded, followed by news that they've sold over 7 million copies—a 2019 game, coincidence? No, it's the boost from the mod that they didn't even expect). In short, it's the thinking of people totally obsessed with money and greedy, who leave everything to lawyers to scrape together a few coins, without any kind of vision for the future.
This is beyond sad, it tells us that CD projekt’s management doesn’t understand their own game, those corpo rats! But in a more constructive note, I guess 26.3.0 was the golden version, for anyone who did download it, should keep it save and backed up. There’s also a process on steam to roll back to the current version of Cyberpunk 2077 in case it auto updates, we just need to find the specific repo. I wonder if anyone could post the process. I’ve been a subscriber of Luke Ross for a couple of years now, it was really amazing to see how the mod grew. Even though my main reason for subscribing was for Cyberpunk 2077, I will be continuing to subscribe to support Luke’s efforts because I think VR conversion is a preem endeavour. To Luke: hang in there, choom!
Ross my man. I wrote a letter to CDPR and explained how I felt about this move. I told them the only reasons I had 1000s of hours in game was because of your VR mod. I also stated I was freezing the game in its current state to preserve your mod. I have been your Patreon for a few yours now. Thank you for all your work and quick updates.
Where did you send the letter to? Could you post the email address so we can all write to them?
Eat the lawyers!
Ewww, no thank you! I'd need some serious condiments to even consider it.
I feel like Ive been sucker punched. Imagine how Luke feels
It's hearth breaking for us all as a niche community. I hope it will only make him stronger.
When this patreon thing started i remember i've read that your thoughts was to release mods for free after a "while". It's never happened and we all know that getting paid for a mod is against ALL TOS for every game so is just a matter of time and all devs will issue a dmca. You have to decide if you are willing to keep it the way it is right now and risk other takedowns or change it...
Use an alter ego and post it somewhere else under a different name, use a VPN every time with the alter ego. Corpo problems solved, because hey...you did comply yourself....that other guy?....nobody knows who that guy is, can't help ya cd project red
First GTA and now CyberPunk. Thanks Ross, you made the game better.
Hi Luke, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your incredible work. To be honest, I purchased many titles, including Cyberpunk 2077, specifically because of your VR mods. Without your work, I would have never spent a single cent on these games. It's a shame that CDPR doesn't see this added value. If the 'paywall' is the main issue for their legal department, have you considered releasing the mod for free to satisfy their 'corpo logic', while keeping optional support through PayPal, 'Buy Me a Coffee', or general donations? That way, the mod is technically free, and we can still show our gratitude financially.
the mod will still work, make copies of the mod folder just in case they shut Luke down completely
I've been your subscriber for several months just because of CP2077. I don't have a graphic card that is good enough for VR yet, and was waiting until I can buy 5090 (they aren't available in my country currently), so I paused my subscription until it happens. I subbed now again just to be able to comment! Please don't take it down. If it's at all possible, post it separately for free! We will donate you through the services like buy me a coffee or whatever, and possibly even more people will learn about your work this way.
What video card do you have? I was able to rock it with a 2080 Super
Have you asked them if you could sell the mod separately and share part of the profits with them? Have you asked them if they'd be interested in integrating your code into theirs so it supports vr natively? I'd pay considerably if it was a separate purchase. Or else please release a free version. I'll keep paying for your patreon - but the only reason I subscribe is for Cyberpunk 2077 VR. And I haven't even had a chance to use it yet - been paying for your patreon to support the vr industry and so when some day I have the time, I can play CP 2077 in vr. Now I can't even get the last version that supports CP 2077 vr that I paid for already via Patreon cause the post was taken down. Stuck with an old version of vr now cause of all of this. On another hand, I'm considering emailing project reds media and telling them I will be boycotting all their games. If it wasn't for your VR mods - there'd be way less interest in CDPRs games, period.
So sad. I bought the PC version specifically to play in VR. That originally led me to Luke.
I'm in some ways very surprised they went down that route. It's a real shame because this very game is the reason I'm here and honestly...this last week! I've fallen into the VR blackhole and I'm just amazed by it all and enjoying every minute of the learn curve on the more technical side of things EVEN though I haven't had a chance to try the CB2077 mod out because sadly I can't get it to work past the main menu haha. All in due time I suppose. Now BG3 I'm interested in seeing how well that works out! Ive seen some top down games done, but they're mostly been UIX changes. Keep up all the amazing work you do. Things like this is how stuff advances and gains traction and EVENTUALLY larger companies smell the money and just go down that route. Its a double edge sword so enjoy the journey regardless of how it feels and where it takes us. :D
I need to disable the game's automatic update (in stem, it should only update when I start it) and then launch it strictly with the exe.
