Video tutorial: how to install the mod and optimize Indiana Jones for VR

In the video above, Brandon carefully goes through each step in the installation of the R.E.A.L. VR mod for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Remember that RealConfig cannot automatically set the graphics options for you in this title, since the game encrypts its user options files, so you might find the section from 1:00 to 5:00 particularly helpful to double check that you have set all the required options correctly.

From 5:00 to the end of the video there's an advanced deep dive for tinkerers, where Brandon talks about configuration files and presets and suggests ways to customize the engine's cvars so that you can achieve the best possible compromise between image quality and performance. This final section is not for the faint of heart!

Is there a specific version of the real vr mod that works best with Indiana Jones & the great circle? I use a 9070xt btw.

It was fixed in the latest versions. So just use that. Either public or EA version should work with Indy at this point

Hi,it looks like another update this week has broken the Indiana mod. I was really enjoying the game until this. Does Luke know? I was going to try downgrading using SteamDB but this does seem difficult for this game. If Luke can get the mod working again that would be excellent. Any idea of how long if he does?

Hello,I've installed the mod and changed all the required settings but when I play the game on my Metaquest 3 with a link cable it's very very pixellated. I've tried adjusting every setting but still the same. Is it my AMD 9070 gpu can't handle it or is there another problem? I don't have this problem using Vorpyx for this game but I would prefer to use Luke's mod. If you can help me I would very much appreciate it. Thank you

Have you tried lowering graphics settings and raising resolution using the PPD slider in the REAL overlay? What resolution does it say you are playing at there? It is a pretty heavy game on performance, especially with all the settings turned up. Have you tried using FSR? Optiscaler also works for this game, so you can use DL(S)SS which is a bonus. If you want to try and install that and get it working, let me know. I haven't heard back from a couple people yet on if they got the newest Optiscaler version working. You would try selecting Optiscaler.asi as the name when installing it and DLSS as the upscaler of course. Then, there is the matter of rendering mode. If you haven't tried different ones, that will be another thing to sort out. Go with either the default 1/3 or Legacy at first as they will give you better performance over 1/2. When you get things sorted with settings and resolution, rendering mode will be another piece of the puzzle to figuring out performance and your preference. 1/2 and 1/3 both add frame interpolation for added smoothness and fluidity to make it feel like you are playing at 2 or 3x the fps you are getting. They have to hit the refresh rate cap consistently to work correctly to do that. If you are set at 90hz, 1/2 would need a stable 90fps always and 1/3 would need 60fps always to function properly. 1/2 is heavier to run because of the higher cap, but you can move down to a lower refresh if your headset has it. Legacy is basic AER, so you will have motion jitter/reprojection because you are getting 45fps per eye at 90fps. Figuring out what rendering mode you prefer along with resolution and game settings is the best place to start. Mono is also a choice, but it has no Stereo 3d because it is the render from one eye, but it is there and some people prefer using it because it looks essentially perfect and you are still playing from the perspective of a camera inside the game. There are other depth cues besides stereo3d your brain uses and for some people those are picked up enough that they don't seem to notice a big difference.

Do I need to change my display settings for my monitor from 3840x2160 [Native] in order to get to 1920x1080 [Native] every time I run this game?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · December 18, 2025

No, I don't believe so. You should be able to leave your monitor as is and just set the resolution using the PPD slider in the REAL overlay. You can set the game to 1920x1080 in settings and have your monitor at 4k.

Hi, I just tried this mod and I have the same problem as Fatskee, the mod loads in the headset in a screen that follows my head. I tried the newest version and the one before of the mod and is the same all the time. I followed all the steps as the video but it does not work even trying several options in the mod. I play with a metaquest 3 through virtual desktop (openxr or steam vr none of them work well), windows 11, the last version of the game in steam and with the last nvidia drivers. Any idea how I can sort this out please? Thankss

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · July 7, 2025

You need to use VDXR and Oculus runtime if you are using Virtual Desktop. VDXR in the streamer app and then Oculus runtime in the REAL overlay, which it should default to with VDXR hopefully. If that doesn't work, please put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and post a link to it here. Screen shots of your in-game display and graphics settings would be great as well. Sometimes, restarting your system after installing helps too :)

