This video made me so happy. Your eyes are tracking just fine, and you're blinking is in sync too. Your speech patterns seem fine, no slurring, enunciation is about the same as before. It sounds like your motor functions are good as well, which is excellent. Umm... I don't mean to sound so... clinical. My mom had what they call a 'warning stroke' a few years back so I made myself very familiar with things to look out for. Honestly, I feel this odd need to get you some ice cream for your throat and a pillow or bear or another blanket. Seems downright parental. I remember the breathing tube. It did a number on my throat too, though not as bad as the... other tube. I'm guessing you had one since your surgery was so long. Anyway, still pulling for your full recovery. Stay calm

As the surgery was taking longer than the upper estimated time, the hours past that limit were dark. Directly after the good news, that was a new type of being tired and still unable to sleep. My sleep rhythm still is a mess, but hey, I was never so happy for anyone else. I may need some steroids to get back to normal.

What I mean is I'd expected more wierdness on the side of your head where Brian had been hanging out, but the side of your head looks basically normal. Also kind of amazed at how little of your hair they shaved - a friend of mine had a similar procedure done (hemangioblastoma pressing on his ear canal) and they shaved about a third of his head. Clearly they wanted you to be photo ready! I'm looking forward to a bunch of new videos from you well into the future after you've had plenty of time to heal up.

That's fantastic! it's remarkable how your face/eyes just a few days after a major operation don't visibly show more of an impact. yeah, sometimes silly post-it note type reminders to be patient etc. can be useful.. lol.. but, you're entitled to be a bit pissy after such an operation so everyone can deal with it better if they expect it! continue to heal! and, take your time!! best!

I had breathing and feeding tubes for about a month and I could barely talk at first and coughed a lot. Do they put that thickening stuff in your drinks? They did in mine, supposedly to make sure I didn’t choke on it (though it seems like that would make it more likely!) It was awful. It might actually have been the worst part of recovery once I was in rehab. Mine wasn’t in Hawaii though! (From the background it looks like you’re there!) I also didn’t have Internet access for a while. Come to think of it, maybe that was the worst part! (21st Century First World problems.) You do look much better just since your last pic. Rest up and get well soon!

Be careful about how hard you push. imagine a shitty robotic football player just having received a concussion, it takes a while before they are cleared to play again. Find a pacing chart like those used by people with brain injuries. Use it as a guideline. Yes I want you back doing shittastic stuff soon, but be good to yourself. Take the time.

Great to see you're doing better. That's one kick-ass scar, I'm jealous. I'm assuming the steroids you're on are not the ball-shrinking kind (anabolic) but the anti-inflammatory kind (catabolic). But, if they do put you on anabolics, you should take the opportunity to start lifting weights. They'll help you get real buff. Also, did they tell you want kind of tumor it was (fibroma, glioma, or neuroma)? Did they let you keep it? Doctors never let me keep the stuff they take out of me, but maybe you can get special celebrity treatment. Anyway, keep up the good spirits, you'll be up and building even shittier robots in no time!

So glad to hear that you're recovering at such a fast pace! Even if it feels like a very long road and too slow, a Simone at 80% is still a cool person. Your speech is a bit slower, but that's probably from the tiredness and your body spending so much work recovering. And definitely eat what you can! You look worn out (probably because you are!), so your body needs those nutrients. Consider it a good thing that your body is working so hard on the recovery - it if wasn't trying to heal up, that would be a worry. As a roboticist, it must be fascinating to consider the huge amount of healing and rebuilding that your body is doing at such a small scale, and the way it commands resources from all over the body to help in that effort. It is incredible how hard the body will fight to survive and stay healthy, it is a beautifully orchestrated machine. There's a doctor YouTuber named ChubbyEmu who has some great videos explaining how different organs and processes interact in medical conditions (like a boy who ate 40 laxative brownies, or a grandmother who had a stroke, or a woman who drank 3 gallons of water in an hour); you'd probably love the way he outlines and explains everything.

I'm so relieved to see that the surgery went well and that you are getting better! That was one AWESOME scar on your head! It'll probably fade to nothing, but if it doesn't vanish completely you can always point to it and say "you should see the other guy" whenever someone gives you a hard time. It is weird how everyone reacts differently to steroids. After some surgery they pumped me full of the stuff and I just I had this weird mixture of being really upbeat and annoyed at how slowly other people think. I kinda liked being on steroids. :)
