holy shit no one realized that dave described Seth’s killer as full of scars, the size of stonebeard, and big helmet… gee wonder who that could be
Abadon?
God I freaking love the after show
That was me! That was my Summit hoodie!
Assuming you mean the short one about answering science questions where me and my friend got totally smoked
“me hands are floating away” deserves an award
Is it possible to get this episodes soundtrack? It’s amazing
i have immediately changed my mind on what my favorite episode is
I do believe Abaddon The Flayed and Ate The Unbound are Stonebeard's children since they are siblings she is a Tiefling and he is a big masked figure whose visual design resembles Stonebeard. However, I feel like Stonebeard would see Ate and feel a resemblance towards Sirius. On the other hand, Ate asked specifically about Stonebeard's children and Abaddon has an axe that rattles, and iirc has rage. The only question is why they would fight Stonebeard and why they would insult their mother. Either brainwashed/trained as child soldiers or acting/pretending.
i swear to god this campaign is making me want to join a campaign myself just so i can ask the NPCs the RIGHT QUESTIONS. i love it tho i love rone's incoherent life story i love georg's religious crisis i love leonas's generational fumbling i love stonebeard's -1 to charisma
I bit the bullet... bought a year of patreon. Wish there was another dnd podcast like this one, it's just too good
Ik it must be hard for them to remember stuff because for us it’s every week but for them recordings can be very far apart, but I just think they take bad notes lol
Omg Georg Oathbroken would be so cool if he found out about the real Horizon
I do like how no matter how tense or how important a current dialogue is, if Fernallo is being shit talked we will ALWAYS smash cut to whatever he is doing at the moment
The amount of times Rone has forgotten about his own backstory man lmao
I love how Aiden failed a persuasion check for "I hate demons" using the dice stolen from the guy banging a demon. Perfect karma
Dungeons and Daddies, Yard D&D crossover please
Crazy read if Sirius is in the past that she gives birth to Até and Abadon.
If Sirius is playing with stone beards heart, love is dead.
Is this the starwars plot
It seemed like Dave was hinting towards the demon that killed Seth was the same guy they fought when lud compelled dueled (bunch of scars, helmet) and it even looked like lud realized it but got distracted in the moment. That might be a reason why the duo knew so much about the partylike their names during the fight without interacting with them before
Chauncey Emiahpu Kaladis my beloved
The worldbuilding in this campaign is so cool!! Holy shit man
Astral Plane. My bet is that Unspoken want to invade Astral Plane and twins are going to help with that
It's episodes like these that make the wait for D&D to come out soooooo worth it
Few people knows this but dice are like tarot cards, their magic is only activated if you steal them
WARNING LONG POINTLESS POST BELOW: Just given how long the breaks between recording sessions can be, a lot of the characters' personal histories occasionally conflict with things that have been established previously. The character with the most inconsistencies seems to be Rone Callidus. Below are some of the contradictions I've noticed, along with my personal headcanon for how they might be explained. Inconsistencies Constant mixing of living and undead childhood memories. These are all from memory, so I may be misremembering some details. -There is a story about a Long Dawn Gnome being dropped into a bathtub and scaring a living Rone as a child. However, Long Dawn wouldn't have existed until after the demons were defeated. It has already been established that Rone was alive and an adult during the war, and presumably died and was resurrected sometime during it. Seth also talks as if he personally remembers the incident with the gnome and they gift him a replica to help him get over it. -In another childhood memory, Rone is in grade school in Mori and is embarrassed because his living changeling father, who works in HVAC, is doing work in the classroom. There are a few issues with this: Mori wasn't founded until after the war, so Rone shouldn't have been a living child there. By that point he should already have been undead. The story also implies that both his living father and his undead father worked in HVAC. That's possible, but it's an odd coincidence. -This may just be a cultural difference, but Seth often talks and acts as though he literally raised Rone from childhood to adulthood. Even discussions about adopting a war orphan seem to imply he originally wanted a young child, not a grown adult. Rone also has multiple names, and it is very clear that Seth gave him the name "Chauncey Imaphoos Callidus." The main contradictions always seem to come back to the same issue: either Rone is a child after he should already be an undead adult, or he is remembering a living childhood in a post-war setting where that shouldn't be possible. What I Think Is Actual Canon My understanding of the established canon is: "Rone" was his original name when he was alive. His original last name is