Steam will make you update the game either way. Easiest solution is to copy and paste the game somewhere else before you update it. Then let Steam update the original version. Then, drop the copy you made into the Steam Games folder where the updated version is and chose to replace it with the copy you made. Steam will treat it as updated still and you will be able to play the game version you made a copy of. You can just keep a copy of the current game folder somewhere and use it to replace the updated version any time there is an update. That seems like the easiest way to go about it for Steam. Only downside is taking up the extra space.
@Luke As CDPR rules say mods must be free, could you make a version of your mod only containing 2077, and share it for free? It would also serve as a very powerful advert for your paid version.
wow, that would be a great idea. please... at least consider it.
Absolutely gutted. I literally spent almost 7k to buy a new PC to play Cyberpunk 2077 VR. Thankfully it's in a nearly flawless, perfect state for VR. I will continue to play it as is. You've done amazing work, sir. Thanks for all your time and effort.
me too. cyberpunk in realvr is THE reason I'm back to gaming and this reentry cost me about 5K usd. Luke Ross is an absolute genius. they should be hiring him to do the job instead of fighting him, the idiots.
I literally built a high end gaming pc just to play Cyberpunk 2077 in vr and I subscribed here yesterday. Please please please release the most recent cyberpunk mod for "free" next to a suggested donation amount. I will not hesitate to pay whatever you're asking. Also i would like to mention that I will stay subscribed here to support what you do but i mainly just had interest in cyberpunk 2077.
me too, though I already finished with it after 200+ unbelievable hours. Luke Ross is a MF genius. you can get one of the recent versions that do support it.
Please don't let your years of work on Cyberpunk get destroyed. Many of us did massive PC upgrades at least in part to play the mod. Is there no path to having a parallel repository for a version of the mod that only supports the taken down games, exists outside of the paywall, but allows for donations? Edit: just to clarify -- I'd never ask nor expect you to work for free, but hoping the ongoing subs for all other games help subsidize at least keeping a branch of the mod functional and available, even if no major updates will ever come again. We truly love (and are invested in) the mod and simply want a longterm solution.
great idea. if it is drowned unnoticed here because of all the comments post it again and again please.
We should have at least got a "wink wink" to download this version now for "reasons". It's so annoying when I was going to download this yesterday and I was like eh I'll do it tomorrow and now I'm kicking myself.
Same just subscribed yesterday got lazy and said i would install today and this happens lmao
Thank you for this mod. I never minded paying for it, given the list of supported games. I will be sad that there will be no future support for Cyberpunk 2077, but I consider the experience more than worth what I paid you for the access. I will not undermine the personal effort and time you put into the REALmod, and if such a thing were easy to do, it would be available for free in the mod market. You are appreciated, Luke.
This is terrible news, the greatest VR game i have ever played is coming to an end :( suffice to say, if a backend way to continue playing it, i will be doing it
Someone needs to just comeout with a stage name like how poets hide their real names and release all the mods secretley that have been shut down just to buck the system. If i knew how to make these lol i would have secret updates for rdr2 vr anonymously hitting the internet. Like a force they can't stop. Especially when its over greed. They dont care about gamers. Scumbags.
Maybe this is bad form but I dont know how else to inquire ... Does anyone have a copy of REAL_mod_by_LukeRoss_v26_3_0.zip you can send me. I do not see anyway to DM any other members ..
Please also to me...I missed 26_3
I am very curios how the BG3 mod will be and look like, because you have never made an isometric view game before.
sad news, but hey... BG3! Very excite
Dear LukeRoss, thank you so much for your tenacious efforts that allow vr-enthusiasts like me to enjoy games that are actually worth your precious time. As long as you keep up that great work, I will keep supporting you financially. Yeah it's a pity that there's not going to be any more Cyberpunk support, but let's be honest - it's not the best game in your portfolio, far from it. Cheers!
BURN CORPO SHIT!!!
This sucks! Your Cyberpunk mod was my gateway into VR. It led me to buy two headsets and a 5090 just to get the best experience possible. I'm resubbing to show my appreciation—thanks for being the reason I started this VR journey!
Same on all accounts, nearly identical to all the things I’ve done. I will not be updating Cyberpunk anymore and will keep a copy of that LR mod in its own special place.
I've subscribed since 11.1 and catalogued every copy just in case this happened but my subscription briefly ran out over the holidays. Please give us long-term supporters a way to access the "final version" before it goes into the dust bin.
