Game still not working after updates?
People are updating, cleaning out, even fully deleting their Mods folder and starting fresh yet their game still refuses to cooperate.
The common thread? Their Sims 4 folders are synced to OneDrive, and it’s sabotaging every fix they try!
I cannot say this any more clearly:
DO NOT ALLOW ONEDRIVE ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR MODS FOLDER.
Here’s what’s happening:
Changes You Make? OneDrive Reverts Them.
You update mods, fix settings, clean up saves—and OneDrive quietly rolls those changes back. It’s like patching a leak only to have the broken pipe reinstalled.
Mod Conflicts That Should Be Gone
Even after replacing or even removing broken mods, the game keeps loading old versions. Why? Because OneDrive is syncing ghost files behind the scenes.
Lost Progress, Vanishing Saves, Reset Settings
If your Sims 4 folder is cloud-synced, the game can’t reliably read or write files. You’re stuck in a loop of frustration—and no amount of mod fixing will solve it.
How to Unsync the Electronic Arts Folder from OneDrive (Windows 11)
This method removes Electronic Arts from OneDrive sync while keeping OneDrive active for everything else in your Documents folder.
BEFORE FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS - BACK UP YOUR FILES TO A PLACE OUTSIDE OF ONE DRIVE CONTROL!
Use Carl’s Guide: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/help/save.php
Or Clean Launcher for full backups with a few clicks:
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open OneDrive Settings
Click the OneDrive cloud icon in your system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen).
If it’s hidden, click the up arrow to reveal more icons.
Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the OneDrive window.
Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
Step 2: Choose Folders to Sync
In the OneDrive settings window, go to the Sync and backup tab.
Click Manage backup.
Tick the slider next to Documents (will change from Backed up to Not backed up). This is fine. Do not panic.
In the OneDrive settings window, go to the Account tab.
Click the Choose folders button next to your OneDrive path.
At the top check the box for Make all files available.
In the list below, uncheck the box next to Electronic Arts.
Click OK to confirm.
This stops OneDrive from syncing the Electronic Arts folder, but leaves everything else untouched.
Step 3: Verify the Folder Is Unsynced
Open File Explorer and navigate to your OneDrive folder.
Confirm that Electronic Arts is no longer listed there.
Check your local Documents folder (C:\Users\\Documents) to ensure the folder still exists and is accessible.
Why This Works
OneDrive allows selective sync for folders. By unchecking Electronic Arts, you prevent it from syncing without affecting the rest of your Documents folder or disabling OneDrive entirely.
