The Impossible Quest for a Great Romance RPG

The best I can think of in terms of a game with a focus on both gameplay and romance would be The Last Sovereign. Though I could see people disagreeing with me on both sides of that. On the gameplay because it's a RPG Maker game. And on the romance because it's a harem game, and tends to start relationships with sex and develop the deeper emotional connections later.
Many people have suggested it, so it probably comes as close as we currently have.
This is what i am trying to do with my own In the Bag…
Good luck!
Anyone looking for a decent adult romance rpg, shares your pain. I think pacing is the main issue... romance, rightly so, slows the pacing down so that when you add other elements, side quests, character depth/development, you tend to run out of time. I tend to equate adding romance to an adult game like creating the extended edition of a movie. Chances are there are things that are added that core fans really enjoy, but the general audience may or may not want or enjoy as well, they just don't have the patience or stamina for it. Everyone will enjoy the 2 hour version, but the 4 hour version is a little bit of a stretch for some.
I'm happy about the level of discussion that the video created.
Romance and gameplay are at odds. If you put a score meter on a sex scene, it stops being sexy. But all is not hopeless, you just have to temper your expectations. You won't find romance in FPS or RTS, but you might find a walking simulator or a physics sandbox. Genres that cater to your curiosity and exploration. But the most obvious and natural candidate for romance is genres that incorporate talking to other characters. Those genres are of course VNs, RPGs and... uh, detective games? Huh, detective game romance seems like an untapped market. There were a couple instances of romantic fade-to-black in Paradise Killer (fantastic detective game BTW), but that's all I can think of.
I really hope it isn't impossible.
At least we are seeing more adult rpg's that aren't rpgmaker.
I feel that RPGmaker and Ren'Py are great ways to tell stories, but I would like to see more.
You are not asking for too much. You are asking for the right amount.
I hope I didn't sound too frustrated.
Yes! Can't wait to watch this one.
Hope you like it!