Indiana Jones looks absolutely stunning in VR! However, on a max spec PC (5090+9800X3D+96GB RAM+PSVR2), I only get 60fps as shown in the MOD overlay no matter what VR mod resolution or video settings I set. It seems artificially limited to 60fps. I also see visual artifacts from the apparent motion interpolation but worse, I see depth artifacts on a lot of objects as if left and right for some things like parts of a face or jacket are reversed. Anyone else seeing similar issues? Would love to get this up to 90 FPS to reduce artifacts to a minimum.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 16, 2025

You are most likely using the default 1/3 rendering mode, which locks to 60fps if your HMD is set to 90hz. You can use 1/2 to still interpolate frames for added fluidity and smoothness or you can go with Legacy rendering mode with locks at 90 but doesn't have the interpolation. Legacy is the most performant of the Stereoscopic options but is less fluid and has motion jitter. Just look for the rendering mode dropdown in the main tab of the REAL overlay.

A
Arthur Pelio · May 4, 2025

Does the VR mod still work for you guys? I just tried launching the game and it’s barely moving. Getting like 0.5 fps. The game also forced me to do an update, so maybe they broke it.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 5, 2025

Still working for me. It was not starting for Luke after the previous update on a 5090 but started working again after the recent update, so not sure what happened there. If you are getting poor performance, double check your settings to make sure they didn't change somehow. You can rename dxgi.dll to dxgi_bak.dll to launch flat and adjust things outside of VR. Rename back to get into VR again.

C
Computing Boss · April 23, 2025

/Support Hello, I recently supported Luke Ross's Patreon so I could get the files for his mods to play cyberpunk in VR. I've downloaded version 19.0.2 and extracted it into the x64 folder of cyberpunk just like all the videos show but when I run the batch file, RealConfig, it tells me that mod installation files are not found and that when extracting the file the file structure must remain preserved. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and would appreciate any ideas people might have on what to do

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 26, 2025

Are you the same person that already figured this out? :) I can't remember. You double clicked the file instead of right clicking and running as admin?

Hello, for kingdom come. I just installed it with the new update 1.2 and the aiming doesn't follow gaze or my head instead it only moves with controller like normal 2d. Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 20, 2025

Make sure you are using the latest version of the mod and choose to delete settings after you update the files and run the config file again. Also, a good idea to double check that you're in game settings match the release post. Sometimes disabling Steam Input can help with controller issues, or disabling and then enabling it again. Usually, a good idea to post under a newer Patreon post so it is easily seen ;)

Unfortunately, this mod is unplayable for me. The camera movement makes me really sick. The map, the tasks, are either very close or they look double. The Avatar frontier of pandora mod is perfect, I put more than 180 hours into it, I was never sick, but this one finished me off after half an hour. Am I setting something wrong, or is this really such a sickening feeling for anyone else? If there is something wrong with the settings, please write it down, because this is the Luke Ross mod, it is a big disappointment compared to the others.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · March 11, 2025

There is a lot of head bob in this game, and I can also feel it after a while. When I was testing, I started feeling just a tad queasy after an hour or so. I looked it up and it bothers people flat as well. I don't know about maps or tasks looking doubled that sounds like a setup or settings issue possibly. Unless you mean the HUD and descriptions??? Things like the journal or physical maps you look down at, that is just where the game puts them, and you have to look forward somewhat and turn your head to see them properly unfortunately.

Here is a basic video for rolling back games on Steam in case you are still playing Indiana :) It is for CP but the process is basically the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5H-Lef0YS0 "Hi Brandon. Thank you very much. I have tried to downgrade the version to the one from December 17, which worked in VR. I used: "download_depot 2677660 2677661 2469472959766714306" found in SteamDB And then copied the content (overwriting) to the game folder. It didn't work at first. After continuing searching I also found this other one: "download_depot 2677660 2677662 682938447983161558" By downloading both I had copied into game folder to reverse the update, and the Ross Mod works again. I don't know if I have touched on any of the DLC (I have the Premium Edition version). I haven't gotten there yet :-) I'm putting it here in case anyone has the same problem as me."

I'm going to guess... no.... and no :) I don't think he can just simply teach you how to make the mods. Some of the stuff is just tedious repetitive work but it is a lot of reverse engineering and figuring things out each time also. There is a reason so few people are doing it 😂 But if you want to learn how to make mods, I wish you all the luck in the world man. We need more modders! Flat2VR discord would be a great place to find out specific things you would need to focus on learning. I think they actually have modding channels for that.

