But I have to imagine that at least part of it is vanity. Like some part of them must just think it's cool that when they walk by a billboard or down the supermarket isle, it's their face on the product. Which now makes me imagine a person famous enough to be on so many different categories of products that everything in their house could be branded with their face.

This was a great episode. I loved it. My cat sleeping next to me thankfully didn't hear. The "being famous without being rich"-concept always reminds me of the wild landscape that was German YouTube circa 2014. People were blowing up to the point that they were having one to three million subscribers and making 30k a month as teenagers and everyone in the whole country under the age of 18 knew them and they couldn't go outside anymore. That's a lot of money for a guy who films four minute long fun fact videos in his childhood bedroom, but not at all proportional to the amount of fame that came with it because ad money for German audiences is just lower than US audiences and sponsorships were weird still and there were many predatory companies. One time, a phone company just sent two guys to Rio de Janeiro, Moscow and New York City where they posted over three minute video each showing they were in that city and thanking the company and that was what being sponsored was. Anyway, a lot of the Youtubers fled to Madeira off the coast of Africa and got stalked there, too, by people pretending to be delivery personnel. A lot of them also got exposed for really bad stuff they did while in these completely unprecedented positions of power and influence or talked about how it fucked their psyches. Anyway, off to the main now.
