Toddlers Learn to Read Skill
NOW REQUIRES LOT51's CORE MOD FOUND -->HERE<--
Phew, so I have had this mod sitting around for a while and finally went in game and got pictures so I could share this with you all. There are a couple of mods out there about learning to read but none of them did it how I wanted, so I made my own.
A new skill, called Reading Skill, is available for your toddlers now! Also, the in game Imagination Skill is now locked until your toddlers max out the reading skill. There are five levels for this skill since it is a toddler skill and all it consists of is reading books!
First toddlers will only be able to look at the book, but after level 4 reading skill is reached they will be able to read books!
Next is the wabbit tablet, where toddlers can gain imagination skill by drawing. This option is locked until toddlers reach max reading skill level 5!
Once maxed, they will be able to gain imagination skill and draw with the llama on their tablet again!
Popup messages for each level are below!
Custom text is included in English only for now for the imagination skill and the reading skill.
If you have any suggestions about this mod, feel free to leave me a comment or DM me! <3
This mod works with patch 1.98 and was made a few patches ago but updated to work with recent patches. So tldr; patch 1.98 version is below. If you are not patched to 1.98 it might work still but I can only guarantee it will work with patch 1.98. :)
No other mods are needed for this mod to work!
Updated 12/05/2024 to remove locked imagination skill due to popular poll demand.
Updated 12/06/2024 to fix imagination skill being locked still, it is now actually unlocked! Sorry about that. xD On patch 1.111.

Updated 10/06/2025: Some minor coding tweaks and added in the ability to read books on the Wabbit Tablet for Toddlers.

Update 10/10/2025: Made the Read Toddler Books interaction last much much longer, so you can sit them down and forget they're reading lol. But seriously, it was bugging me how quick they were finishing their time on the tablet, so I extended it, stupidly so.
Update 11/06/2025 for patch 1.119 with minor tuning updates.
Updated 02/10/2026 for patch 1.121!

Can I add more of the E xml tag for Toddler till Elder, for more Sims to be able to read? I was trying to make a reading skill, but it isn't easy, It's my first time modding, I never modded before.
There’s a mod like that here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/61316227?utm_campaign=postshare_fan
Hey! I just got this mod today and I saw that you updated it to not have imagination locked, but my toddler is still not gaining the imagination skill from just playing with toys
Hmm interesting, let me look into it, thanks for the feedback!
Hi, just wanted to say I love this mod. I was just wondering if it's possible to not have the imagination skill locked behind the completion of the reading skill? Toddlers, in reality, excel at imaginative play well before they learn their letters
I imagine you made this requirement so that toddlers can't read books with a high imagination skill. It just feels odd during gameplay that my toddler can't gain imagination skill while playing with their toys unless they learn how to read