unknown. He was a living changeling who grew up with changeling parents. He had a best friend who was eventually killed by a demon during the war, and Rone took up his blade afterward. He fought in the war as an adult. All of that seems fairly consistent with the stories and memories Rone has shared. My Headcanon Things get complicated when Rone transitions from living to undead, so here's my completely speculative, tinfoil-hat explanation. Why Do Seth and Rone Both Act Like Seth Raised Him From Childhood? My theory is that two separate events happened at the same time and created the confusion. -First, perhaps Rone died while transformed into a child. As a changeling and possible wartime scout, maybe he frequently used a child's form to avoid suspicion, move through small tunnels, or blend into civilian populations, or just to have a smaller form while hiding in the woods staking out an enemy camp. -Second, something about his death or resurrection caused severe memory loss. Maybe his resurrection was interrupted, partially failed, or maybe the trauma of his death damaged his memories. Under this theory, Rone would have been resurrected physically as a child with little or no memory of his previous life. He would then have ended up in Seth's care. Seth gave him the name "Chauncey Imaphoos Callidus" and raised him as his own son. Years later, Chauncy slowly regained memories of his former life and realized he had once been Rone. This would explain a lot: Seth genuinely remembers raising Rone from childhood. Rone genuinely remembers having a living childhood before the war. Rone frequently mixes pre-war and post-war memories because he's an unreliable narrator with fragmented memories from two different periods of his life. For example, the memory of being in grade school while his changeling HVAC-repairman father worked in the classroom may actually be a post-resurrection memory. In reality, it was Seth visiting the school, but Rone's mind subconsciously replaced Seth with his biological father. Again, this is all just my personal headcanon. At the end of the day, as long as the podcast is funny, that's what really matters. Still, I'd love to hear other people's theories if anyone has one that explains the contradictions better. Also, unless I'm forgetting something, Rone said Seth and Sera were only together for seven years. If that's true, I don't think the next 93+ years are going to go particularly well for them.
Yeah i do remember many episodes ago that roan's memories of his past life were extremely limited, to the point that he didn't even remember fighting in the war until Coquette Striga forced Roan and Stonebeard into a flashback of the war and it jogged his memory. I'm definitely under the impression that in true Changeling fashion he is constantly in a back&forth with who he is and his memories tend to get mixed and melded together as a result
The little sailors on the smoke ship might be my favorite thing I’ve ever heard on this show
I’m most excited about if Rone’s mom is the seamstress?? Or related to her?? Will they fight her?
I may have missed Dave actually confirming this, but at the start when Seth is describing the guy he fought who killed him, he mentions he was big and covered in scars. I forget his name but the Bane Voice character killed Roan's dad.
Sometimes Stonebeard reminds me of Shoresy.
So whisper thr baddie plague mother is responsible for Mori and thebstructure of how urs denizens are created
This story gained like 2 or 3 layers of complexity these past few weeks
Dave has the most patience of anyone I could think of 😂 I know DnD is supposed to be a game of total imagination where everything is possible but Stonebeard trying to tell Valathar they blow up the world and Georg relentlessly thinking Horizon is a big busy Tortle is driving me crazy 😂😂😂 still very good story telling nonetheless
Yeah the Abbadon the flayed and Até being the boy and girl of stone beard makes sense. He refers to them as “demon looking” and looks “kind of like a tiefling” and I believe we had confirmed he was having a boy and a girl. Dave also expressly warned them before this fight and let them know they can flee
when he does gyorg's dad he sounds a bit like Denzel Washington
he didn’t even use the dice #aimenisoverparty
Who was oryan (the person stonebeard was talking to at the end) and who was with him?
Previous lover of serious (or however it’s spelled) and they were talking about her
I love that whisper calls Aiden his real name like 3 times
extremely fitting that stonebeard got high and promptly forgot the name of his home kingdom 😭
the aftershow has inspired me to make a prediction: ashera the one light has corrupted and/or is holding onto selenia's soul only to be resurrected in her post-apocalyptic world of purity, which is why the tarradin couldn't resurrect her and why she offered leonas a deal for the same thing. and a random shot in the dark: atay (sp?) and abadon were stonebread’s aged up children since sirius was being hidden and made to give birth in the past? which is why they were so adept at fighting the guys? (i think it’s more likely they just lost bc they still don’t know how to play the game but.. interesting to think about?)