I literally just re-subbed this morning, 35min after the announcement post, hoping to snag the last version before he takes it down :(
As someone else here said - just release it for free (if that is allowed). Job is done anyway, so use it to your advantage. Let people taste what you offer and be back for more. The only alternative is Vorpx, but this works like shit.. I spent more time tweaking the settings instead of playing the game, while your mod was just plug and play for me. Show it to people. Don’t put your hard work into the drawer
Hi Luke and Brandon! I am really sorry of that situation… like most of us I began your mod especially for cyberpunk… so it is really sad… but please, really please, don’t stop making your magic cause, as you said before, numerous AAA vr studios are shutting down and you are a god of VR. You are the reason why VR won’t be dead! I Will support you whatever it takes! But never stop!
BD3 in VR?? That sounds amazing! I'm assuming it's still overhead view in 3d and not first person...
I would have never expected CD Project Red to be the company going hand in hand with take 2. Absolute shame.
How do you stop Steam from automatically updating Cyperpunk? I don't want any new updates to screw up the final version I have?
You can't completely stop it, but after the next update, you can select the old versions under Properties -> Betas in Steam. The installed mods should normaly still work after the up- and downgrade.
Fucking corpo bullshit. Now I totally get why Johnny bombed Arasaka Tower. I've been involved in VR since the CV1 days and, early on, the premier VR "experience" was Lone Echo. The crown was then passed to Half Life Alyx, but then something remarkable happened - Alyx was surpassed by a mod: the Luke Ross Cyberpunk mod. This game, with this mod, became the king of VR experiences (in my view of course). New players are now losing the ability to experience Night City in all its 3D verticality glory, which really sucks. There's nothing like it. It sounds like mod version 26.3 was the final one that supported CP2077 so, purely hypothetically, where would one now obtain it...?
I feel like CD project has a clear win with this one, those of you that are mad apparently have never read a TOS. In CD project red case, Its like right there, there isnt even any jargon. Glad it existed as long as it did but the path forward is as clear as glass. Abandoning it would be the only way to loose.
annoying. finally bought CP77 over the holidays to play in VR. tried the free VX mod first, but it was not for me. didn't think i'd like this mod with head aiming/controller either, but now i'm over 100hrs in (exclusively VR) and it has been excellent. did not buy the DT DLC hoping to revisit it with motion controls some day ... but now it appears unlikely i'll ever purchase that. Thanks for the mod, i would have never purchased or played otherwise
I'm presuming my old version of the mod will still work as long as i don't update Cyberpunk?
Yes, as long as Cyberpunk remains at version 2.31, the current versions should work. And even then, reverting to older versions is relatively easy, at least on Steam.
That sucks. Cyberpunk 2077 was the reason to get this mod way back then when it was added in the very firsts version that supported that game. If they had an issue for not beeing free, maybe just make it's own version that only works with Cyberpunk 2077?
That's a shame! I expected there would be a few more takedowns from development studios over time, but I absolutely didn't expect it from CDPR. I agree with the comments here that you should make the latest version of your Cyberpunk 2077 mod available for free as promotion, so your hard work wasn't for nothing. Perhaps through a free tier here on Patreon, and if people want the other games, they will upgrade their membership.
I mean you make plenty of money off the other stuff why not just do this one for free and offer to work with them to make it legit or something idk. Do it for us?
Can u post here their email addresses - preferably of the ceo or managers in there so we can let these idiots know what we think about that move ?
Both good and bad idea. Some will take it way too far and call them slurs or tell them to kill themselves due to how some people handle certain situations But there are the few who will actually be professional and proudly speak their minds
Instead of TW4 we will play The Blood of Dawnwalker !!!!!!
TW4 will be UE5 so -> UEVR and therefore most likely playable in VR.
Welp. Unfortunately the only reason I was still subbed was for cyberpunk :( sorry Luke. Fuck greedy corpos
At least we have baldurs gate 3 now. As Luke once said do not wait play these games for we do not know when they might be taken off the list. Quick question tho, by chance will Luke do anything with the Camera in BG3 to give it a first person option?
Hi, I think you should change strategy. If publishers are giving you trouble, it’s because you announce a patch for a specific game, and therefore you’re making money on their game. I think you should continue with a multi-game software/patch instead. That way, you don’t explicitly name a specific game (just like UEVR does), and then let users (maybe via a forum or Discord) discuss the software/patch compatibility with different games. This way, you’re just making a multi-game tool, and you rely on a kind of “compatibility uncertainty”. It separates you from the publisher. Basically, it’s not your fault if it works with a given game, even if, in reality, it kind of is. I see it like vehicle equipment: there’s the official brand, and then there are compatible third-party brands. For example, car manufacturers can’t forbid “tuning” car radios, which are aftermarket products compatible with their vehicles. It might be worth finding a specialized lawyer to see how to structure all of this legally.
