Maybe I am not made for this Era

Just a few thoughts from a simple and small artist.

Video games now feel flat and superficial to me. I have not really played actual games in years anymore, unlike when I was younger and growing up. Everything is polished to perfection, focused on realism, and now AI filters are supposed to enhance all of it even more. PC components keep getting more expensive too, which also stops you from wanting to invest in bigger upgrades. And for what exactly, when there are barely any games left that even feel worth playing anymore. At least not for me.

Everything somehow feels empty now, whether it is anime or series. Because you do not even really want to support streaming services anymore when so much behind them is going wrong too. Voice actors are being pushed into signing contracts that allow their voices to be stolen. At least here. And then every program people know starts getting AI features added into it. Even Blender. Even there you now have collaborations and add ons built around it.

And I no longer know how I am supposed to tell real things apart from artificial ones. Instagram and other platforms label actual handmade work as AI generated just because an AI system was used to detect AI, even though it obviously does not work reliably at all. I do not want my art to be marked as AI when it is not. Ads are full of AI nonstop. You try to ignore it, push it away, mute it, block it, but nothing works anymore.

I had to delete my old Pinterest account because all of my pictures and creations were labeled as AI generated, and there was nothing I could do about it.

And the irony of all of this is that we live in a world where so much has happened. I have experienced so much. I have already spent the last ten years trying to avoid fake people in real life. And then there was the internet, a place where maybe you could escape somehow through games, through series, through creativity, through art. But now even that no longer feels safe. I do not want things that feel hollow and empty. I look at them and I feel nothing anymore. Why? Because they do not feel real. Everything feels like one giant artificial mass blending together.

I sit here in front of my desktop, looking at my own work, and I think to myself that I somehow need to protect it. It still brings me joy. But thinking about whether I should even continue posting things anymore, risking that the authenticity of what I create is no longer recognized because people are becoming used to fake and artificial things, that is the danger of this era.

And as an artist who has spent over twenty years creating, whether through drawing, design, or creative processes in general, it is becoming harder and harder. Even with Blender you cannot be sure anymore. You look at a Blender render and you no longer know how much of it was truly made by the creator themselves, how much came from prompts, AI tools, or automated add ons. Everyone has their own opinions about this, but I am not talking about opinions right now. I am talking about a feeling. And my feeling when I see all these polished creations that all look alike and carry the exact same energy is that they feel flat and superficial to me.

And I simply cannot work like this anymore. It is becoming unbearable for me. No matter how real I am or how much I genuinely learn and create myself, the truth is that people may no longer be able to recognize that authenticity. And I do not know if I should keep posting the things that come from my heart, the things I poured effort and love into, when others might not even be able to tell anymore. I can still feel it myself, but people are losing that sense. Humans get used to things very quickly, and in many ways we are simple creatures of habit. If people become accustomed to artificiality, then how are they supposed to still distinguish what is real and what is not? Eventually the fake becomes accepted as real, and the things that once truly were real disappear.

I have been thinking about this a lot, and it feels like a part of who I always was is slowly fading away. That feeling of dissolving keeps getting stronger. The world once felt colorful. A long time ago, the world felt full of color and life. Now everything just feels gray and repetitive.

What do you think?

This text is not an attack against anyone, and I am not judging anyone who wants to create things in their own way. This is simply a summary of how I feel and what my situation feels like as someone who is still trying to give their best in the way they originally learned. But at the same time, I feel overwhelmed from every direction by things that simply do not make me feel anything anymore, if you understand what I mean.

I just thought I would write down some of my thoughts. Maybe someone can relate to them, or maybe not. But this is simply my own emotional world, not an attack against anyone. This is just genuinely how I feel, and it has been this way for quite a while now. Everyone can do whatever they want, but I cannot force myself to feel something that I simply do not feel. And because of that, I somehow needed to put these emotions into words, whatever words I still have for them. I do not know.

Maybe I am also just in a dark place right now, one that makes everything seem more hopeless than it really is. But even if I cannot fully see beyond it at the moment, I still know what I am feeling right now, and honestly, it does not feel very good.

I agree with everything you said - and well said, by the way. Life has become too fast, there's no time to just create, or reflect. The ads bother me the most, they are everywhere. You can't watch a show, go on your fav social media .. nothing. There's ads. I despise them all, frankly. I feel like AI is going to do far more damage than anything. Data Centers are a great example of this. I digress, and won't get into that on your page lol But we just have to take a moment to touch grass, so to speak, nature is the best remedy. Love your creations, and no matter what you decide, take care of YOU.