I don't think Stonebeard's kids need to have any special power. Can't they just be a perfect tool for Ashura The One White to display of the depravity people have reached to justify her purge?
I'm so invested in this story and characters
Not ready for it to end
Her talking about wanting to be a mother is so beautiful and tragic and I'm not quite over it.
I don't even want to speculate too much and be right, I want to be surprised with the guys. I just want to learn more and more about this world and these characters and see the ones we're following grow. So far, and I'm realising that it's been almost a year, they have really delivered on that. This show is so good!
unironically might need Dave to keep doing some recap of "what you know" after every ep, but it's also very funny to have these 4 forget everything they know at all times
it's crazy that even 46 ep in, it manages to get better and better, Dave is just the goat might be crazier that Leonis manages to fumble Whisper soooooo badly, two times
I REALLY hope Georg has his Paladin to God ascension arc
Been waiting for a juicy lore episode like this. So fun and interesting and all five guys killed it as always
You weren't lying when you said you were cooking when I commented on Aiden fumbling Whisper... holy Dave
Frénalo has become my favorite character just for how actually strong he is but he’s just slime’s punching bag (not gaorge’s)
its amazing how the boys always do and say the most absurd things to be funny but the story has still turned out to be a masterpiece
Aiden speaks to too many people to be THIS bad at conversations
The Creeping Knight got fed up waiting for the boys to ask about how Morey and Leko formed so he just sent them back cause he knew they'd never ask anyone
Craziest spelling of Mori and Lieko
“That’s what I did today” at 1:22 was hilarious
“My uncle is a rapist” crazy lead to a speech about the moral complexities of demons
I feel like if Seth was the first undead he’d be crazy famous, but I haven’t finished the episode yet
Ok here are my bets. The seamstress and whisper get blamed for the consequences of project anvil and hammer that’s why they are in prison The party will fight Abbadon and the other one at the large screw structure and that’s why they were specialized to fight this party in the future because they fought them once before. They are stated to be specifically trained in order to have stopped this party. Ashra, the one light clearly made the Terraden as a way to have a basically secret police for herself It seems to me that the boys are interpreting it as the demons are good and the angels are bad, but I genuinely think both are just bad and they’re gonna have to come to terms with that I have absolutely no idea why the children are important or significant in any way so I’m really excited to see that
Slime having a serious come to god moment with georgs dad was a lovely scene, felt really committed and felt like a really serious good moment. Love to see the serious moments occasionally sneak in
Nick not understanding his own characters history is so funny
In fairness i could see Roan himself getting a bit confused at times with having lived 2 separate lives😭gets tough to sort out memories with so much going on
What if they sent Stonebeard's children back to force Stonebeard & Co to stop Hammer & Anvil? Like if Sirius was involved or being kept at the place that is going to get nuked? On one hand it doesn't make sense because Asura would want dead demons but since it didn't work maybe she's trying to force the hand another way. Mystery! Can't wait to find out!
I actually love that Georg realized how simple it seems to be a god, he obviously couldn't really explain why he thinks it because Valathar at that point HADN'T become the creeping Knight, but he knows that somehow he did it, and Valathar is just a normal, albeit extremely powerful paladin, and Georg realizing that he is EXACTLY THAT is very fitting and I hope he seeks some sort of godly power source to use in the climax The boys are very silly sometimes but it's really cool when sparks of "oh shit I'm playing D&D right now, I can do shit!" hit them in the face and they build off that.
