I just wanna congratulate Dave on this one. I’ve never philosophically pondered a dnd podcast quite as much as this singular episode. Basically recreated the atom bomb argument from the perspective of a time traveler and that’s so unique. Is the unknown scarier than the known outcome? Idk, WE went through the Cold War, plus the aftermath on Japan of course, but it DID end the war in the pacific, and the Cold War got humanity to the stars PLUS the medical advancements that came from NASA and other programs has saved countless lives globally. Like if I was there in the time that it happened, I probably wouldn’t press the button, but seeing the results, is the unknown better? I have no clue. So many parallels you can draw and I am nowhere near historically educated enough to answer the question other than I don’t want innocents to die. I don’t mean to get political or anything, but it’s a crazy hard question to ask and I think Dave has done such an incredible job DMing this campaign. You can easily spiral thinking about causality. ADDITIONALLY, in-universe, you have the added layer of the malignant deity that already knows the outcome of their choice forcing them to make a decision here which casts a layer of doubt onto anything they decide. Anyway holy word vomit and all but my compliments to the chef.

Dave is so good at describing scenery. when they first get teleported into the cannon. It feels like a monologue in a play he must practice it a lot

Maybe they can let it fire to make sure their future still exists, then can return to that future/present and spend time figuring out a way to prevent the tree god from dying / a way to shut down that demon-making operation in the ethereal plane. As long as The Creeping Knight still exists in their future, they can theoretically be sent back in time whenever, right? This could buy them time to find a more permanent solution

Presimably, if they don’t hit the button, Rone, Leonas and Georg won’t exist, neither would any of their families. Stonebeard’s kids would also stop existing along with his relationship. I understand them wanting to find another way but have they considered the wouldn’t get a chance to change anything if the timeline corrects over them and deletes them all?

I was really hoping after the john pork reveal that they would continue the bit of 'ashuras obviously lying' thefore she doesnt just tell the truth and entirity of them pressing the button would come down to they dont believe her and roan would have this huge moment of coming clean in order to prevent them from using the cannon and killing lots of people.

Is it just me or is the big fuckass cannon firing itself, the button is there to STOP the firing. My prediction is the party is going to want the cannon to fire and when they press the button, the opposite will happening. Resulting in cannon stopping the sequence and preventing the destruction of the demons in the past. I was hoping one of the questions would ask what the button does. THEY STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT IT DOES, only assuming.