I really really really REALLY hope Luke is considering Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Nearly 20 hours in and this game would be so freaking good in VR. Just being able to wander around Bohemia and the gorgeous landscape would already be worth it. It also runs very well too on top, so it should run nice in VR too. Also with this game blowing up right now with 250k peak players I bet many would be super happy to see a VR mod. KDC1 already needed VR and now we have the chance again. PLEEEEEEASE :)

changing between legacy. 1/2 and 1/3 doesn't actually seem to change at all for me in cyberpunk currently. They all look the same.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · February 10, 2025

You are in VR??? 1/2 and 1/3 are similar but should be noticeably different from Legacy. If you move the camera with the first 2, there will be artifacts around objects, while Legacy will have motion jitter when things move past you, or you strafe. 1/3 and 1/2 generate extra frames to increase fluidity. Does fps change between 1/3 and Legacy as well as latency? What refresh is your headset set to? What headset and how is it connected?

Hi, Brandon may I asked a hardware question. As it seems unlikely I'll upgrade from my 4090 to a 5090, is it worth upgrading from my AMD Ryzen 9 7900X to AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D for Luke mods?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · February 6, 2025

Not in any real sense. You could possibly see better performance if you are using DLSS pretty heavily, but I actually don't know how much if any. At very high resolutions, you will mostly not get much more performance. Possibly a few frames in some titles. I made that switch already and I can't say I notice any big difference. I haven't gone back and forth and tested to see for sure. It could improve your fps lows which may mean less stuttering and smoother performance in some games where older CPUs may struggle but I haven't really tested that either. I do have frequent freezes in Elden Ring after switching to the 9800x3d, but I haven't figured out if it is CPU related or not. Haven't had any other noticeable issues after switching. So, no major benefit really. You are not missing out in any big way if you hold out for the next gen on either your GPU or CPU really :)

Hi, I installed the mod as instructed in the video but i have a black border around my view, is this a setting i did wrong please? I have a 4090 card and should not have issues. When I apply the settings as in the video and install the vr mod afterwards the game crashes after klicking on it. When i later start in Steam i get asked to reset to standard settings yes or no. Not sure what i did wrong?

D
D S · February 6, 2025

If the black bars are constant even when you aren't moving your head ad its the Indy game in particular, make sure you didn't let the system "re-choose" your resolution. It really has to be set to 1080p before you run the realvr.bat Also drag the slider for reduced shaking to the minimum as that causes the black edges to show for longer when they do show.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · February 5, 2025

I imagine so. It took them quite a while to mod Crysis I believe. So wouldn't count on them putting anything out soon. If you mean, could Luke mod it, probably :) Again, wouldn't count on it anytime soon. I think Spidey 2 is far more likely. He has a back log of a few games he was going to do though. Far Cry 3, Watch Dogs 3, Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster. You just never know with this guy though :)

A
Alessandro D'Amico · February 4, 2025

You have to clarify for me, which is the best thing and which is the worst thing between these three options in terms of quality and not fluidity!? Plz! - 1/2 - 1/3 - Legacy 🤞

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · February 4, 2025

Legacy is easier on performance because the other two are generating extra frames. It will have motion jitter when things move sideways or past you, but it also isn't as sensitive to performance drops. So, if you have a solid 90fps most of the time with small frequent dips, it is not as big a deal as if you have dips with 1/2 or 1/3. 1/3 is easier to run than 1/2 because it caps at a lower fps than 1/2. While 1/2 is the hardest on performance because of the higher fps cap over 1/3 but also has the least amount of motion artifacts and trails of the AER V2 methods. So, if you just want Stereoscopic 3d and the highest performance you can push, Legacy is your answer. If you are really used to the motion jitter and it doesn't bother you, you can even go down to 70fps and it still feels fine to me. I have been using it for years though, so my brain is very used to it. 1/2 at 72fps if your headset can go to 72hz I think is a really good middle ground. I am assuming that by "quality" you mean visual fidelity mostly. That will be determined by resolution mostly. Fluidity can definitely be something that people consider a part of a quality experience though. There is no single answer for everyone here, just depends on what you like and what bothers you. Some people may find the motion jitter very bothersome.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · February 3, 2025

It should ask if you want to play offline. Just do that :) I mean, it is a mod so there is always some inherit risk of using mods in online games, but I have played that and Elden Ring with this mod and didn't get banned. Just play offline. You can always put Steam in offline mode as well. Also, I don't think they can ban your Steam account, it would just be your account for DS online.