For what it’s worth, here’s what I’ve just emailed to contact.community@cdprojektred.com - “ Dear CDPR, I bought your game (via GOG) in Nov 2022 because I found out about the Luke Ross VR mod. I bought the Phantom Liberty DLC because I wanted more Cyberpunk VR. I have spent several hundred hours in your amazing game, all in VR. The only reason I bought your game is due to the VR mod. Your action in forcing the removal of Cyberpunk from a VR viewer app that works with 40 other games, frankly, sucks. I thought you weren’t the corpos. I was wrong. Yours, M. Taylor (ex-CDPR customer)”
I sent one too
I'm Polish and I apologize for CD PROJECT... They're f#$king w4nkers !!
Luke should make this mod free and continue to support it as an act of good will toward all of us patrons who truly need it. It is the right thing to do in this case as I am sure many of you will agree. It would be good way to attract more patrons surely, and show what a true gamer Luke is, unlike those CORPO gonks, come Luke step and be the daddy we all need...
It is disappointing that this TakeDown on the Cyberpunk VR Mod has happened. It trivialises all the hard work done in creating it and it is a fantastic piece of work. However, perhaps a tiny silver lining is that CDPR may be indeed working on their own full VR conversion, with true hand controls etc. The MOD proves that it's possible and makes an already great game, an absolute grandmaster of immersion.
This is truly disappointing and a huge blow to Luke for which im very sorry for. I have no doubt in my mind that Larian will embrace the new release as they care more for their community.
wow. I am sincerely disappointd by CD PROJEKT!
Dear Luke! Add the mod to cp2077 for free (release one that only includes it), upload it to some free file sharing site, put a link here, and the problem is solved. I understand that you can't charge for carving this, but for other things, payments will be made anyway. If someone only uses this mod and doesn't pay the monthly fee, then blame yourself.
I only bought Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2022 because I found out about the LR VR mod. I bought the Phantom Liberty DLC because I wanted more Cyberpunk VR. I’ve never played Cyberpunk in flatscreen. This action by CDPR sucks.
Same here... :/
I will never forgive them. That was the ONLY GAME I PLAYED IN VR ANYMORE!!!!! FUCKING GREEEDEEEEDDDEEDDDD
So does this mean we can't play CP 2077 in VR anymore? What is we have an older version of the mod?
You will need to roll back the CP2077 version as well. Don't worry. I am sure that a step by step guide on doing so will be posted (by me if no one else) once this becomes necessary.
This really sucks. I was watching Beardo Bengo last night talking about Meta shutting down major VR studios, which is pretty messed up. But while watching it, my thought was: we still have people like Luke Ross and other modders. To me, that’s VR. That’s why I support LR. I genuinely believe modders like him deserve support for the work they do and the experiences they make possible. For me, this was a main reason, this wasn’t a novelty mod. It was one of the best full-length VR experiences available. Mods like Cyberpunk in VR are exactly why people bother.Exactly why we spend money building powerful PCs. Exactly why we stick with VR even when it’s frustrating.
I DONT PLAY ANYTHING BUT THESE LR MODS! THIS IS 100%, SO FULL OF RAGE FOR THE GREED. This is going to end my hobby. It's such fucking shit.
Fuck this. Fuck that. Fuck them. Fuck it. Suggested action's every person here or involved with any other mod should take. 1, Email contact.community@cdprojektred.com explaining that in light of their anti community, anti modding, anti consumer BS, I (Your name here) swear to never purchase another CD Project red game until their attitude changes. 2, Go review bomb the fuck out of Cyberpunk. Get all your friends to go do the same. Lets see how they like their reviews going from "Very Positive" down and down.
Done and done. Thanks for that email address.
Oh for the pete's sakes. The two games I use your mods are GTAV and CP. Thank you corpo overlords. Now need to make sure I hang on to a fucking 200gb install because I can never update it again.
Such backwards thinking and a real shame. BG3 sounds amazing!
Well, I was considering buying the DLC for their game if I could play it in VR. Now I will just enjoy whatever other games I can in VR and no longer support this greedy company.
Do someone have the 26.3.0 of the R.E.A.L. VR Mod?
Your business model will need some tweaks to avoid this sort of thing in the future. Open sourcing portions (anything game/brand specific) of the R.E.A.L VR source code to github with your Patreon serving as way to get additional quality of life features via subscription. For example, don’t include DLSS features or FOV optimizations in the open-source version.