Don’t be upset ❤️ Your work is wonderful. Pinterest also tags all of my work as AI, even though I create everything myself. I only use AI for text and translation. So try not to pay attention to it — the most important thing is that you have people who appreciate your effort and love you ❤️

It's all so sad

I can totally understand that. I personally only use AI rarely myself, but when I do, it is usually for making a few images or maybe some templates for thumbnails or similar things. So it can be fun to use for certain small things or to refine something here and there. But I am not really a creator myself, and for me it is sometimes simply easier to make something quickly instead of learning an entire process from scratch, to be fair. But at the same time, I deeply appreciate and respect everyone who creates things by hand and through their own skill and effort. People who still authentically pursue their craft, value their own work, and pour so much energy, passion, and love into it. Just because some people find it too difficult or do not see the point in learning something themselves and therefore use AI to create things too, I think we still need to differentiate between these situations. Are we supporting AI simply because we cannot do anything ourselves or are unwilling to learn, while pushing aside the people who were always there creating beautiful things for us? Or do we still appreciate the people who have been there for years, sharing things made with genuine passion, soul, and love? Just because they could theoretically be replaced, even though I do not think they truly can be. AI can create visually beautiful things, yes, but I still prefer the real work of a human over something generated entirely by AI.

So I do believe a tool can remain a tool, especially for people who are not very skilled themselves. I count myself among those people. But if you truly have passion for something, like you or many others do, I still think you should always try your best and continue learning. And above all, we should never forget people like you and others who were there first, the ones who have always worked with passion and love to create beautiful animations, poses, artwork, and other creations. That is why I can really empathize with what you are saying. And yeah, I also think the amount of AI slop flooding the internet right now is getting out of control and that something should be done about it. Even I constantly get spammed with strange AI advertisements that are basically just money making machines. And honestly, that is the saddest part. A lot of people are using AI purely to make fast money. Fast work, fast profit. That misuse of these tools and AI programs is what feels truly bad to me, because people are now using them to quickly take money from others, enrich themselves, or build something bigger without genuine care behind it. And I think that is the point where it stops being just a tool. That is where it starts becoming exploitative, and I do not think it should be like that. So yeah, I really do understand your feelings and I am genuinely with you on this. 💚

all I know is that when im exposed to artificial for a while i feel sick and disconnected from my body. the only way to feel better is time in nature away from electronics or distractions, even reading is a distraction. to sit in silence and listen to yourself. i understand your fears, i have the same. as a lifelong creative its definitely getting scarier. AI is not going anywhere but genuine art will always be the preference. i can only have faith true feelings will always connect more or my life is pointless. a horrible thought. i always loved cyberpunk genre lol now maybe its getting to being real maybe i dont so much now or we have to adapt somehow.

I think my biggest fear is, I see a future where real human beings constantly have to prove that they are still real humans. And that the things they create are real too. That there might come a time where nobody can truly tell anymore who is human and who is a machine or AI. And then you exist on the internet and people no longer recognize you as a human being. And as an artist, musician, filmmaker, producer, writer, or whatever you are, you eventually end up in a position where you constantly have to prove yourself. That you are real, that you are human, and that what you create is genuine. That is the future I am afraid of. That one day it will not even be humans deciding whether you are seen as human anymore, but AI systems deciding it instead. And honestly, it already feels like that process has started. And that is truly frightening, the idea that someday a machine or an AI could determine how I am perceived, and that I would have to justify my humanity to that very AI. 😣

I totally get your point… I make animations with The Sims and each video takes me days to finish, while some people can generate multiple AI videos in a single day. The craziest part is that people actually pay for that stuff…

I understand your point. And it would not even really be a problem if it was only being used as a helpful tool, the way it was originally intended. But the way things look right now, AI is no longer just there to be a tool. It is being used to replace things/Humans. And that in almost every aspect of life. And that is so much worse than simply being a program or a tool. 😮‍💨

I think I understand how you feel... though from a slightly different perspective. I'm not a creator. I always wanted to be, but I never had the perseverance because others were better and I was never good enough. It's even worse now because that feeling has morphed into "what's the point of starting anything when an AI can do it faster and better than me?" It's bad. It got even worse when I discovered I couldn't find a job because my skill set is exactly what an AI does (with my ADHD, I'm a jack of all trades, a master of none). So I understand that feeling, and the only thing that comes to mind is to send a BIG virtual hug 🫂😭

That is exactly it. For some people, their jobs are at risk because of this. Or for many of them. I am just someone who tries not to support these kinds of things, but you can see that it is becoming almost impossible to escape from it anymore. And that is a very oppressive feeling. I mean, if it was not being used everywhere and you still had the chance to simply ignore it, that would be one thing, but it is constantly being pushed onto you everywhere. I am really sorry for you. That must be a terrible feeling. Probably just as terrible as mine. Thank you very much for your comment. 🩷

I know what you mean. it feels like AI has taken over everything and i hate it. it's times like these where i personally take a step back to collect myself and my thoughts. Take the time you need for a break. I genuinely like your content and it would be sad to see you go, but the world needs creators like you.

Right now it is simply everywhere, whether in advertisements, anime, games, art, just everywhere you look you get flooded with it. And I think that is what affects me the most. Not because individual people choose their own path, but because the moment I open an app or go on the internet, I immediately feel overwhelmed by all of it. And that is extremely exhausting right now. It does something to your mind when you are not used to these things and honestly do not even want to get used to them. Thank you very much for your comment. It makes me feel a little lighter. 🩷