J seems sharper, no??? Is K actually better with motion? K looks like it has softer image quality which may just make imperfections less obvious :) That is not necessarily a bad thing of course. But then you have more blur further away.

Hi facing a weird issue here, So when playing Cyberpunk usually it runs 72fps. When launching afop, afop runs on low fps (~30fps) than usual (72fps). Any attempts at relaunching cyberpunk after afop results in same ~30fps. So basically launching afop somehow Dips fps for both games. Tried restarting PC to play afop first but same result. I don't think it matters that I'm on real version 16.0.0, but I'll try 16.2.1 later this week if i have time, but i just don't know why this is happening. I haven't touched any settings form previous gameplay which was around middle of January, and the only event happening in-between was new Nvidia driver installation, and installing Nvidia inspector to set dlss preset k for cyberpunk

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · February 3, 2025

Does it happen if you launch other games after Afop? If you restart your system is performance back up if you launch CP and don't launch Afop? If you put your system to sleep after launching Afop, does it then change performance back?

B

That is the way it is unfortunately. It is because they implemented the camera differently for aiming, I believe. I just used my head to aim as much as possible and used the stick less. In the Real overlay under runtime, does the button say stop VR or start VR? You are using Oculus runtime, right? Have the Meta PC app installed on your system? You don't need it running, just installed. You have the in-game display/video setting set according to the release post? Someone is working on a Starfield mod :) You can find info on it in the Flat2VR discord on one of the forum channels. Not sure how progress is going, haven't looked in a while. Praydog was working on one long long ago after it released but stopped, I guess. Not sure why, maybe he just got busy with UEVR. There was a link to it posted by someone a couple months ago or so. Not sure what state it was in or if it worked at all.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · February 2, 2025

Frame Gen doesn't work for VR in general. So, no go for these mods either. 1/3 and 1/2 are kind of like built in frame gen, they generate extra frames between real frames already to feel more fluid. If you are set to 90hz on your headset, 1/2 and 1/3 should feel more like 180fps in motion as long as you are hitting the fps cap solid at all times.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · February 2, 2025

Gamepad is recommended because some games will extend beyond your monitor. If you only have a mouse, you could decrease the game resolution really low to try and shrink the window enough to reach the overlay. In the overlay tab of the REAL overlay, there is an undock box you can check to undock the overlay and drag it around. If you have a gamepad, you can hold x or square and use the bumper buttons to move tabs left or right.

Hi Brandon, so I upgraded my rig to 5080 suprim rtx with 9800 x3d, and about to attempt to run c2077 with my meta 3, after going thru all the related posts. Are there any settings I might consider tinkering above what the realconfig sets them as? Thanks!

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · January 31, 2025

Just don't use frame gen! Actually, I am curious what happens if you try, so you could and let me know :) but it will most likely not work and just cause issues. I'm going to paste what I just wrote to someone else about settings :) As far as game settings, that is going to be subjective. Some people prefer higher settings on shadows, AO etc to make the game look overall nicer, some people prefer higher resolution and clarity. Just depends. I recommend starting at low settings and turning off screen space reflections. Then see how high you can push resolution. After that, you can decide if you want to step the res back and dial up some of the settings. I will usually find a good, optimized settings video and use that as guide for best visuals and performance. Going high or ultra on everything is often unnecessary and can hit performance while not actually improving visuals. Sometimes there are settings that just don't look good in VR, like Ray Tracing and for CP, screen space reflections. They are really grainy unless you have them way up which is really hard on performance. Again, it can get really subjective. For optimized settings videos, I like BenchmarKing. Digital Foundry is also really good, but their videos are longer and more in depth. BenchmarKing is more to the point usually. What was your previous card?

