bit late on this but I was looking for a comment like this because I never ask about people's jobs or family life or anything like that but for a different reason... because personally I just hate when people ask ME that stuff, to me it's absolutely none of your business unless it's related to the purpose of our meeting in the first place. I guess I'll try to make an effort to reach out about it to other people more but my whole life every time someone asks me that I just get genuinely uncomfortable so I figured the right thing to do would be to not put others in such a scenario. weird lol

Is it crazy that I usually ask about interests rather than work right off the bat? I tend to find that people are more passionate about stuff they like rather than something that tends to be a chore.

I think the person to person conversations definitely have less of a "human" feel. Like how Slime talks about seeing Chat messages as being said directly to him, maybe that's an extreme version, but it feels like Covid, people have been sliding more into not understanding that people they interact with ARE people on the other side. Like the classics such as kids throwing slurs n stuff, sure, but you also get the people that just, cannot interact with another human being, it feels like they're trying to treat you like a chatbot that's not giving them the prompt they want, if you're not acting they way they expect or wish. It's even bled over to face to face interactions I've found, since Covid basic manners just, shit the bed and have only got worse as the years continue. Also seeing how casually I'll browse tiktok, see a vid of someone like, leaving a cart in a parking spot, or some other shitty but ultimately benign thing, and you'll check the comments and see their government name, last address, phone number, and the last three handles they've used. Same goes for any creator that makes a minor mistake. I guess that's just the evolution of TMZ culture combined with easier access of information, but hrrrgh it feels gross.

As one of the maybe like 2 or 3 anime’s I’ve seen and enjoyed wholeheartedly , I’d so vouch for Vinland saga. I’d even say it mimics the feeling of a written magnum opus better than any other, and the visuals are pretty cool too!