I’m not saying it’s ok, but if you split your mod into 2 mods, where 1 was free (Cyberpunk and GTA) and the rest was paywalled, I will continue to support you here and I’m sure many other patrons will as well. The free mod could even serve as an advertisement to the paid mod.
Totally agree, hope there is a workaround to beat this greedy lawyer
I’m honestly quite upset about this whole situation. You’ve always done an incredible job, and I genuinely think CDPR should be grateful rather than hostile. Speaking for myself, I bought Cyberpunk mainly because I wanted to experience it in VR thanks to your work—and the PC upgrade came with it. That alone says a lot about the impact you’ve had. Sorry if I ask this and I really don’t want to be indelicate, but despite CDPR’s shameful behavior, Cyberpunk remains one of my favorite games ever—and one of my son’s as well. For that reason, I was wondering whether the latest version of the mod will still be available, where it might be possible to download it, and how things will work going forward. Thank you again for everything you’ve done.
That's so shitty to hear. I'm sorry for all your work that went into this. This mod doesn't hurt their bottom line at all, how can they not see this? Thanks for all you do, I was lucky to get to enjoy Cyperpunk2077 in VR and it was a great experience. I hope other can enjoy it somehow too in the future.
That's shameful. Did they forgot where they were at the launch of the game and how people forgave them. They seem to don't understand that luck can turn and i hope they will get their karma on that. And I really wonder why they are not ok with the fact that you make a mod that will bring players who will never had play this game otherwise (like me). You can do it and made it available on internet for free, but you can't have it on your patreon, while it's not the only game and your patreon is not dedicated to them especially. I will never have imagined that they can be like that. Same on them
Damn CDPR and me for not downloading 26.3.0 before the take down.
This
Daaaaaaamn. This was what had just reinvigorated VR for me and I bought the Steam game & DLC only because of your mod! I already owned it all on Xbox too. Will have to see how I can stop any Steam updates to it then, cos without VR it’s junk to me now.
Wow, I wasn't interested in playing CP2077 on flat screen and bought it ONLY because your VR mod was available. Corporate suits are idiots.
Wrote a negative Steam Review and an E-Mail to legal and Support at CDPR This is the only thing we can do.
That's a real shame for a lot of gamers Luke but not your fault. I support you 100% mate.
I understand that making these mods is resource intensive work, but wouldn't it be better to offer the pack for free and ask the money separately? It would broaden the audience and would allow making it available for gta and now cp77 too.
I was thinking the same thing. Games of greedy devs like those ones should be posted in a free site which will be a demo to let people know what Luke is capable of. Let the games of shameful people be at least useful and be use as a way to promote your work.
You can release for free the REAL MOD but only with Cyberpunk, it would be good marketing for the patreon ;)
Wow. What a hot and cold thing. We lost CP77 and we get BG3. I wonder, do they crack down on donations also? Make it free with a link to donate...ah, but that doesn't protect you as a modder. Making a living would be harder, donations are voluntary. Alas, at what strange time did it come. I was planning to make a new VR CP77 run after I finish Hogwarts.. bummer. I am thankfull we still have the rest of the portfolio from you! Keep up the good work!
Keep up the good work Luke 💪🏽 People like you keep VR alive, thank you 🙏🏽
I would have thought of any studio doing this, but NOT CDPR. I don't want to believe it. I am glad I have saved the latest working mod and the latest state of the game CP2077 as offline installer in wise foresight. There souldn't be coming any important future updates for CP anyway
Frustrating. I am one of those people that only play games in VR and would never play or purchase a game flat. CDPR would not have sold me the copy of the game without your mod. I can't be the only one out there either!
Was not expecting this before bed. Fuck.
Damn, damn, damn. Well, I hate that this happened. I and I’m sure all of us appreciate what you did with Cyberpunk and all the other incredible mods. I’m with you 100%, you drove sales towards CDPR, not took from. And here I was replaying Cyberpunk again as an anniversary celebration of getting my gaming PC because Cyberpunk 2077 was the first game I played modded in VR. Thanks again Luke, I’m with you and Brandon until the end.
Are they fucking for real. It really shows how detached from reality they are when it comes to this shit.
Well as long as I don't update I should be ok right. But dam that is really unfortunate.
Good callout. Changing my settings now.
Bruh, this was my preferred way to play
I will never buy anything from CDPR again. Period. Anyone have a clue where I could find the latest removed version of the mod? … never mind, I don’t feel like playing the game anymore. FUCK CDPR!!
