Next Update
TLDR: The next update is nearly ready. The handling/tyres have been completely overhauled for the better. No more name-changer required. No set release date/timeframe. Will be posting career mode videos here and there on yt that give status updates.
Over two years since I said the final update is coming soon, I can finally give a status update on the final update.
To explain my sudden disappearance. I got burnt out from working on the mod too much. I got burnt out from F1 games in general. During the two years since I last posted, I've been very slowly chipping away at the mod and I've gotten it to a point where I'm happy to start putting out progress updates in the form of career mode style videos. At the start of each video I'll list the specific changes made after the last race. I don't plan to release them on any set schedule, however on writing this post I have a couple backlogged and ready to go.
The version of the mod used in the linked video is another world compared to the version available right now. For one thing, the cars are actually driveable, and fun to drive. I've completely re-done the handling, it's basically the default 2020 handling with a layer of paint on it that says 2009. That doesn't mean they handle like the 2020 cars though as most of the feeling comes from the tyres, which have also been re-built for a more arcade feel. You can actually put your foot down and go without having to use max traction control.
This time around I have structured the handling/tyres around having fun playing the game rather than having a realistic experience. The AI no longer have op straight line speed, they are fun to race against and will aim to give you a run for your money every time. The tyres give you a raw feel of the road rather than the car feeling like it's hovering. It's a lot easier to sense when you're going to spin. You can drive over kerbs without dying or flying into the sky. The tyre wear has been improved to aim for around 3-4 stop races on 50% race distance, whilst still giving you that raw feel of the road even at high wear.
The tedious name-changer is no longer a requirement for the mod now too thanks to user ManTazzo who has figured out a way to use the language files to change any text visible in game, from driver names to descriptions about settings, and far more. I plan to make use of that to make off-track more immersive through little details here and there.
I'm not going to say anything on when I may release the new version. As I said before I am chipping away at it here and there so it is just a matter of time.
