Trope Talk: Chosen Ones!

Hi! I'm a total noob writer (see also: hack) and I was wondering if a potential deconstruction of the "chosen one" narrative would be to frame it this way: a character was not "chosen" by some person, event, or entity beyond their control, but rather the character is a "chosen one" simply because they themselves CHOSE to take initiative. And destiny goes, "Fine, you'll do." Has this been done before? Did anything I just cay make any sense? Also, HUGE FAN! Always glad to see you guys in action! GO TEAM R&B!
A random homeless lady pointed to me in a crowd and told me that I was going to get her some McDonalds' and I'm having an existential crisis as to whether I can really go through with fulfilling her request. Does that mean I'm the Chosen One?
