[Master Post] New Map Pack – Borderwatch Bridge
The party arrives at Borderwatch Bridge, the only crossing between two rival kingdoms. A sturdy stone structure stretches across the river, guarded by an outpost manned by kingdom soldiers in worn but disciplined gear. Ahead, a line of merchant wagons waits patiently—each driver stepping forward to pay the toll and present papers. The guards eye every traveler with suspicion, their hands never far from sword hilts. It’s clear that crossing this bridge isn’t just about coin—it’s about trust, allegiance, and what you might be hiding in your cart.
Hi everyone!
This map was meant to be a quick and simple one. Just a nice, clean bridge crossing a river. But as it often goes... it turned into one of the biggest challenges I've had in Unreal Engine 5 so far.
Most of the time I spent wrangling water and river flow—trying to make it look natural and believable. And while I wouldn’t call it a full success, I think I managed a decent halfway point. The thing is, the end of the month started creeping up fast, and I realized there was a real risk of missing a release altogether. That just didn’t sit right with me. You’ve been supporting my work, and it wouldn’t feel fair to let the month slip by without giving you something new.
So I made a call—I gave myself a little break and touched up the water in post. Thanks to that, the stream now has some really nice visual details like foamy swirls and currents flowing around the rocks. It might be a bit of a cheat, but hey, the result looks great.
As for the map itself—narratively, I imagined this bridge as a border outpost between two kingdoms. It’s perfect for scenarios involving stealthy crossings, border inspections, or an all-out battle for control of the bridge. There’s a ton of potential story hooks here, and I can’t wait to hear how you end up using it.
Today I’m releasing the standalone map packs, and Foundry modules are coming right after. As usual, for Patrons, there will be a separate posts where I'll share the access to the maps.
As always—huge thanks to all of you supporting me here on Patreon. And if you’re just following along, thank you too for being here and checking out my work.
Cheers!