Hello, haaalp I ran the VR on Cyberpunk 2077 but can have smooth performance only at low, mushy resolution. Why is this so when i can run games like Half Life Alix Crystal clear in high res and smooth? My specs are: GTx 1060 6gb, intel 7-7700, 3,6 GHz

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · January 31, 2025

Because you are asking a lot more out of that 1060! Running a AAA flat game in VR is far more graphically intensive than a native VR title like Alyx that is incredibly well optimized and designed specifically for VR. The easiest way to compare this would be to see what your performance is like flat on the 1060. Then assume you are going to have to double that because you are now rendering for each eye instead of just once. That is not entirely how it works because the mod uses AER but it can't work miracles. It will also increase VRAM usage just running it in VR. So low settings are going to be the way you have to run. Make use of DLSS as much as you can. Honestly, you are just not going to have a great experience with that kind of hardware unless you have very low expectations. There is also Mono rendering mode if you want to give it a shot. It does not have Stereoscopic 3d so is easier on performance and still more immersive than playing on a monitor IMO. I wish I had better advice but a 1060 is just not going to give you a decent experience on anything newer. Dark Souls Remastered may be a bit of a different story. I can ask Luke for a refund for you if you want.

Value for VR doesn't seem worth it. Pretty happy with performance overall with a 4090. Really hoping people reject this launch at the high end. Not much performance gain plus the size (most people will end up having to go AIB model) and power draw. Not worth it for me. I think waiting for next gen which will hopefully be smaller and more efficient is a good idea. Unless you are on older hardware already. The 5080 is just straight Nvidia greed.

Rad · January 29, 2025

Dear Luke. I am very excited with recent updates on VR mods in terms of performance and visuals. Also, DLSS stereoscopic fix is a very useful thing that reduce haloing effect very significantly. However, it has annoying artifact - it blurs close textures when moving. For example in CP2077. When you turn around or move forward ground textures becomes blurry resulting in out of sight. When disabled everything looks fine, but haloing. Also when you step side there is no blurring by some reason, only when move forward or turn around. Could you please fix it by somehow or add intermediate variant for DLSS fix?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · January 29, 2025

I don't think there is such a thing as an intermediate variant :) Make sure you are not using a lot of sharpening as that will really bring out a lot of imperfections of both the game up close and DLSSS. There is a built-in sharpener called deblur in the REAL overlay main tab. It defaults to max, so if you are using that plus DLSS sharpening and anything else it can be way too much.

I'm trying both 90Hz and 72Hz settings in Meta Oculus, but the visuals still look the same rubbish.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · January 28, 2025

In game settings won't improve the visuals more than increasing the resolution will. What PPD are you playing at? Unfortunately, you won't be able to use DLSSS :( Definitely watch the optimized settings video linked in mine and adjust to get the highest resolution you can.

I got a little overexcited when the mod came in and I didn’t read any instructions, just installed the mod as I always have and DID start Indy in Safe mode. (Also curiously the realconfig.bat said it couldn’t modify the Indy game .exe, that part of the .bat “failed.” How can I safely start everything over from scratch and use the install instructions and this video instead?

You could try deleting the files from the game folder. The files you see in the REAL download folder along with any other files with REAL in the name. Then, run the game flat and try installing again. Make sure to unblock the zipped REAL folder. If you are on Game pass, try moving the game to your C drive.

My problem with current modding scene is just like how it depends of a lot of other mods, this performance one it seems easy to install since is just one, but one day I tried to install a graphics mods on Cyberpunk and needed to install the nexus mod manager just for install, while I just wanted a drag&drop patch.

You can drag and drop Cyberpunk mods as well. They are usually set in the correct folder structure for dropping into the main game folder. But yes, you do have to double check each one and take the time to learn where they should go. Modding can be a big hassle but it is also one of the great things about PC gaming :) If it wasn't for modders like Luke, I probably never would have upgraded my PC from the 2060 😂

Thanks for the video. I run a heavily oc'd 4090 and a 7800x3d. I have CP2077 running in VR at Ultra setting ( no RT) DLSS at Quality and target pixels at 31.5...and it's smooth and beautiful. Indy and the GC is just kicking my systems butt for some reason. The only DLSS I can use is Ultra Performance. Performance or balanced cripples my fps into the 10's and Quality iether frezes everything or crashes the game..the target pixels per degree is default at 28.0 for me. Raising this at all also cripples Performance into the 10's for me as well. Anyone else?

Same. Would love some PPD, DLSS and graphics settings for a 4090 setup