Sankofa is evil, I feel it. He knows too much and is familiar with Ashera
Sankofa is essentially just the MOST Terra Din guy in the Terra Din, he was Mr. Hammer&Anvil, he represents, i think, just the unknowing corruption of the Terra Din. So I don't think he's like an antagonist, if he knew and believed that Ashera was part of this evil plot, he'd probably be on the side of The CrossRoads, but the gang is unsurprisingly incapable of convincing ANYBODY of importance that the god herself is the true corrupt force during this demon apocalypse
Bnut is 100% using the line, "I met our son in the future, we have to get together"
rone's backstory details are messier than stonebeard after hitting the mcnexus while high
M
Thoughts, not a lot on this one: -the Dave self glaze in the middle of the ep was top tier, shoutout b dave walters you are a great storyteller -i dont understand why ashera would bring orion and sirrius back to the past too -bringing the kids if not to age them, create resentment and train to fight stonebeard makes sense -i like if the kids were named ironhand and goldfoot as nicknames or something and if they called him stonedad (if allied) or stonedead (if enemies) -sera = seraphim was cool -a lot of weed this episode and father son moments plus stonebeard and his work dad sankofa -the expansion of gods is interesting, maybe Benut is Horizon. This would make Georg = Percy Jackson which is pretty hilarious -this also made me wonder if Benut has other kids Georg doesnt know of, which would be interesting -shoutout Chauncey Imapuss Calladus -something tells me Valathar gets the trees remaining power and becomes a God / he fits the conditions because he has dedicated followers
"bringing the kids if not to age them, create resentment and train to fight stonebeard makes sense" fuck they're totally the two demons the boys were fighting a few episodes ago huh
god dammit leonas
So the demons are trying to raise stonebeards kids in the past to prepare them to fight him in the present
i was thinking the same
I was hoping for a Back To The Future circumstance, but it’s fine! This is so awesome man. What a good story Dave’s made
“I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it.”
Dude I deadass thought that when stonebeard called Orion it was an Orion in the past that just got a random call and had no idea who was calling him
do you remember if stonebeard specifically said he was calling orion? if so, incredible snipe LOL
I love how they seem to miss EVERY piece of lore and foreshadowing about the seamstress. Can't wait for the reveal lol
“She loves to sew…” “she wants to be a seamstress someday…” no reaction
This is my favorite form of dnd to write and play, narrative first, bending some rules here and there.
Yeah; within reason I'll always come down on the side of the Rule of Cool. The rules exist to facilitate the story, not the other way around. - BDW
To me daves campaign is becoming fear and hunger with old gods and new gods kind of and I’m down for it
I'd so be down for it to turn into the Old Gods vs the New Gods. Rone and Georg are both allied with New Gods while Stonebeard and Leonas are both blessed by an Old God, it would be really interesting. And they said Ashara is possibly the oldest of the Gods and she's bringing the demons.
Has it been explicitly said that Rones mom is the seamstress? Cause I feel like all of that was laid out in this episode
i dont think so but how do you come to that conclusion? Is it "just" the fact that she looks like him?
I wonder if they sent Stonebeards children to the past just for them to grow into powerful warriors or if they're actually gonna occupy some high up positions.
They were Barricade and Minx and died in Ep 3
best podcast to do yardwork to
Does roan not look undead? Like would dr sarean not like realize that an undead man is there who she didnt create?
I assume he’s doin a little bit of shapeshifting in my head
I love when the boys play random npcs with the same cockney accent.
I HEARD THAT DAVE!!! I’ve been asking for y’all to release the notebooks! I would 100% pay to see what abominations Ludwig has drawn
Just a shoutout to Dave for this amazing cohesive storyline it's soo good 😭
We need to see him do more things, everything I’ve seen him do has been amazing
The world building this episode went crazy
David's "let you borrow her" was so underrated
I hope Dave does some BTS stuff after this campaign. I’d love some insight into how he makes his world and characters and balancing humour with a serious story. Also a Dave/Yard module would go crazy hard.
I second this!
Today?
:( BUT tree??? Wasn’t ashura In a tree that connected hell to heaven ???? Imprisoned a god ?
I think Slime is the only person who actually remembers Rone's backstory lol
Yeah he’s really the only one that remembers that Seth is not Rone’s biological dad
We’ve heard nothing about gorgs dad in 667 and horizon doesn’t exist yet in 565… there’s no fucking way they are gonna do that right?
Especially with the conversation about becoming a god too
such a fun few episodes so excited for this one!
Tableslop rpg time 🤑
wahoo!
My favourite show is on
Love it when they’re already fighting from the top
inspired to run my first campaign!
