AMA | the dumpling video

New question- why are hand pies not dumplings? They are made with raw dough. And why are matzo balls dumplings? Matzo is a cooked dough (but the egg is raw ...)

For the ikea-dumpling, was it ever considered to use the traditional swedish dumpling called kroppkaka (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kroppkaka) made from a potato dough with meat filling? (Regional verion, other versions like palt and kams with smaller differences also exist!) I acknowledge that they look questionable but they taste nice, promise!

I am starting to believe that Sabrina and Taha baits Melissa into certain topics and it is Melissa’s mission to prove them wrong! With that, questions: 1. As a multi-speaker, why it feels English speakers (or maybe people in North America specifically?) have the need for things to be encapsulated to fit a really specific way? For example, there is a CBC short documentary related to patty. 2. What is wrong about having X food for a specific meal? For example, farmers in Latin America tend to have heavy meals to break their fast, as they would be out to tend the fields. See, the Colombian bandeja paisa. 3. Melissa, was there any consideration for a dumpling made from (corn) masa? 4. Can we get Melissa an iPad? Considering the cost of her (new) MacBook I was dreading it might fall during her rant!

When coming up with the dough for the pho soup dumpling, did Melissa look at gluten free base recipes to contend with the glutinous and regular rice flour? I'm so curious. I'm gluten intolerant and a lover of dumplings!

This may be off topic, but why does breakfast food have to be "breakfasty"? I eat left over pasta frequently for breakfast. Am I missing nutrition by not having eggs, for example? Why can't "regular" dumplings be eaten at breakfast time?

OK, I have a question. Are tamales dumplings? I mean, they are steamed raw dough with fillings, so if we granted tamales the tittle of dumplings then you have a lot more of options since we eat tamales a lot for breakfast and there are also sweet tamales so you could have dessert dumplings.

how did you (melissa) amass such large amounts of knowledge about cooking, and get so good at it? did you just pick up tips and tricks and patterns from watching so many cooking shows or did you really just sit down and kinda "study" it?
