Donating ad money from an evil advertiser but still doing the ad is net negative imo. It isn't about saving face, it is about refusing to promote and stand behind something evil outwardly to people who trust your judgement and listen to you otherwise. Doesn't matter if the advertiser happens to not make the spend back on you, and no shot donating whatever the amount is offsets getting people into potentially and associating yourself with something evil.
It's also worth mentioning that some charities will literally turn down "tainted" or "dirty" money donations, they genuinely don't want it. Even if they don't know or care, handing a charity a stack from somewhere evil doesn't absolve supporting the unethical practices that gave them that money to begin with, which they believe you advertising it will do. For example, Polymarket and Kalshi would foam at the mouth for LS ads because it gives an air of legitimacy to them I don't think Aiden recognizes they have. Giving that amount of X thousands of dollars to some cause almost feels worse, if you don't need that money then why even take it and insult your fans and viewers to begin with. The onus should not be on the audience to know that what you're shilling is evil and rally against you, people were mad because it felt like a betrayal of stated values (specifically Atrioc having been loudly against TurboTax and then doing a read for them, even if it came up last minute). I do respect Aiden's take comes from the place of trying to take the most ethical route, it just feels like he reasoned this backwards in a way that deserves pushback.
