[Release Post] Lakewatch Tower is Now Available!

As your boat drifts through the dark waters, the ruined tower rises from the small island ahead like a broken tooth of stone. Its upper walls are cracked and open to the sky, where a massive nest of branches clings to the remains of the battlements. The air smells of wet moss, old wood, and stagnant water, and every sound seems swallowed by the lake around you. A half-rotten doorway gapes at the base of the tower, its shattered timbers hanging loose, as if someone - or something - forced their way inside long ago. Somewhere within, the old structure groans softly in the wind, inviting you to step closer.

Hey everyone!

Lakewatch Tower is finally here - and yes, this is the map I was teasing/threatening you with earlier. :D

As I mentioned in my previous post about Irish castles, this one is my fantasy recreation of a real-world location: Cloughoughter Castle in Ireland.
That earlier post is here

I have to say, creating this map was an absolute joy. There’s something really satisfying about slowly rebuilding a real place inside a fantasy battlemap, especially when the whole scene starts to come together piece by piece. I’m honestly very proud of how realistic the tower itself turned out - but I think I’m even more proud of the POV views. Those shots really capture the feeling I wanted: an old, lonely tower standing on a small island, surrounded by dark water, mist, trees, and mystery.

For the tower interior, I tried to keep the atmosphere of a long-abandoned ruin. It’s broken, damp, partially collapsed, and clearly forgotten… but you can still get a sense of what might have happened here decades ago.

The release includes the main island battlemap, but also interior maps showing different levels of the tower.

The ground floor works almost like a ruined entrance hall. The old gate has rotted away from years of moisture - or maybe someone broke it open long ago. Under a pile of rotten barrels, there’s also a hidden hatch, which could be a perfect hook for expanding the location into a flooded cellar, an underwater cave, or something much worse beneath the lake.

The next level can easily serve as an old magical or alchemical laboratory. The floor creaks, the planks are rotten, and honestly, it might collapse at any moment. As a Dungeon Master, this could be a fun place to give your players access to strange potions, unstable experiments, or useful things that are definitely not entirely safe.

And the top level? Well… whatever used to be there is no longer recognizable. Rain, wind, time, and neglect have turned it into a ruin. Now, a roc - or some other large flying creature - has built its nest among the remains of the old beams.

I’m releasing this map a little earlier than usual, and as I already announced, it’s available now on my website:

EDIT: The Foundry modules are also there! And the maps are available on Moulinette too!

Also, from some recent Discord conversations, I realized that not everyone knows about the website yet, so here’s a gentle reminder:

I warmly encourage you to check it out - more and more of my content is available there, and I’m slowly building it into the main home for Dransky’s Battlemaps.

As always, thank you so much to all my Patrons and followers for your support. It really means a lot, and it lets me keep creating these weird, atmospheric, overgrown, slightly haunted places for your games. ❤️

Cheers!
